How is that? A junkie shots up drugs, robs their family and endangers society and im the bad guy for not praising them for quitting. Let's say i was a bad person who held up gas stations and broke into houses but quit. You guys gonna praise me, congratulate me for not being a piece of s**t anymore? Why do the same for junkies?

As for my morals, I work 6days a week, volunteer at the humane society, pay my bills, take care of my children financially and spiritually and have never been arrested or done heroin. But now I'm the bad guy?

I am an asshole and im okay with that. Why do I need help for that? You guys are proving my point, junkies get more respect for quitting doing stupid stuff the people that never started in the first place.

C Ronz: I don't think that you are an asshole. You need to realize that most people love a comeback story - someone who is so down on their luck, that they've hit rock bottom, and they rise from the ashes. We don't know all the circumstances that send addicts down a path of self-destruction. Unfortunately, some people don't have great support systems, and may not be as strong as you. I'm glad that you are a responsible person. It would be great if no one had demons inside them, but life is hardly fair. So, having blathered on enough, it wouldn't hurt to help out a fellow human with a few words of encouragement.

I guess that since they come up from such a low point, they need more encouragements than you and me...I do get your point though. I might have made many bad decisions in my life, but my family would have talked me out of them. Having strong support through family and friends can make all the difference in the world. Some people lived in a cesspool of a very dysfunctional family and took the wrong path, because they were never taught better. To those that managed to emerge from this, congratulations!! Don't you agree? Congrats to you too for choosing the right path!

I see it less as putting addicts on a pedestal, but more as cheering them on with encouragement as they realize that they've made mistakes and are making amends and trying to turn their lives around. The word here is redemption. I also don't believe in slagging people off before I know the origin of the anger. LOL So, if I have shot myself in the foot, then so be it.

Mr. C Ronz, you probably have done nothing in your life worth mentioning. This man has done one of the most difficult things anyone can do and that is to come out the better side of an addiction. He didn’t ask to become addicted, it’s a disease. Go blow your negative crap some place else.

You are asking a question - I'm going to give you an answer. Obviously, it is very good if people don't start doing drugs or start smoking. The problem is that addiction is not just a mental illusion that anyone can quit with a "ah, no, thank you, I'll be sober from now on". Especially heavy drugs like heroin or opioids create an actual dependency on the drugs - you get literally sick when they aren't in you. So quitting them makes you feel shitty, and most people will stand on a tightrope of falling off the sober-wagon for the rest of their lives. In regards to that, it IS indeed harder to quit drugs than not doing them in the first place, and it's a constant struggle. Of course it is laudable if a person is responsible enough to not take drugs in the first place, but especially with opioids but also with heroin, many don't go out saying "Oh, let's get high - I'll take some morphine and be high as a kite". (cont) Many people, especially in the US, get addicted because they are in pain due to an injury and get subscribed highly addictive drugs but, the longer the pain continues and the less money they have (you're probably aware of the problematic health-insurance-situation in the USA) the more likely they are to seek relief from another drug that is freely available. Like Heroin. And sometimes your life is just so shitty that you would take anything to get away, even hard drugs, and later you can't get off again easily. It's much, much easier to NOT start something than to quit, and the more people appreciate others going through that struggle to get off the drugs, the better for everyone because as you said: less drug-users is always good. I've never started smoking because I know I would probably not be able to stop. I admire everyone who quits smoking, because I had it easy: I just never started and my body isn't dependent on nicotine.

I feel like you're making excuses for em. You're told and shown what heroin does to a person your whole life. When u get pain killers you know they're addictive. The doctors make it very clear the dangers of the pills. Yet you make a decision to move on to heroin. Thats all on you, its youre choice to do heroin, nobody made you put that needle in your arm

Now you made me angry. My son fought everyday of his 33 years deling with a catastropic illness, the doctors prescribed drugs. You have no idea what he went through and endured to the point I'm grateful he didn't turn to street drugs. Get off your own Holy high horse you judgmental ungrateful twit , he worked three jobs at one time until he was hired at UPS. Paid his bills and helped others and he NEVER looked down on anyone and did help a lot of people. You made me cry bringing up the sad memories. God keeps a record and doesn't need self rightous man to bring judgement on anyone.

I understand that, and I understand its not easy to quit. I'm saying we shouldn't praise em for not doing something they should have never done in the 1st place. It's like being grateful you only broke your arm but at least it wasn't amputated and when it heals people will be glad you learned your lesson and won't do it again.

BIG difference between comming on strong and being a single minded bully.After thinking about it I realized I was wrong about you. A few years ago I went through a time when I was angry, my Mom helped me by explaining that there are some things we can change, some that canno't be changed so we do everything in our power as if it were our responsibility until we realize we can't , then we get angry because it's bigger than us. Ithink you got a raw deal being the one trying to save them while others just watch and walk away. I don't think you are mad at them for doing it so much as leaving you to hold everyhing together that they left damaged. You are the hero for working hard and providing for your family ,it's hurtful to see them as heros because they finally decided to take your helping hand and yet they are heros for fighting to get where you are and learning fromtheir mistakes.

Absolutely. My brother is a junkie. Overdosed 8times, it took 6 narcan to bring him back on the last OD. Hes been to rehab so many times, he can't remember all the facilities he's been to. Also in the last 20 years I've gone to about 30-35 funerals for friend that overdosed and died. I know everything i need to know about junkies

Dude I do not think your an asshole. I did when I first started to read this thread but you have your opinion and have been pretty decent about it.

You are trying to deal with something so big it makes you angry ,then you get anger thrown back at you. That's what street drugs do, destroy the ones who use and the ones who choose not to. I'm sorry for your losses.

So let's say I like to bang my head into the wall until I knock myself out. I get a head rush and it feels good. Now I do this for so long I'm getting concussions, im really confused alot and can't go to work. Plus I'm getting thousands of dollars in bills. Now I decide to quit banging my head on the wall, are you guys gonna praise me for stopping? No, you know why? Cause it was stupid to begin with, thats my point.

I'm not saying it needs to be validated, I'm. Just explaining to all those people (like the ones I grew up with) who say it's unnatural.

It is unnatural and you can't find any evolutionary explanations to support it no matter how hard you try. But I do want all children to have loving parents who take good care of them. And I don't understand why homosexual men are only allowed to adopt disabled children. I feel that disabled children need more care than others and two parents would be better for them. Anyway, I'm happy that this sweet and precious child has such a loving father.

I would like to find out the reasoning behind this rule. To me it sounds like disabled children are seen as less valuable, but in reality they are just as valuable and precious as others. They are just more vulnerable and need more support and special care.
