Little is know about Nina Leen, the Russian born photographer that emigrated to the United States, and whose photos graced over 50 Life magazine covers. What is known is that she studied painting in Berlin, and that she also lived in Italy and Switzerland--but when she died in 1995, there wasn't even anybody who knew her exact age.
Despite the mystery surrounding her, Leen produced some memorable work, including an ongoing series featuring her adopted stray dog, Lucky, and a photo that was picked by Carl Sagan to fly aboard the Voyager space probe. She also has a keen eye for photographing youth, and this Bored Panda list features some of her best work. Which one is your favourite?

I am in the striped blouse, back row. These were my classmates, and one of the girls won a makeover. Grace Kelly asked her friend NL to photograph us together. Leen was not jist a photographer, but a model herself.

Fascinating. Because there are no captions or names I was speculating that these might have been late 1940s Eileen Ford models. Thanks for putting it in context Marilyn..

Left to right, the Dees Triplets: Katha, Christina, and Megan, in 1956. Photographed several times over the years for LIFE magazine by Nina Leen, there are lots of photos of them out there. They each got their hair cut differently on this day, as they started trying to look less alike. It didn't last. Here they are in 1964, when they were known as the "Sassoon Cut Triplets". Some great pics and I love the fashion, but 'Models 1940 - 1950' would be a better title than 'Women 1940-1950' since these are fashion magazine shoots.

Fantastic pictures from a very talented artist. Loved the fashion from the 40's and 50's especially that all the fashion's had to have the perfect accessories and shoes.Absolutely lovely models.
