Embracing yourself and coming to terms with your appearance can take years. But some people are born with genes that make them stand out even more than us regular folks. Because of this, getting through the day can be a lot harder. That's why it's so awesome to see those who aren't hiding and are confident in their skin.
So we at Bored Panda decided to expand on our earlier publications (this one and this one) and compile a new list of pictures posted by folks with unusual and rare body features. Like pear-shaped pupils. Or abnormally long arms. Despite the challenges these people face, they choose to live their lives with a positive attitude. And that's something to be celebrated.

I checked the stats and that is indeed what the hospital says, but apparently most people get surgery around 1 or 2 years old to remove one of the extra bits. So there are 26k people running around the country who may have once had thumbs like this! Cool.

I have vitiligo! Mine's segmental (around hands, joints, eyes, mouth and neck) and usually appears after an injury or because of stress. I never knew what it was until I became an adult, my family called it Maw-maw's disease because my great grandmother was the only other person that had it. She looked like a reverse giraffe in her old age, I can't wait. Vitiligo is uniquely beautiful. <3

While genomes may differ greatly, the genes themselves are all built in the same way. A gene is a section of a long molecule called deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), or—in some viruses—a similar molecule called ribonucleic acid (RNA).
DNA and RNA are made of building blocks called nucleotides. Each nucleotide is constructed around one of the four different subunits, called bases. These bases are known as guanine, cytosine, adenine, and thymine (in RNA thymine is replaced with uracil).
A gene carries information in the sequence of its nucleotides, just as a sentence carries information in the sequence of its letters. Although most genes are made of DNA, the genes use RNA to make the proteins that are coded for in the DNA.

Genetic disorders occur when a mutation (a harmful change to a gene, also known as a pathogenic variant) affects our genes or when we have the wrong amount of genetic material.
We receive half our genes from each biological parent and may inherit a gene mutation from one of them or both. Sometimes genes change due to issues within the DNA (mutations). This can raise our risk of having a genetic disorder. Some cause symptoms at birth, while others develop over time.

Genetic disorders can be:
- Chromosomal: This type affects the structures that hold your genes/DNA within each cell (chromosomes). With these conditions, people are missing or have duplicated chromosome material;
- Complex (multifactorial): These disorders stem from a combination of gene mutations and other factors. They include chemical exposure, diet, certain medications, and tobacco or alcohol use;
- Single-gene (monogenic): This group of conditions occurs from a single gene mutation.

There is a condition known as âcolobomaâ which can cause this type of pupil irregularities. In the show âVikingsâ there was a character, based on a real historical figure known as âSigurd Snake-in-the-eyeâ. It has been hypothesised by historians that Sigurd had coloboma, giving him the snake-in-the-eye look and, hence, earning him his title.
There is often little we can do to prevent a genetic disorder. But genetic counseling and testing can help us learn more about our risks.
If you have a family history of a genetic disorder, you may wish to consider genetic counseling to see if testing is appropriate for you. Lab tests can typically show whether you have gene mutations responsible for that condition. In many cases, carrying the mutation does not always mean you’ll end up with it.

My daughter had such big muscles that she ended up needing to go to physical therapy as they were so tight she couldnât stand up straight. The doctor said she had hypertrophy. My granddaughter was born with this syndrome. She had a cleft palate and a recessed jaw. She was in NICU for the first 2 months of her life. She had surgery at one month old that broke her jaw, pulled it forward and inserted screws into her jaw to bring it forward a little more gradually. Today at 8 years old, you can't tell she was born with any abnormality whatsoever.

My physical weirdness is that I have hobbit feet. They're an EEE width. Also, one is an inch longer than the other. I often wish I lived before the industrial revolution so that I could easily get handmade shoes that fit.

OMG, I have every kind of large foot proportion; wide feet, high arches, long toes, and one foot longer than the other. I have bought shoe stretchers and made several types of my own. It takes several months (or up to a year) to gradually stretch a shoe to the size I need.

I was born with a condition called craniosynostosis (premature fusion of the skull in utero). The specific type I have is trigonocephaly (premature fusion of the metopic (forehead) suture resulting in a triangular shaped skull. This scar goes all the way across the top of my head from ear to ear. Other symptoms include short stature and other bone deformities (follow up picture of my hand - both pinkies and index fingers are bent). I also have a lot of eye, ear, nose, and throat issues. 35 years old and just had my 29th surgery in January. IMG_202209...a04ab3.jpg

I was born without cartilage in the first joint of my left thumb. The two bones are fused together with the end part of my thumb at about a 45 degree angle.

I was born with 2 extra ribs, bilateral cervical ribs. They can cause nerve issues and I just so happen to have nerve damage near them (unrelated) so they make that a little more annoying.

As someone with Vitiligo and seeing how many on here have it, I would like to see more people on TV with it exposed and not covered by make-up. We should be celebrating our differences and not be all trying to obtain 'perfection' which doesn't exist.

I realized reading this I might have central heterochromia. I have blue-green eyes and I have a brown ring in the middle around my pupil. I mean I've always thought my eyes were weird (the pretty kind of weird) and now it's basically confirmed lol

I was born with a hole in my eye (optic nerve pit on the retina) that was leaking brain fluid into it that wasn't picked up until I started school which is apparently genetic. Also two of my brothers had a severe degenerative neuro-muscular disorder (similar to muscular dystrophy) that is so rare it has no name (our paediatrician called it Hudson's syndrome and only knew of one other person, a girl in the US who likely had the same condition). When they died we had tissue samples submitted for genetic testing, but the human genome project was still in infancy at the time and no more was really done. The rest of the family is only now (12 years after the youngest died) going to get genetic counselling done. After the eldest was born, my parents were told there was a 1 in 4 chance of other children having it. Just so happened that baby 1 and baby 5 were the only ones with it.

Not me but my brother. He was born without the thing underneath the tongue that keeps it down. Some of the things he did as a teenage were weird. I had two extra teeth and I had two permanent teeth pulled out so that the extra ones could grow in their place. If I had been born before modern times, I would have fit in a freak circus as a vampire. There are others in my family who have too many teeth, but extra baby teeth are more common. I also have other small things like central heterochromia and dark brown hair grows among my light hair. There are places on my skin that tan more easily. I may be a chimera and joke that I am the evil twin and ate my sister in the womb. (Two fertilized eggs fuse together in the womb).

You want fun? DNA proved the child was the husband's. Both he and his wife were blue-eyed, child had brown eyes. Their kid. Really odd shake-up in the DNA is all. The whole Bb Punnet Square, fun as it is in school, is, sadly, a myth. Granted it's like 1 in 100 or something similar. People get all freaky, but, no, the internet and your high school teacher were/are incorrect. It's rare, but not that rare. You can also have aberrant ABO blood types in the kids. Again, Punnet Squares are for demonstration, not reality.

I can put my tongue upside down, have no apparent nipples and can move my toe a weird way. Not to start on my reproductive system, it's been a long long story still with no medical help or explanation, long story short I wonder if I'm intersex or what

Idk how common it is, but I have a very mild case of mentalis strain. My lips don't fully close, even in a completely rested position. I say mild mostly because I don't have jaw issues (other than some non-related joint/muscle tensions) and my jaw/chin are neatly defined and not overly "soft" (I have rather soft features, regardless)

The only odd thing I can do is I can put the soles of my feet together with my legs straight (knees not bent). Unfortunately, this makes me more prone to sprain my ankles.

Should I have been the mum of a child with any one of these human conditions, my biggest fear would have been the reactions of most adults. Children would point and ask questions,. Humanity can be so cruel. Be strong young parents, give strength and humanity and humility as life long skills to you children.

All the way from my fingers up to my elbows turn purple sometimes. I also have mild skeeter syndrome. White patches on my hands, shoulders, and legs, and this one isn’t as interesting but I had an extra bit on skin on my foot that we removed when I was little. I personally think the coolest one is my arms turning purple. I don’t know what it is, probably something to do with nerves. But it’s usually when I’m cold, anxious, or excited lol

My elbows also bend both directions which I actually thought was normal until someone pointed it out. When I reach to hug people they bend back and I had a friend who tried to copy it and a friend who tried to punch my elbows back into place

I guess I have some type of Heterochroma, as my eyes are yellow close to the pupil, and grey on the outer side. I would post a picture if it was possible here

My dad's side of the family, including my sister and I have little bumps on our neck. In my leg, the bones that separate the ankle from the foot are fused together. I have a birthmark in my right eye. My mom has very small veins and my sister and I have veins that move. My mom and her sister have a gap between their two front teeth.

My physical weirdness is that I have hobbit feet. They're an EEE width. Also, one is an inch longer than the other. I often wish I lived before the industrial revolution so that I could easily get handmade shoes that fit.

OMG, I have every kind of large foot proportion; wide feet, high arches, long toes, and one foot longer than the other. I have bought shoe stretchers and made several types of my own. It takes several months (or up to a year) to gradually stretch a shoe to the size I need.

I was born with a condition called craniosynostosis (premature fusion of the skull in utero). The specific type I have is trigonocephaly (premature fusion of the metopic (forehead) suture resulting in a triangular shaped skull. This scar goes all the way across the top of my head from ear to ear. Other symptoms include short stature and other bone deformities (follow up picture of my hand - both pinkies and index fingers are bent). I was born without cartilage in the first joint of my left thumb. The two bones are fused together with the end part of my thumb at about a 45 degree angle.

I was born with 2 extra ribs, bilateral cervical ribs. They can cause nerve issues and I just so happen to have nerve damage near them (unrelated) so they make that a little more annoying.

As someone with Vitiligo and seeing how many on here have it, I would like to see more people on TV with it exposed and not covered by make-up. We should be celebrating our differences and not be all trying to obtain 'perfection' which doesn't exist.

I realized reading this I might have central heterochromia. I have blue-green eyes and I have a brown ring in the middle around my pupil. I mean I've always thought my eyes were weird (the pretty kind of weird) and now it's basically confirmed lol

I was born with a hole in my eye (optic nerve pit on the retina) that was leaking brain fluid into it that wasn't picked up until I started school which is apparently genetic. Also two of my brothers had a severe degenerative neuro-muscular disorder (similar to muscular dystrophy) that is so rare it has no name (our paediatrician called it Hudson's syndrome and only knew of one other person, a girl in the US who likely had the same condition). When they died we had tissue samples submitted for genetic testing, but the human genome project was still in infancy at the time and no more was really done. The rest of the family is only now (12 years after the youngest died) going to get genetic counselling done. After the eldest was born, my parents were told there was a 1 in 4 chance of other children having it. Just so happened that baby 1 and baby 5 were the only ones with it.

Not me but my brother. He was born without the thing underneath the tongue that keeps it down. Some of the things he did as a teenage were weird.
