Weddings are one thing. But the juicy wedding anecdotes that get passed around from guests in real life is another. From fussy bridezillas to nightmarish decor, hilarious invitations, accidents, "what da heck was dat" moments, and even full-blown fights… Some people live for the nuptial gossip.
And the chances are they belong to this quirky online community that deliberately targets some shame-worthy weddings. Captioned "let’s shame those weddings," the subreddit r/weddingshaming is the online home for roasting wedding themes, brides, grooms, wedding parties, in-laws, outlaws, guests, Uncle Bob, vendors, and more. “You name it, we shame it!” states the community’s description.
Created in 2018, the controversial subreddit now has 151k members who love digging through anything wedding-related. So let’s take a look at what they dug up and shamed down below.

Just Hope There Isn’t A Third...
The world of wedding shaming offers real-life drama combined with sassiness and a fair share of roasting, all in the comfort of a virtual environment. Groups like the “That’s it, I’m wedding shaming” Facebook group, which has 80.6k members, and the r/weddingshaming subreddit with 153k members have become somewhat of a phenomenon in the past 2 years. It turns out there’s something universally irresistible about ripping apart someone’s supposed best day of their lives.
Luna, the moderator from Australia at “That’s it, I’m wedding shaming,” told Wired that “There’s something about weddings, whether you’re invited or not, that just brings out the worst in people.” She suggested that this is precisely what gives the group a feel similar to reality TV shows.
This online shaming trend became a hit back in August 2018 when a post from a group shamed a bride for asking her guests to pay about $1,500 towards her wedding. The story went viral after it was shared by model and social media star Chrissy Teigen.

But many people are not so positive about this new trend, claiming that “beneath those silly nuptial stories lies an online playground of hate.”
Bored Panda reached out to Darlene Lancer, clinical psychologist and the author of “Codependency for Dummies” and “Conquering Shame and Codependency.” Darlene said that wedding haters and shamers are not members of a “hate group,” according to the FBI.
She explained: “hate groups” direct their hatred against a particular race, religion, gender, ethnic group, or people of a particular sexual orientation. The FBI investigates these hate groups to protect democracy and individual liberty.” In that sense, wedding shamers are not one of them.

Darlene further explained that “Ironically, public displays of extravagant and ostentatious weddings may also be fueled by shame where the emphasis is on impressing other people of the family’s wealth and status.” Such behavior can be a compensation for not feeling adequate or sufficiently respected.
Shaming others, the clinical psychologist suggests, is a way of protesting and ridding themselves of shame people have inside, which is often hidden and unconscious.
“It may be fueled by anger and envy because of the widening discrepancy between classes of haves and have-nots. Aggression and envy are also defenses to shame,” Darlene concluded.

I love puppies too! I love them so much that I WOULD NOT TREAT THEM SO BADLY! Personally I would say to guests that they are welcome to bring their dogs and I would provide food water and facilities for them including somewhere for them to sleep but never would I tie them to tables as decorations!

This is a terrible idea of incorporating puppies into the decor, and what I would've done, is go to the animal shelter and ask them If they want to bring some puppies there for people to adopt possibly. what this girl did is not okay, though.

I actually can think of a way to MAKE THIS a good idea! If you REALLY love dogs that much and are a GOOD PERSON, have your local shelter come and set up somewhere outta the way, but still there, and see if anyone wants to adopt, AND give the shelter some of your WEDDING MONEY as a donation! Animals are not decor! However, if you are truly a dog lover you could invite (with a sizable donation for their time) the local humane society to your wedding and have them set up their mobile adoption unit to the side and ask for a way for guests to be able to pet and play with the adoptables. Whos knows, maybe some lonely pup will actually get a home from this and your wedding would do some good.

I would NEVER use puppies or any other animal for decor!!! But....I have used men for such a thing. They are going to need longer than a 2 foot lead, they will get chatty so if you want less talky you need to keep the beer coming or tummy rubs. Best part is that they are house trained!!!

Way to make a young probably teens step child feel even more embarrassed about their braces than they already were. I would never want someone who would be so oblivious to be my child's step-anything. Thank God my son's stepmum is a gem, she always treats him as one of her own, as I tell my boy, parental decisions are made between the three of us (myself, his father and his stepmum). Sometimes I feel a lot of people are putting way too much emphasis on all the external display and rules on how a wedding should be. In the end the only thing that it is all about is love.... Not the amount of people, how big your cake is or your car. It's about the love between 2 people nothing more and certainly nothing less...

So, if you were going to have a big wedding that happens to fall during quarantine, go ahead and get married, even if by Zoom. Then later, once the threat has passed, have the ceremony and party. Who cares if it’s not exactly your real wedding day—-it’s still a celebration of your marriage!

These posts range from questionable taste on the part of the bride and groom (relatively harmless) through the inconsiderate (restrictive rules and/or demands for expensive gifts) to the truly dangerous. I'd attend the first, reconsider the second and definitely skip the third.

I have a story! My mothers friend (lets call her Sarah) was planning on getting married to her fiance (James). Now, Sarah has been through her fair share of grief, one instance being that her niece (katie), who she was REALLY close with, had died of cancer earlier that year. To make matters worse, Sarah is a nurse and had been caring for Jane during most of the time Jane was in the hospital. But during Jane's funeral, the song "Ave Maria" played, so Sarah obviously has some bad memories and emotions attached to the song. Now, you must know that the mother of the groom-to-be (MIL for short) is VERY controlling and traditional. So she insisted that "Ave Maria" needs to be played as the bride is walking down the aisle. Sarah was very stern and chose a different song to be played (as she should, because it's her wedding, not MILs). Well MIL literally went out of her way and told the organist to play Ave Maria. The organist obviously refused, so MIL BRIBED THE ORGANIST with hundreds of $...

We have a family in our neighbourhood (18 members) who come to every family wedding with the whole crew, eat graciously and as a wedding gift, give us an envelope full of 10 Rupees ( $0.14 ). I mean if you want to be stingy, just dont give anything, why such meagre sum as if we are broke beyond means?

These posts range from questionable taste on the part of the bride and groom (relatively harmless) through the inconsiderate (restrictive rules and/or demands for expensive gifts) to the truly dangerous. I'd attend the first, reconsider the second and definitely skip the third.

My spouse and I had a nice wedding with good friends and family in attendance. didn't ask for anything - got nice gifts anyway. What people could afford, or not. Didn't care - just wanted everyone who was there to be there. Had an open bar - BIG HIT! Great food, family style. And lots of FUN! We just celebrated 25 years this summer. How long are these lovely ladies (🙄) and that crazy gun-toting maniac and his blushing bride going to be together?

I have a story! My mothers friend (lets call her Sarah) was planning on getting married to her fiance (James). Now, Sarah has been through her fair share of grief, one instance being that her niece (katie), who she was REALLY close with, had died of cancer earlier that year. To make matters worse, Sarah is a nurse and had been caring for Jane during most of the time Jane was in the hospital. But during Jane's funeral, the song "Ave Maria" played, so Sarah obviously has some bad memories and emotions attached to the song. Now, you must know that the mother of the groom-to-be (MIL for short) is VERY controlling and traditional. So she insisted that "Ave Maria" needs to be played as the bride is walking down the aisle. Sarah was very stern and chose a different song to be played (as she should, because it's her wedding, not MILs). Well MIL literally went out of her way and told the organist to play Ave Maria. The organist obviously refused, so MIL BRIBED THE ORGANIST with hundreds of $...

Some of the women in white strike me as attention-seekers, but I've read articles about some women who made an honest mistake and didn't realize wearing white to a wedding that isn't yours is a faux pas.

My fiancé and I are planning our wedding for a year from now, but if it's not save, we'll get married with our parents and a best man/maid of honor and have a party when it's safe.
