And, truly, two cats really are better than one, and we’ve got the proof. Bored Panda has collected some of the most fun, wholesome, and hilarious photos of cat duos goofing and lazing about, all to heal and soothe your souls, dear Pandas. PDSA Vet Anna Ewers Clark gave Bored Panda a look at the other side of the story, how domestic cats tend to be rather solitary creatures who tend to like their own company. “Although it can be tempting to think that your cat might benefit from getting another feline friend, quite the opposite could be true! Introducing a new, unrelated cat to an existing cat’s territory can actually be very stressful for them both, so think very carefully before getting ‘company’ for your cat,” she said that cat owners should be aware of this before introducing a new pet into the household.

Adopting bonded kittens is always a good idea. Especially if you have no other cats because, believe it or not, cats DO get lonely when they are left home alone.

good for you, jackson galaxy says to always adopt kittens in pairs, as they're usually already bonded, and your entire life with these cats will be much easier if they get along and can play and interact with each other happily

I love when mine are cuddling and grooming each other, suddenly start biting each other's faces, and then go back to cuddling like that's normal.
According to Anna, a vet working with the PDSA, cats can enjoy living together in some particular cases. “Siblings from the same litter, or kittens that have grown up together can get along quite well and enjoy each other’s company,” she gave Bored Panda an example.
“Signs your cats get along include grooming each other, snoozing together, touching noses, and rubbing their heads together. They will also like to do things together, like relaxing in the garden or playing together, and may like to have friendly play-fights,” the vet gave examples of positive behaviors that show everything’s right as rain.

Anyone who says animals don't have emotions like we do is an idiot.
However, the play-fights in this case will be quiet, start up and stop a lot, and the cats’ ears will be forward and alert.
Some things that indicate that there’s trouble brewing, according to vet Anna, include the following: “If the fighting is continuous, you hear hissing, their ears are back and flat to their head, their backs are arched or you see claws orbiting, it’s likely this isn’t just a play-fight. Break it up by making a loud noise or placing a physical barrier between them—don’t use your hands though!” You can find some more tips and advice on how to stop cats from fighting right over here.

Two of my favorite things in one picture: dragons and cats.
But like people, even cats that get along with other felines, will want to have some space for alone time and may prefer to eat separately. “Always make sure they have separate food and water bowls, and spread these out so they can eat separately,” PDSA Vet Anna said.
“They’ll also need separate litter trays, scratching posts, beds and any other resources. A good rule is to supply one of each resource per cat, plus one extra, to ensure they can always choose to be alone if they prefer.”
Some of the signs that your cats aren’t getting along include hissing, growling, scratching, and being aggressive towards each other. What’s more, another indication of stress can be if your cats spray urine indoors or toilet outside of their litter trays or in different places of the house.

According to the expert, cats that have playmates tend to be more socially well-adjusted, have fewer behavior problems, are less aggressive, and are not as shy, on the flip side. In short, socialization brings out the best in cats.
What’s more, if cats are poorly socialized during their early life, they may not know how to react when they eventually come into contact with an actual cat later on. Think about how Disney’s Tarzan reacted to seeing a human being for the first time as an adult.

Furthermore, pets that have other pets to play with can be far more active. And active cats are healthier, happier, and tend to be slimmer. This is very important considering the various health issues that come with a catto being a chonker: they might look huggable but their quality of life suffers as a result.
When cats have company, they also tend to be less destructive. That’s because they’re not as bored and so don’t need to try so hard to get their owner’s attention: they’ve already got someone to play with even if their hooman is busy.

Those are strikingly beautiful felines and a very sweet and lucky little person.
Having two cats also means that you don’t have to worry as much about your pet getting lonely if you ever go on a short trip or have to work long hours at the popcorn mines/corporate office. And, Fundamentally Feline argues, having a playmate will keep your floof of a feline young and energetic into its senior years.

My parents decided to adopt a stray with a litter of one. This is after they had said that they weren't going to adopt a cat, but a dog. I have a couple sibs who are allergic to cats and my sister-in-law who is also allergic to dogs, so there will be a couple of rooms where kitties won't be allowed. Blackie has bonded with my dad, who has Alzheimer's. She follows him everywhere. The 'rents are in their 80s.

I took my catt to my boyfriend's one weekend and his dog was sleeping on the couch when we arrived. The next morning the cat comes into the kitchen from the bdrm the same time the dog walks in from the livingroom, sees the cat, stops and pees on the floor standing there! Too funny!!!

Pets or kids, there’s no such thing as a private sit down—-if you try to close the door to the throne room, they’ll either figure out how to open it, or will caterwaul at the top of their lungs until you open it yourself to get them to stop.

That seems to be a common way of holding cats for taking a picture with them, but it really isn't comfortable for the cats. They dpn't know you're only going to let them dangle for a minute or so. They only know that they don't feel secure and that it's uncomfortable. Don't do it.
