I Love Restoring Old Photographs, And This Time I Decided To Restore 23 Vintage Mugshots Of Famous People
I love restoring old photographs (that are in black and white) and bringing new life into them. The pictures I restored today are mugshots. If you didn't know, here's a definition of mugshot: a photograph of usually a person's head and especially face, specifically, a police photograph of a suspect's face or profile.
I'd like to share with you some of the vintage mugshots of celebrities that I restored. What do you think, Pandas? Tell me which one is your favorite!
If you want to see more photos restored please comment and let me know what you would like to see next.

David Bowie, New York, 1976
Uhh...he was a nonce? But I separate the artist from the art so yeah he fascinated me as a child and his face was pure art. Almost like it was carved.
Load More Replies...I love David Bowie! This has to be one of my favorite mugshot pictures and I don't know why.
I look worse in my graduation photo than David Bowie in his mugshot.
He had heterochromia, so they weren't both blue, but one was. He may be wearing colored contacts, though.
Load More Replies...He didn't wear colored contacts, nor he didn't have heterochromia. He's other eye was green, and another was blue. That was because of fighting over a girl when he was young. He's other eye pupil was paralysed too. He was the most handsome and charismatic man in the world. Rest in peace. ❤
Martin Luther King Jr., Alabama, 1956
Arrested for boycotting racist bus system "On 21 February 1956 King was indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury for his boycott of the Montgomery City Lines, Inc. According to the State of Alabama, King and 89 others violated a 1921 statute that outlawed boycotts against businesses."
Ahh this is why I read the above comment wrong about dandelion smuggling. 😂 Your username, my cat kissing my face and me being half asleep. I was thinking "WTF was dandelion smuggling?" If dandelion smuggling was a thing I could run a farm here and be loaded.
Load More Replies...We should all strive to be like this wonderful, compassionate, amazing man. Do not fight hate with hate, we need to work on creating a world of kindness and knowledge, not hate and ignorance.
Look at his eyes: he’s already composing the letter he’s about to write.
Rosa Parks, 1955
There was a 15 year old girl, named Claudette Colvin, who did the exact same thing 9 months before Rosa Parks did it. She was arrested but for a multitude of reasons she wasn’t recognized for it. I suggest googling her because her story is interesting as it also involves a pregnant black woman who refused to move along with Claudette!
Johnny Cash, 1965
I can see Jeremy Renner totally playing him. They have a similar visual vibe to them.
Joaquin phoenix's portrayal in "Walk the line" was quite good tho.
Load More Replies...Hugh Jackman Plus Jeremy Renner plus a little bit of Robert Pattinson
He always looked like someone you wanted to know...someone you could talk to...probably at the bar....
My mother, who lives in italy and has terrible musical taste, for some reason loves "The Man in Black". She discovered him when she came to visit me in the 90s and I basically sent her a copy of all my CDs of him, Willie Nelson and especially The Highwaymen. He is the only musical bridge between us. Remarkable considering I am a trained musician with a very eclectic taste and she is a Italian housewife that listen to the equivalent of Top 40 Italian polka.
He was awesome. I have so many memories listening to him with my dad when I was younger.
Uuuh I know he's great but I hate his music. I don't know why but it gives me a stomache. I remember watching Barnyard and I nearly got sick. My partner plays it in the car sometimes to annoy me because his songs make me cranky. Nothing else has this affect on me. Even thinking about it turns my stomach.
Cher, California, 1959
Yep, apparently she was driving a borrowed car without a license!
Load More Replies...This isn't her mug shot. She claims it was a school photo and they put that info under it.
According to The Dave up above, she was driving around without a license.
Load More Replies...I didn't believe this one until I looked up childhood pics she posted herself. It's legit!
Jane Fonda, Ohio, 1970
Only brainwashed americans are complaining. The rest of the world knows the truth.
and some of us Americans who don't believe the bullsh*t propaganda know too! I love her!
Load More Replies...They thought she had drugs on her. She had a prescription. (I could be wrong, she's been arrested A LOT)
Load More Replies...Why? Because she protested a senseless war that accomplished nothing but so many pointless deaths? You won't find a single Vietnam vet that would agree with that war, and if protesting a war and wanting peace means you're a "traitor", well then I hate to tell you, the country is full of them
Load More Replies...Stupid statement. Any time someone protests, or marches, or stands up for human rights in any way is done "all for looks". Why? Because it gets looks, of course. It gets attention, and that's the whole point. This statement she made here was heard loud and clear by, not only other anti-war protesters, but also women. Her arrests were 100 percent unfounded, and unnecessary, and people should be angry about it. So yes, it's "all for looks"
Load More Replies...This became a symbol for women who won't back down. She was arrested on false charges because of her protests against Vietnam. She slipped out of her handcuffs for this, sending a message that was heard throughout. It may be "a bit much" in today's standards, but not then. Then, it was a powerful message
Load More Replies...Frank Sinatra, New Jersey, 1938
He was arrested for "Seduction", which meant coercing a woman to sleep with you under promise of marriage. But it was later revealed the woman was in fact already married. So he was arrested again for adultery.
I didn't know Frank had those scars on his jawline!! Wonder what happened to him.
According to PBS: "The forceps used during Sinatra's birth caused severe scarring to his left cheek, neck and ear that ran from the corner of his mouth to his jawline, which was exacerbated by cystic acne as an adolescent, thus earning him the nickname “Scarface.” As an adult, Sinatra wore makeup to hide the scars"
Load More Replies...They didn't call him "old Blue Eyes", because of his green eyes. Good job though. Growing up in Italy, I knew at least a dozen guys with the same generic facial features. Heck, I had a friend that could have been his brother, and I married his ex-girlfriend. 30 years later we are still together, but I wonder where he is. Handsome fellow.
"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a singer".
eyes are the wrong colour, but other than that, its a fantastic restoration
He worked as a male prositute and his clients were usually married women. I saw that in a documentary. Before he became famous never did understand the hype with him he was a d**k
Jimi Hendrix, Canada
They found drugs in his luggage at the Toronto airport. But he was aquitted.
Load More Replies...Vladimir Lenin, Siberia, 1895
Oh, that's what it is! I had no idea what it was or why it was there.
Load More Replies...Was he arrested for assaulting a prawn?! Wtf is going on in that photo?!
Al Pacino, Rhode Island, 1961
He was 20 and got arrested with 2 friends under suspicion of attempted robbery: "The cops had gotten suspicious when the vehicle that the three actors were traveling in circled the block multiple times. When the officers approached the car, they found the three men inside wearing black masks and gloves. Upon further inspection, the cops also found a loaded .38 caliber pistol in the backseat. Calcagni, Cohen, and Pacino were charged with possession of a concealed weapon and eventually taken to jail. Bail ended up being set at $2,000, but no one could afford it, so Pacino and his pals spent three days behind bars. During questioning, Pacino — who was described by the arresting officer as being “very helpful” — explained that they pistol in the trunk was actually a prop, which he and his friends needed for an acting job. Criminal charges were eventually dropped."
Why am I laughing at this? Not condoning it bit lmfao.
Load More Replies...Malcolm X, Massachusetts, 1946
Back in the late 19th and early 20th century, yes, they did actually. Because EVERYONE wore a hat so it was worth knowing what people looked like wearing them!
Load More Replies...Mick Jagger, England, 1967
Arrested for drug possesion with Keith Richards after the police raided Keith`s house.
You don't say? This must have been before "Say NO to drugs". They wouldn’t have "dared" otherwise. Surely.
Load More Replies...Pablo Escobar, Columbia, 1977
Pablo Escobar was from COLOMBIA, not COLUMBIA. Please. descarga-6...dbe10f.png
Exactly. I’m from there, so thank you for speaking up.
Load More Replies...That smile is one of true humor. He thinks he will always get away with his crimes.
Elvis Presley, Colorado, 1970
Not a mugshot : http://www.feelnumb.com/2015/09/19/this-is-not-an-elvis-presley-mugshot/
Always have and always will be an Elvis fan!!!! Dancing to the jailhouse rock🎶🎵
Another of my favorite songs but I love all of his songs!!!!
Load More Replies...Steve Mcqueen, Alaska
So high on coke, couldn't distinguish between his nose and his ear.
Load More Replies...I'm surprised the authorities taking the photos allow the sitters to put their hands up; this pic, and Jane Fonda pic above.
Al Capone, Florida, 1930
Man, this dude made his wife crash, then shot her in the head......He dose have a nice smile though.
Benito Mussolini, Switzerland, 1903
"Benedetto Mussolini". Benito was his nickname. Benedetto means 'blessed'. Ain't that ironic?
Probably arrested for socialist activities? He was a radical socialist in his youth
Larry King, Florida, 1971
Arrested for passing bad cheques: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/celebrity/television/larry-king
"Dade County, Florida!" "Yes, hi Larry, first time caller here..." Also I think everyone gets arrested in Dade County at some point.
Charles Ponzi, 1920
These should have a brief description of the charges. It would be MUCH more interesting!
Look up Ponzi scheme. It's named after this guy!
Load More Replies...Charles Ponzi: Forgery (Canada), mail fraud (U.S. federal), larceny (state). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Ponzi
My ex-wife was convicted and found guilty of using a Ponzi scheme entitled "Women Helping Women" when it was 4 women helping themselves to thousands of dollars from unsuspecting single moms and women by using a rigged lottery system. She got off lightly. They all did, if I remember. My ex's "take" as she was quoted by a reporter saying, was $30,000. Disgusting. They should have given them all 5 years hard labor, lol.
Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegal, 1928
So it turns out that in the early part of the 20th century when men always wore hats, the police would photograph the suspect once with the hat and once without because it makes them look very different. It was thought that it would enable witnesses to identify him even if he had on a hat.
Load More Replies...Patty Hearst, California, 1975
Patty Hearst was from a very wealthy publishing magnate family and kidnapped as a teenager in 1974 by a homegrown American terrorist group the Symbionese Liberation army, ostensibly to get a ransom. She ended up committing crimes while held by them. When she was apprehended, she avoided a hefty sentence by proving she was brainwashed and abused by the group, developing a sort of Stockholm syndrome (where you indentify with your oppressors out of survival instinct).
Load More Replies...John Dillinger, 1934
He killed a policeman during a heist 😂 (and he is incarcerated because the killed a policeman, not because of the grand robbery!) (also don’t downvote me because you think I’m against cops, I’m not.)
James “Whitey” Bulger, California, 1959
Understanding the historical significance and context behind these mugshots can provide fascinating insights into the stories of the people involved.
If you're interested in learning about the context behind famous mugshots, consider exploring an intriguing collection of well-known mugshots and the stories that accompany them.
My guess is they have found the new colorized filter in Photoshop.
Load More Replies...These aren't very good if they are done by hand. It looks like they're run through an AI programme.
I would have liked this post more if there were a brief description of the (alleged) crime each person committed.
I would love to know what each was charged with. Guess it's time to do some research.
