I'd do it in a heartbeat! Better than winter camping in a tent! Men have it easy when nature calls, we do not ! Middle of the night bladder is screaming, I start to get up but our breath had created icicles in the tent ceiling. The Minute I sat up it rained down all over me! Don't get me started on trying to go "tt" in minus 30°f!

I saw this on one of George Clarke’s programmes. The walls are surprisingly high, so people can’t see over. The idea is to leave the ceiling uncovered so you sleep under the stars and can see the northern lights etc. Some had communal shower facilities dotted around, others had little toilets just inside where you walk in. If you look at the photo, there’s a mini corridor attached to the dome.

What would the amenities be like here? It's so beautiful I still miss not being able t to do all the things I used to. My top bucket list item would be a lot cabin in the mountains in the winter with a beautiful fire place and gallons of bot chocolate! Sigh a girl can dream.

It looks great but I'm absolutely against all these attractions including animals. Even if they are treated "good" they are used as objects and it's damaging nature. They are taken out of their natural environment and some species almost disappeared completely out of their natural habitats because of businesses making them a fancy floor.

When I read about this one, I contemplated planning my next travel itinerary to Chile. I mean, staying in a mountain with a permanent waterfall on its side? Deal. The mountain is surrounded by a massive rainforest, so it’s the best place to hike, meet some fascinating animals, observe nature, and fly with one of the longest zip-wires in South America!

I've stayed here - I think it is the Kelebek cave hotel - it's in the region of Capadoccia, which was used for the filming of one of the Star wars films because of it's other worldly look. As an aside, when I was there in 2010 there were still many of the stacks lived in by local people.

This is so beautiful but what type of facilities are there for the otherwise able and what is the ambient temperature inside? Not that I could afford it in the current economic climate,but a girl can dream! And my beautiful Huskies would love being able to go somewhere like that. AhhhHellNah! I live in the Ozarks of NW Arkansas. It is absolutely gorgeous here. They have lovely cabins in the State Parks, and you can walk to beautiful rivers and so many natural waterfalls. On overlooking the lakes. Or Buffalo River nature area. Beautiful canyon walls next to the beautiful river which is great to float (not in inner tubes). Elk and dear randomly wandering about. That price is completely unnecessary.

You’ll find tons of unique hotels on this list, but Crazy House is truly a fairy tale that comes alive. Located in Dalat City and designed by Vietnamese architect Dang Viet Nga, Crazy House resembles a giant tree and, at least at first, was just a personal project. The financial burden made the architect reconsider the purpose of the building, and she then decided to turn it into a guesthouse in 1990.

An old decrepit Iljoesjin Il-18, converted into a beautiful hotel suite next to a small airfield. With a beautiful old city to the east (Deventer) about 15 minutes away, and an incredible nature reserve (Veluwe) on the other side of the -not *that* interesting- city in the west (Apeldoorn. Only 2 things worth visiting:the former Royal palace 't Loo [pronounced as "low"] and the zoo Apenheul, specialized in monkeys) But there are plenty of normal, affordable hotels in the area, as well as several great vacation parks ( Landal, Centre Parks, Roompot)

I stayed here for a night. Each room is themed; need to check all of them out. I was in the "Espania" room. The decor, as the whole property, is over the top. The picture here is of the steakhouse, which is done in Pepto-Bismol pink with a gold iron tree and cherubs spreading over the diners. Located on the California Central Coast near San Luis Obispo. A definite bucket list item.

At the time the chain was established (yes, it was a chain), they were mistakenly called Wigwams instead of teepees. And yes, this is disrespectful, especially since they are built on areas which were stolen for indigenous people. They also were part of the perpetuation of stereotypes of indigenous Americans.

This is located in Holbyrook, AZ. It is a restored Route 66 motel that uses the old cars to harken back to the time before interstates. I stayed here for a night. The decor is very kitchy.

This is a great place. It was an old, multi-story, grade school. Really unique building. Then the McMenamin brothers bought it and turned it into an entertainment/hotel/venue with all kinds of neat bars, restaurants, soaking pool, movie theater and gift shop. The old school rooms are now hotel rooms. Really cool place in Portland, Oregon. The buy a lot of old buildings in Oregon and Washington state and turn them into destination hotels and/or restaurants.

A similar hotel exists in the center of Rotterdam. "De Rotterdam" was used by the Holland-Amerika Lijn. Now completely restored in original style, with the "modernities" nicely hidden. Tours are available, and the restaurant is open to visitors and guests alike. Even if you're in the area for a day, it's worth visiting

Most unique place I ever stayed at was the attic of a very posh hotel in Edinburgh: we arrived late at night (near midnight) in the pouring rain, desperate because all youth hostels were filled up thanks to some small festival or something (/s). The hotel manager said there were no more rooms available but we could sleep in the attic if we had no other place to stay. He then ushered us away from the golden fancy carpeted halls to some decrepit little hidden wooden stairs into the most beautiful attic I’ve ever seen. He charged us like 1/4th of the price of an actual room but if I ever find that place again I’d pay double the normal rate to be allowed to sleep in that attic again!

Most unique place I ever stayed at was the attic of a very posh hotel in Edinburgh: we arrived late at night (near midnight) in the pouring rain, desperate because all youth hostels were filled up thanks to some small festival or something (/s). The hotel manager said there were no more rooms available but we could sleep in the attic if we had no other place to stay. He then ushered us away from the golden fancy carpeted halls to some decrepit little hidden wooden stairs into the most beautiful attic I’ve ever seen. He charged us like 1/4th of the price of an actual room but if I ever find that place again I’d pay double the normal rate to be allowed to sleep in that attic again!
