A few of the cakes show no-face... I haven't seen this adorable movie, so I may be mistaken, but wasn't no-face in the movie spirited away, not my neighbor totoro? If he's in both I may have more reason to watch Totoro's movie ^u^
Yes, but I suppose some makers just wanted to add a few extra characters from Studio Ghibli... I don't know, but the characters are pretty iconic.
Considering some of them have Calcifer and a heap of Doctor who figures, I'd say the theme isn't quite that strict.

A few are a mix of of characters, like the flame from howls moving castle, no face from spirited away, the little ghost spirits from Princess Mononoke, and then the red bow on the one makes me thing of Kiki's Delivery Service.
