Who cares? You were a junkie that quit. Big deal. Why don't people celebrate for people not stupid enough to do heroin in the first place.

How is that even legal when sexuality and disability are protected characteristics where discrimination is concerned. We'll usually, I'm just horrified that this type of discrimination can exist, but glad these two have found their little family.

Some adoption agencies are run by churches and their “deeply-held religious beliefs” get to say children should have no parents instead of gay ones.

So many straight people/couples don't even want/like/take care of their kids, and so many gay people/couples who want to have kids aren't even allowed to do so. Kids should be raised by people who love them, no matter their gender/sexual orientation. When I read this story a few months ago, it made mi genuinely smile.

For Sarah from 'Action for Happiness,' living a life of happiness and a life of duty and purpose aren't polar opposites: they're both closely interlinked with one another. "Finding real happiness isn't about always seeking a temporary state of feeling good. A lot of what actually makes us happy relates to duty and purpose," she said.

"The 10 keys to happier living are giving, relating, exercising, awareness, trying out, direction, resilience, emotions, acceptance, and meaning. We are likely to be happier if our lives have direction, meaning and purpose and if we are part of something bigger than ourselves," Sarah said that living a life full of purpose with a clear sense of direction while also lending others a helping hand is a more fulfilling one than blundering about aimlessly.

The Client Was Supposed To Wear This Dress For Their Session That Was Canceled, So I Asked My Husband's 87-Year-Old Grandma If She Wanted To Model The Dress For Me

After a little hesitation, I convinced her to do it. I did her make-up, brushed her hair and put the dress on her, she was the happiest little old lady I’ve ever seen. She said she felt like she was a bride again and how she wished her husband was still on this earth with us so she could remarry him again. Btw, it was also her birthday, so it was the perfect little gift to up her spirits

"Giving or doing things for others is another example. Relating is about being connected to other people and being part of a community. Duty and purpose don't have to be serious things, being part of a cause that you care about or taking part in charity fundraising, all these things make us happy and fulfilled. We should see these things as acts of service that help us to be happy and help other people at the same time. Awareness is about appreciating each moment no matter what we are doing at the time."

Sarah gave us some very tips on how to deal with our current feelings of isolation, burnout, and exhaustion. She also shared how we can rediscover our joy of living. First of all, she highlighted the fact that it's perfectly "ok not to be ok," since it's normal to feel isolated and burned out "during a traumatic experience like a pandemic." The key is not to punish yourself for struggling during these difficult times.

French here :) Actually not exactly as it is presented. The government said that it would be facilitated, requiring 2 years of residency and not the 5 usual years. The government asked the local administrations to accelerate and facilitate the process. Local administrations are et totally overwhelmed, with people queueing at 2 am to (not) get an appointment when it opens, sometimes overstaying their residency simply because they can't reach the counter. The announcement leaves behind any foreigner who didn't have papers or residency to begin with, but worked tirelessly in the delivery system that employs a high number of people without checking (basically a guy buys a licence to work as a delivery guys and sells it off to someone without papers...This system of exploitation has yet to be stopped.), in cleaning, security, supermarkets, supporting isolated people. They took risks and helped tremendously throughout the crisis. But for them, it's deportation if they are caught.

They sometimes have been working in France for decades, and not been able to regularise their papers. Also, this announcement is no law, local administrations can implement it IF they want... And given the highly repressive and overwhelmed system (months or even years to get an appointment sometimes as mentioned previously) we have these days on migration, i doubt it'll have much effect...

I was prescribed fentanyl and became addicted to it. Dr wouldn't help me get off of it. Had also been addicted to oxycontin. Stopped smoking three years ago after a stroke. I still dream about smoking. Hang in there. Don't wait until you can't smoke because your in the ICU. Congratulations on being strong.

What's more, even though we might be feeling sapped and down, it's the perfect time to think about others, not just ourselves. "Think about how you can reach out and do things for others, help a neighbour or volunteer for a cause, we get happiness high from helping other people. Or start small and simply list three things that you can be grateful for each night before bed. Take it slow and be kind to yourself, the world is starting to open up but go at the pace that feels good for you," Sarah advised us how we can take the first steps to step out of the pandemic lockdown fog and into the sunlight.

That is so sweet and thoughtful. I once did a 3D print of a hand print for a lady who had lost her son just after birth, plus the prints of her adult daughters. It was a very hard thing for me to do honestly but given that this lady only had the hand and foot prints from her son, I was honoured to be able to give her something she could look at and hold. She now has a framed hand print from all of her children to treasure forever.

Previously, I spoke about the relationship between helping others and happiness with Vanessa King, the Head of Psychology at ‘Action for Happiness,’ a movement that’s dedicated to creating a happier, more caring society. The Dalai Lama is the movement’s patron and King is the author of '10 Keys to Happier Living.'

King told Bored Panda that an important part of being happy is helping others and doing kind things for them.

"If you think about it human beings are social species, we evolved to live in groups so working together and doing things to help each other is the social glue that keeps us together,” King explained.

Where I grew up, the neighbor across the street got brain cancer. His wife took care of him from home. He would plan with her on what to do after he was gone. He worked for a construction company. He told her one day "Now the guys are goin to ask you if there's anything they can do for you. Tell them to paint the house in and out so you can get ready to sell it." A few weeks later...they had the whole house painted in and out in a day.

"Participating in group activities and community events makes us happier too. When we do things for others it activates the reward center in the brain, so when we give a gift it feels the same as receiving a gift," King detailed to Bored Panda in an earlier interview.

Even if we’re not usually altruistic, King had some wonderful news for us: it’s a learned skill that we can develop step by small step. It all comes down to consistently working at it every day. “At Action for Happiness, we provide daily actions and advice on small changes you can take each day to start bringing more kindness into your life. Small daily actions one at a time can help us to make altruism a lifetime habit. You could start out small by deciding you are going to smile at everyone you meet or pay three people a compliment today."

There are other ways to develop your altruistic inclinations, too. For instance, giving money to charity, donating to a food bank, or volunteering your time for a cause that you think is worth it. “You can leave a food package or a note for an elderly neighbor,” King from ‘Action for Happiness’ said.

“All of these actions help others and boost your own happiness and if we are happier, research shows we are even more likely to help others.”

There’s some more good news on the altruistic front. We know that not everyone is willing to help others purely out of the goodness of their heart: they’re constantly thinking about what they get out of it. Fortunately, King told us that it’s perfectly fine to “fake it ‘till you make it” and not worry too much about whether you’re actually being self-interested or kind.

I’ve suspected that it’s kind of a double whammy for loving grandparents to meet the grandchildren. First hit to the gut is the new little life you’re holding in your arms, followed by the throwback of memories when you once held your own child; the realization, you’re holding your baby’s baby.

My grandmother's neighbor, age 72, used to leave exactly 3 peanuts, in the shell, sitting on the window sill in the dining room. There was a tree outside with a single squirrel living in it. For several years, this went on. If she was late putting them out, the little guy would come up to the window and rap his hand on it to let her know he needed breakfast. After she passed, my grandmother fed the squirrel until the house was sold to new owners. She explained to them about the squirrel and they happily kept up his breakfast routine.

“Maybe at first, you start out doing things to help others only to get attention and praise, but you will find that doing things for others helps you feel good and when you see people’s responses. Once you see the difference you can make in the world and to your own happiness and altruism can grow naturally," the Head of Psychology at ‘Action for Happiness’ said.

Kindness, according to King, has a ripple effect. We’re more likely to be kind when we experience kindness in turn. So helping even one person with a seemingly trivial task can have a knock-on effect that’s far bigger than we initially think.

It’s best to do kind things without expecting anything in return. First of all, because it’s the morally correct way of living life. But secondly, because of one very practical aspect: we can never be sure that we’ll be rewarded for our troubles, so it’s best to have very low expectations (or none at all!) so that we’re not left feeling disappointed.

"It may also be helpful for the person to think about why they are seeking attention and reward from an external source, a key part of being happy is feeling comfortable with who you are and accepting life the way it is,” King suggested.

We humans primarily experience the world through sight, and it's hard to imagine anything else. It's fascinating to realize dogs experience the world primarily through scent and not by sight (even when they're not blind).

I wish you the best of luck! I've been on my own weight loss journey since last October & am down 50lbs of 90 I need to lose, total. I am doing calorie restriction with a goal of x amount of calories being lean proteins each day & try to get 10k steps a day. Congrats on taking that first step, it's hard but completely worth it. I feel so much better all over (I used to hurt everywhere, all the time) I know you've got this!

Please don't post things encouraging people to gain weight. I know there is a big is beautiful campaign group and it is just cruel. As much as everyone should love themselves the movement blinds people and makes them think that being obese is fine. Obesity can cause fat to gather around your heart and crush it slowly (which is why obese people get out of breath very quickly.) It can also cause... kidney/liver failure high blood pressure, High LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, or high levels of triglyceride type 2 diabetes. Coronary heart disease. Stroke. Gallbladder disease. Osteoarthritis (a breakdown of cartilage and bone within a joint) I know how much hate I will get for this comment however I dont care.

This Mother Cat Has Taken In An Abandoned Baby Possum

This Mother Cat Has Taken In An Abandoned Baby Possum

My neighbor's black cat had kittens and they found a baby possum on their deck that must have fallen off of its mom. The mama cat took it in as one of her kittens, but she doesn’t understand why this little funny kitten hangs on her all the time. At this point in time we need to be more like the animals, take care of each other in their time of need.

I'm sorry to be the downer here, but we are in worse shape now than we've been in a long time. While this story is heartwarming, it does not reflect the hate that Americans feel for people of color or immigrants right now. If I could leave this country and find a better place, without all the hate, I would.

Ok. So, on his mask, one of the corgis has his hand up like he’s saying hi while wearing his mask. It’s on the left side of the image. My taekwondo instructor has that EXACT SAME IMAGE of a corgis posted on the door to the school reminding everyone to wear a mask because, as she said, “no one can be mad at a corgi wearing a mask”

I had this job at the groomers I worked at. We had one client who had picked up her two schnauzers. She drove across the parking lot and let the dogs out on leashes to go to the bathroom. One of them slipped their collar and we all watched in horror as he ran into traffic and was killed by a passing car. We hugged her and kept her other pupper safe while she dealt with the tragedy. One of the groomers talked to the owner. I called her a month later and asked if she wanted to bring the dog in. She did, and when she came to pick up her pup, I presented her with a card that gave her free grooms for life on her surviving pup. The owner said that she wanted to take some of the burden off of her and let her know that we missed her baby too.

I'm wondering if it is the perfectly ordinary word b-itchily (hyphen in case of stupid censor). BP do go over the top. Are some people seriously bothered by that word? Why make it out to be more than it is really? How do people cope with referring to female dogs, who really are known properly as b-itches.

I had to explained this to my friends daughter. She couldn't understand why her sister was always following her around. I said "She's learning. You'll get to drive first, graduate first, go out on dates first. She just wants to be like you. So try to be kind and you'll teach her to be kind. She idolizes you." She never thought of it that way. They became very close sisters.

Awww he's a handsome guy. Looks like the three I have. Little advice though go get this handsome guy groomed. His beak is way too long and those talons are starting to curl in on themselves. His beak needs trimmed down or it's going to get hard for him to eat and will cause health problems, but other than that he is a very handsome and healthy looking boy. Congrats on your new best friend!

One question, how are you supposed to respect your mother and be considerate when you're still a baby and can't even form coherent words yet, and can't even think, really... it doesn't make sense to me... is she just trying to make other people feel bad about their birth weight and the day they were born? Because that's not something people can control.

You don't have to have a specific cause, but if you're experiencing persistent tiredness without a clear cause, you should definitely talk to your doctor, because there are several serious medical conditions that can cause persistent fatigue, as well as psychological ones such as depression. Depression doesn't always manifest as sadness.

Also, anyone can be in pain. I've had chronic pain for more than 20 years now, and people are often hesitant to mention to me when they're in pain. But your pain doesn't invalidate my pain; I don't hold a monopoly on pain. Pain is awful, whether it's acute or chronic. Be nice if pain had an on/off switch...or, at least, a volume control.

Amen! I'm always being told, "you have no reason to be tired, you sit on your ass 24/7, you barely leave the house and when you do it's only for an hour or so to go shopping" I'm out of work because of the pandemic. But I'm tired because of mental illness, I'm tired from doing nothing but everyday chores around the house, I'm mentally dead because everything going on outside of my home. And, I am tired from always being tired!

Some Pics Of Our Simple Cripple Wedding

Some Pics Of Our Simple Cripple Wedding

I'm Holly, from Australia, you may have seen me around as I often post about my life with a severe late-stage disability. I have Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy which is the degeneration of all my muscles from the chin down.

I'm at the stage where I need help with mostly everything; toileting, showering, eating, etc. Muscular Dystrophy isn't a very well-known condition so a couple of years ago I decided to open my life and show all the ugly, heartbreaking, annoying, and non-inspirational sides to having a debilitating condition. I've posted previously about our little ceremony. It was just parents and the celebrant.

I was so excited to have a reason to glam up! Lying in bed wearing pajamas all day everyday is so boring considering how much I love makeup and dressing up.

    Officially married!

This reminds me of my cousin. He met and married a woman that gave him a son. She also gave him heartache as she became an alcoholic . They divorced and he swore he'd never marry again. Along comes this woman in a wheelchair. Paralyzed from the waist down. He husband left her because he didn't want to spend his life caring for her in that way. My cousin not only married her, but they had two wonderful daughters together. Her ex's loss was my cousin's gain. She's a fantastic woman.

My co-worker had a hard time working from home. She'd go to her office and close the door, but the curtain on the door still left gaps and her two year old daughter would spend most of the time trying to stare at her through the gaps on the door. She said her husband and her finally decided to try something. She says every morning now, she gets up, gets ready and says "Bye..mommy has to go to work." Big Kiss and Hug. Gets in her car, drives around the block and then sneaks in the back door to her office. Her daughter thinks "Ok..moms at work now." She now goes about playing instead of trying to find Mommy.

My dad passed 8 years ago and my mom found one of the cards I gave him in his drawer. She gave it back to me and I keep it in my office drawer for when I am having a bad day and need a pick me up from him.

Saved A Robin From A "Murder" Of Crows Yesterday

Saved A Robin From A "Murder" Of Crows Yesterday

There was a robin getting his butt kicked by a bunch of crows in the Verizon parking lot today, I ran over and scooped the robin up. We pack bonded and then I brought him to a wildlife rehab center. He was stunned for a bit but not bloody. He became alert and mobile after a bit, so I'm confident that he will recover. He held my hand and I almost died.

My economics professor had a husband that hated using tennis balls over and over again. So she's bring them to class and give them to the students that had puppies. She was elated when she found out I worked at a groomers. She now takes them down to the shop so that each pup can go home with his/her very own tennis ball.

We use the shakers that you mix protein shakes in, the ones with the wire ball. Work like a charm. Also good for mixing up pancake batter and it's less messy.

Broken glass or anything with spikes should be put in boxes, not trashbags, though.

It’s a pig, a fresh, healthy, dead pig. It’s not a rotting corpse. That would be gross. It’s delicious. Try a nice crispy slice of bacon.

My favorite meat was pork. Nowadays I can't eat pork etc as I have learned so much about Farm animals how loving and wonderful pets they could be if we did not kill and eat them. They have the same feelings as dogs and cats. They make wonderful friends. I once saw a bull calf taken away from it's mother to be put into the butcher's van. The cow and the calf were both crying, it just broke my heart. They have the same feelings as humans.
