A whopping 1.2 million people follow the ‘Weird Facts’ Instagram page and they can’t get enough of the tantalizing trivia it shares on their social media feeds. We’ve collected some of the most interesting history and science facts shared by the page for you to enjoy as well, dear Readers, so have a scroll down and upvote the ones that you found interesting and surprising.

The ‘Weird Facts’ Instagram project eventually grew so large that its founder decided to branch out and create a trivia learning app. There are over 900 random, interesting, and genuine facts that you can learn and then wow your friends and family over dinner with. Some trivia might sound strange, true, but it’s all been double and triple-checked by ‘Weird Facts.’
Bored Panda has analyzed the topics of media literacy and how we can distinguish between true and false facts in quite a lot of detail before. Last week, I spoke to Steven Wooding, who is a member of the Institute of Physics in the United Kingdom, who elaborated on what kind of mindset a true, curious, impartial scientist ought to have.
"Scientists have to be curious about how the world works and persistent in their work, as it may take years for it to pay off. Creativity to imagine what might be possible and attention to detail to gain knowledge are also very important," Steven told Bored Panda during an interview.
"We have to be open-minded to new facts and let data guide the way, rather than just what we think. On the other hand, we should also be critical of data. One experiment doesn’t make a fact. A fact comes from experiments that can be repeated and verified many times over."
According to the researcher, the advent of internet newsfeeds and platforms like TikTok and Twitter has shortened our attention spans. As a result, we tend to have a lower tolerance for long-form content that requires more focus and energy from us.
This is wholesome for the father and daughter. But it's sad on so many levels. Not only is this discrimination against single and gay parents, but they are also treating disabled children with so much disregard. I'm happy for the father, but there is so much to ponder about here.
My husband and I are full body donors, his reaction to being told this by me, who wants an old mangy body? I told him, whatever they need, what are you going to do with it.

I am a registered organ donor for years already and a recently learned, that since September this year, Switzerland has silently changed it's policy: You now need to register if you do NOT want your organs donated - YAAAYY!
In the US, the only downside I see to organ donations is that sometimes the donors are charged for life support, organ removal, extended stay, etc resulting in $8,000-$50,000 hospital bills (over and above the cost to try to save the donor's life originally). Some of the stories I've read may be old and things are changed, but some are from just a few years ago.

One human body can save 8 lives through organ donation. I had a double lung transplant almost 3 years ago (Never smoked and this was my FIRST surgery in 62 years). I am proof that donating your organs saves lives. PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK THE BOX ON YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE. Don't take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here! In the UK you are now automatically put on the register and have to opt OUT not in.
Yup, organ donor myself, don't drink, do drugs or smoke. Don't know why people don't become donors as if they are going to need all their insides when they die. =:P

Wow - didnt expect that ending. Food for thought...become an organ donor....YOU could save or greatly improve dozens and dozens of lives from just checking that box (at least in my state - not sure if all states are the same) on your drivers license renewal!! You won't need them - don't let them go to waste is how I feel!
His name is Chiquinho Scarpa, he's Brazilian. I remember when he did that, gossip tv shows went on and on about what he was doing...
Although this is a true story (the name of the millionaire is Chiquinho Scarpa), this story didn't got a good reaction. He is known for just being a party playboy, and for making of scandals and telling lies just to get attention. In 70s he has lied about having an affair with Princess Caroline of Monaco. After being sued, he confess he had never meet her. Everyone still thinks he seriously intended to bury his car, just to get attention, and then, this organ donation publicity was invented just after the negative reaction. The whole story had really zero impact on organ donation publicity over here. He has done nothing, although millionaire, to improve the world or made any charity in his life.
Gosh, I thought that he probably was serious about burying his car and was criticized about it, so he just made that up to get out of bad publicity. Nice to see my pessimistic views have some merit lol

Because I have a chronic disease that may damage my organs an unknown amount, I opted out. My organs would actually be detrimental to anyone who received them. It's a noble cause, but not everyone can do this. So I donate blood, when my health is good and my doctor approves. It's the best I can do.
Thanks for giving blood. I do, as well, every 2 months. Donors now are informed where their blood is sent.

In The Netherlands we had a TV quiz show where the winner would get a (needed) kidney transplant. It turned out to be a fake show to rise awareness for the need of donor organs. The viewers only found out when the show was almost finished. Imagine the outrage They had a lot of publicity.
My Grandpop donated his whole body to science and I plan to do the same. Remove any viable organs that can save or vastly improve lives, use the rest of me for research, what the hell do I care, I'd have no use for it anymore. Then, a year later, my next of kin will get a letter about what my remains were used for and my ashes of what's left.
In a conversation with my cousin who was in Hospice, I mentioned that I was going to donate my body to science. She asked me if they would take hers, and I said yes. That very day, she changed her directives. She was 82. Her mind was good, but her body gave up. She died 2 days later. RIP Rita Rose. Her body was sent to Duke Medical School.

As someone who is on dialysis and will hopefully soon be able to get a transplant, this is wonderful.
True, but the organ donor system is severely flawed, an organ transplant is excessively expensive, Doctors or whomever choose the recipient (people have been on waiting list for clise to a decade) and if you're "too old" well, bye bye grannies. AAA a and , if you bury a car it will ruin- perhaps even poison- the land. Humans ate organic, no harm to the land
So I have a question about this. I have heard (and i dont know if there is any truth to this, thats why I am asking) that, while its not legal, if someone is an organ donor and is in a serious accident, sometimes staff will make a calculatiom about the odds/cost of saving them verus the number of people who could be saved if there organs could be harvested after death. Is there any truth to this or just an urban legend?

I'm willing to donate my organs and stuff but only as long as theyre actually used in a person. I don't wanna be in a medical class. also i want to keep my eyes, be stitchdd back up and be cremated. im a bit neurotic about this stuff haah
I've been a registered donor as long as I've had my license, and nothing in the world could change my mind. If donating functioning limbs to amputees was a thing, I'd sign up to do that, too. Take whatever you need, and my family can find me a smaller urn.
Sad thing is that I have never heard of him and lots of people probably haven't either only people like Elon musk get care which is disgusting
Anyone remember that game show in the Netherlands, where the candidates would, supposedly, play for a kidney for them to receive? When the expected outcry came, they revealed they weren't about to let people play silly games for their life ... but, has anything changed? Whereever it is opt-in, there's a lack of organ donations, and while any opt-out approach has severely better numbers, it still doesn't solve all the problems attached. And, that guy is right, of course.

Burial doesn't make any sense either. You put a fn ornate casket in the ground with a dead husk/shell, just to take up space and waste resources. Cremation should be mandatory, and if you want a "cemetery" it should be a skyscraper with just a spot in the wall. It should be encouraged to spread the ashes to the wind, though.

So very true.Its sad people Don t want their loved one "cut up" but they are during an autopsy and then buried in the earth for their life saving organs to rot. They do not want to " give " their organs away because they feel like they would be giving " THEM" away but in reality when you are cremated your burning them to ashes you get back in a Ziploc bag that are usually let go in a memory that they have held onto and you gave them away anyway. Neither choice saved anyone's life all it did was make the living feel better about themselves People need to be educated seriously educated. I think it should be a mandatory class/ lecture taught by a knowledgeable guest speaker for every HS student

Sign that organ donor box or tell a family member your wishes if it is ever an issue ...the best thing I ever saw was a recipient who attended the wedding of his deceased ( a young accident victim) donors parents,via the bride's sister.It meant so much to them .I somehow doubt that Bentley's gonna fit ..he needs to dig a little more! Excellent choice! I have donated my body to be used anyway the upcoming doctors can use it. People always need livers, hearts, corneas, you know all the organs that someone could use.
So what? Lots of people have been buried in their favorite cars. "Sports car burial" is something that's available in many places. If it's his car, he has a right to do anything he wants to with it. If he wanted to, he'd have the legal right to put a couple dozen bullet holes in it and then set it on fire, and as long as that was done on his own property, it would be legal.
Someone buried a Land Rover, someone buried an old Ferrari (dont know year or model) and someone buried old tanks.
See, rich people are great, and they always care about philanthropic causes.

Meanwhile, entertainment and pop culture expert Mike Sington from Hollywood explained to me that there’s a broad range of red flags we have to look out for that might indicate that a fact or a source might be unreliable.
"Red flags to watch out for that a claim may be fake: it's outlandish, it's too good to be true, you haven't seen the claim anywhere else, you've never heard the source, the source isn't reputable, you can't find two other sources making the same claim, your gut tells you, ‘this can't be true,'" Mike told shared with Bored Panda.
"The rise of social media has decreased the reliability of information because misinformation can spread so quickly before it can be corrected," the expert said that one basic thing we can do to check the reliability of a fact is… to start off with a simple and humble Google search. We should be on the lookout for additional sourcing and evidence. If we can’t find anything, we should remain skeptical.
"Do this and think before reposting or you may be contributing to the problem. Amplification doesn’t make a claim true or accurate," he said.

Mike said that sources like Associated Press, Reuters, and The New York Times can be considered to be trustworthy. "They employ fact-checkers and editors that ensure the information they post is correct. They’re basically doing the research and homework for you. There are literally too many online sources to list that can’t be trusted and should be avoided. Anyone can basically post anything they want… proceed with caution," he told Bored Panda.
"Our attention spans have been reduced to mere seconds at a time because that’s the way information and entertainment is fed to us now. People get tiny bite-sized bits of news by scrolling a Twitter feed, they entertain themselves by scrolling quickly through Instagram and TikTok. It’s creating a habit that doesn’t have to be," he said.

I read a novel once which opens with a pony getting stuck in the sand at the beach. I read about how our attentionspan has kind of shortened, and this morning on childrens tv channel I noticed the the "shows" are mostly less than 5 minutes long. Yesterday I was in school with 6 year olds. They were watching a movie for children and the teacher stopped it, and asked did they wanted a break or view the rest. They unanimously asked to view on without any break. It makes me think.
