Tucked away at 101 West Washington Street in Hagerstown Maryland is a children’s museum, Discovery Station. There are two floors, on the 1st floor is Discoverytown, it has a vet’s office, a dentist’s office, a doctor’s office, a fire station, and a sensory station (where kids can dress up and play.). There is a Lego Robotics exhibit where kids can make robots out of legos, also they’re two remotely controlled robots the kids can use. Behind the gift shop is a mock-up of the martian surface and NASA exhibit where kids can dress up as astronauts.

Behind the lego robotics exhibit is a sustainability exhibit which teaches kids about the environment. There is a Japanese exhibit, a dinosaur exhibit, and a transportation exhibit. The transportation exhibit has a 15 foot replicia of the R.M.S. Titanic

The replicia actually floats and took 10 years to build. The transportation exhibit also has a plane (which kids can get in and pretend to fly), a racetrack (which kids can race matchbox cars on), and a construction room (where kids can use wooden blocks to build things.).

The 2nd floor has 4 civil war exhibits, a baseball exhibit (with a local flavor)

like Cal Ripken, a agriculutural exhibit, a reading room, an art studio (where kids can paint, draw and make things. Whatever they make they can keep and take with them), and a café (which can be booked for birthday parties). A new exhibit is about coral reefs (see picture)

Admission is a reasonable $7 for adults, $6 for 6yrs. and up, $5 for seniors. Family memberships are $60 for a family of 4 (which can also be used at 380 ASTC member museums). The Washington County Chamber of Commerce 2018 non-profit of the year. As a volunteer (that’s me with Cal Ripken) there, I am proud to pass on my experiences and knowledge to the next generation, who come through their doors. Stop by Tuesday thru Saturday 10am-4pm.
