I completely agree. I grew up without a mum and it really impacted me, especially on Mother’s Day when everybody made stuff for their mum.

Most Kinders and Schools (at least in Australia) know how difficult this can be and either do a combined 'special people' event or include any female/male family member or friend in the invite.

Perhaps you're looking at it wrong. The world doesn't have to yield to our choices, instead, we should consider the impact of our decisions. Barring being widowed, being a single parent is a choice. Much as is childbirth, and the partner your choose. And yes, last I checked, every child in existence has a mom and dad, that's the way biology works.

Ok but most kids either have Grandparents, Godparents, whatever the case may be its unfair to all of thise kids that just because on the off chance that there are a few kids who don't have that they have to miss out on a nice breakfast woth a family member. Sometimes you have to except that you're not the majority and the world revilves around the majority most of the time.

The vast majority of perpetrators of child sexual abuse are people already known to the victim, e.g. family friends. The incidents of strangers picking up children to abuse are much, much rarer. So I would worry much more about a suspect uncle or neighbor than a random man who volunteered his time to help out with a school event.

Wow! A lot of men here downplaying the fear of violence from men. Here's a better response to this: "It deeply saddens me that we live in a world where women have to think about this daily. As a man, what can I do to make the world a safer place for women?" See? Not too hard.

If 500 men just showed up within 24 hours, that doesn't leave any time for a background check, and implies they weren't even keeping track of who was coming much less vetting applicants! Sketchy AF.

I guess people don’t understand that women can be pedophiles and abusers too. Check your facts and data. People need to keep an eye out out for anyone that seems suspicious. We need to stop being single minded when it comes to our babies. Why automatically think men are abusers? There is a huge population of very good men who are fathers. We can have a good image and example of men and fathers while also keeping an eye out for those who are looking to cause harm.

Unfortunately I have to agree. It's potentially a really nice thing, but my first thought was still that they have no idea who these men are or what their background is. Even if only one out of 600 is a predator, that's one too many. They are experts at what they do and kids without dads are particularly vulnerable. I literally just took a class about child abuse so it's all pretty fresh in my mind.

You are not wrong! Unfortunately this is very possible! I think that the most important thing is to stop these events that exclude kids that don't have both parents

I was kind of thinking the same thing. School volunteers are supposed to go through background checks. And how do they know if I'm ok with my kid interacting with some random stranger.

That’s where my mind went as well, especially since it was for a middle school (so 11-14 year olds). I’d have been super uncomfortable having breakfast with some adult man I didn’t know even without wondering if he was there for nefarious reasons.

YES ... hundreds of these men have a lot to be commended for ... but I GUARANTEE you (based on STATISTICS alone!) ... there are several amongst them ... who are likely NOT there because of the goodness of their hearts!

YOU might have had a positive experience, but it's pure 1diocy for you to suggest this was a safe thing to expose children to. Inviting strange men into an intimate setting, with vulnerable young children, asking them to play the role of a faux parent to a child who is most likely struggling NOT having a father! Ugh! It opens up a WHOLE world of risk. Imagine if one of these men, JUST ONE!!! 'groomed' a child and somehow managed to obtain information that lead to knowing the whereabouts of that child, his/her home, a local park they frequent, the SCHOOL gate! and approached that child one day. The "stranger danger" concept is already out the window, because the child thinks he's a nice man! ONE CHILD, is STILL ... ONE CHILD!!!! good lord! People like YOU are why kids are not safe, because you can't muster up enough intelligence to suspect that SOME of these men MIGHT just NOT be Father Christmas! Ugh ... Most of those kids need a male role model. This shows them that you don't have to be a drug dealer or in prison.

yes ... so true ... because ALL of them are kind hearted ... and NOT ONE of them actually came to groom a vulnerable child who misses having a dad ... I live in Australia ... in an affluent suburb. I was recently privy to a birdseye view of the houses in my area where there was a child sex offender ... 1 in 15 houses. So no ... I don't think all 600 of these men were 'kind hearted' ...
