A large part of our experience on the internet involves separating the wheat from the chaff: the truth from fiction and facts from lies. We’re constantly thinking, evaluating, and analyzing the information we read, see, and hear, even if we’re not always consciously aware of this.
Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen the rise of ridiculous conspiracy theories like the debunked link between 5G and Covid-19. Nonetheless, various conspiracies, big and small, continue to fascinate people. A simple fact that some people might forget, however, is that some conspiracy theories turn out to be true. And at that point, they simply become… theories.
Reddit users shared their opinions on some conspiracy theories that they personally think are “too logical to ignore.” We’ve collected the most interesting speculations to share with you, Pandas. Have a read, have a think, and let us know in the comments what you think about all these theories.
Bored Panda reached out to Steven Wooding for a chat about conspiracy theories. He is a member of the Insitute of Physics in the UK, as well as a member of the Omni Calculator Project that creates things like the Weird Units Converter. Steven told Bored Panda that the first step anyone should take when evaluating a theory is to check out fact-checking services. "I can recommend PolitiFact.com and FactCheck.org," he said, adding that right here is a nice list of additional fact-checking websites.
"I think that while reading the news every day, we should never forget that the world is a complicated place. The events that occur are usually the result of multiple processes rather than a single cause," Steven said. Scroll down for the rest of his insights and why we should be suspicious of theories that focus only on a single cause for something.
Remember, just because something sounds logical doesn’t make it true. On the flip side, something that sounds weird isn’t automatically false. And above all, take everything that you read on the internet with a grain of salt. Do your due diligence and double-check any and all facts that sound iffy to you, no matter where you might find them.

I was just talking to my mother the other day about how tired I am of everyone going around in circles debating the same crap while we ignore the enormous looming problems coming our way. Not that things like vaccinations and abortion aren't very important issues, but they're a distraction from topics like the stripping away of voting rights and the fact that we aren't doing enough about climate change. Those are what's going to destroy us if we don't WAKE UP.

There was this project for a gigantic solar Park in north Afrika and how the electricity should have been delivered to Europe. Next thing Happening is the Arabic Spring in Northern Africa and we never heard of the project again and still buy oil and Gas from Saudi Arabia and Russia etc.
Steven told Bored Panda the type of interpretation of reality that recognizes only a single cause as a factor in political, social, or historical change is known as monocausal. Reality is often more complex.
"If a theory explaining an aspect of reality has monocausal tendencies (or even shamelessly presents itself as monocausal), it is highly likely to be wrong. We should develop a habit of thinking about this every time we hear a theory supposed to explain some 'hidden truth' to us. Then, if you think to yourself, 'Wow, that sounds pretty monocausal!'—it's a sign you should do your research."
Steven believes that people's fascination with conspiracy theories has to do with the desire for simplicity and clarity in an overly-complex, often-muddled world. "The world is complicated: many processes are going on that we don't have time to follow, don't have the knowledge to explore, don't have an awareness of their existence. Conspiracy theories are usually simple: in their worldview, one cause determines everything (the world is ruled by lizard people, etc.)," he explained.

Ancient civilizations were just as smart as us. Idk why people act like they were apes. Industrialization and colonialism spread knowledge and technology across the world and made humanity seem collectively advanced. If we had no way of reaching one another some nations would still be far behind. It could be that some civilizations had a similar breakthrough in science but died out before preserving or spreading that knowledge.

Yep, I've thought this for a long time. Modern civilisation dates back around 6000 years and recorded history around 5000 years. Yet humans like us have been knocking around for approximately 300,000 years (even at a conservative estimate). It seems somewhat unbelievable that in all that time we have only reached the level of civilisation once (and that's ignoring ancient myths about advanced people in pre-history and evidence of advanced engineering that's ignored).

I think about it alot. And it is possible that we life in one of the cycles of human civilization where there is some disaster and people almost got extinct, they go through all phases from stone age to modern civilisation like we are now and even much more advanced. Then they starting to care about environment. Start to make everything Eco friendly and decomposable. Every data and knowledge is stored in some computer-like devices. So when a new collapse of civilization comes. there no physical evidence of civilization left in 30-50 thousands years. And we could literally walk on big amount of ancient civilisations data stored in stones. Or it can be stored in diamond of some fancy ring and we never know about it because technology is lost long time ago

All anyone needs to do to understand this is to go to one of the ancient cities. Yes. I understand travel is something the privileged do but unlike when I went to Ephesus when I was 21 we now have the internet. Their population was larger than the city I live in now. They had running water and sewage. They understood acoustics that could reach every one of the 20,000'ish person audience without microphones & speakers. The ancient's were more advanced than people even realize but much of their achievements have been lost. Most people don't even know the names of their great grandparents and that's your family.

If someone from any given time frame was brought forward to our current time frame and raised with our modern education - 1) They would be just as intelligent as us 2) They'd be a time traveller
"They present (at least at first) a clear and lucid vision of the world—often based on Manichean [good vs. evil] opposition. They give the false impression of thoroughly understanding and explaining the world in a simple way." Other reasons for the spread of conspiracy theories include teleological thinking, e.g. thinking about the purpose of something rather than its cause. Although Steven doesn't think that the moral aspect (that's the "good vs. evil" part) isn't the core element that explains why conspiracy theories are so popular, there's still a strong correlation between the two.
"Studies prove that people who believe in one conspiracy theory are much more likely to believe in another. In this sense, I think that every conspiracy theory is wrong. They differ only in scale, but they are all part of the same mechanism."

There are theories that many famous female stars who were blacklisted (Megan Fox is a good example) were blacklisted because they refused to sleep with directors and producers.

a friend of mine wanted to start her career in TV, she started with commercials and ended up in a quiz show as an image girl. the very famous quiz presenter used to organize lots of (let's called them) " staff parties " where it was more let's see who he can easily F. First time she went to one of those parties she refused to be "nice" to him and that's where her TV career ended. that was back in the 90s. now she is a happy mum :)

Joseph M. Pierre, a professor of psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, told Bored Panda during an earlier interview that conspiracy theorists tend to focus on certain events when twisting the truth for their own purposes.
“It is true that certain historical events do tend to attract conspiracy theories and there is evidence that times of societal upheaval or crisis when people are feeling unsafe and desperate for clarity offer a kind of fertile soil for conspiracy theory beliefs,” he said.

David Miscavige, the chairman of the Church of Scientology definitely murdered his wife and is getting off scott free for it. Him and his wife got into a pretty heated argument in 2007, and she hasn’t been seen since. Lawyers hired by David claim she is still alive and devotes 100% of her time to work at the church of scientology, which is why she hasn’t been seen since August 2007. In 2013, a former member of the church had filed a missing person report that was closed after a few officers had “spoken and seen Mrs.Miscavige”, even though there’s no evidence whatsoever of this meeting. All missing person’s reports now are turned down since this investigation is forever closed.

By extension there must be people making money supplying victims in the same way Epstein was supplying girls to the wealthy who wanted to scratch an itch. So my dad actually confirmed a popular conspiracy theory.
I told him about the “laundry detergent caps have the full line too high on purpose”, and he told me this was true. He interned at P&G, and they taught him the full line was for “the highest level of cleanliness our product can give”. You can get away with using much less detergent.

“I used that question in person at FEIC [Flat Earth International Conference] 2018 and it was very telling. Most of them just said ‘proof’ and I said ‘proof of what?’ They couldn’t be specific. This shows that their beliefs weren’t really based on evidence in the first place,” the expert said how conspiracy theorists tend to think.

Except this was thoroughly debunked. Coke had already switched the Corn Syrup prior to New Coke, they had slowly starting swapping out the sugar into a sugar and corn syrup blend back in the 70s, until by the time of New Coke it already had been for 2 years all Corn and not sugar. Further in blind taste test of over 50,000 people, over 90% prefered New Coke when they didnt know which was which for the taste. However New Coke was sweeter and Coke had for years been advertising that they were less sugary and less sweet than Pepsi, but more flavor. The Sweeter one, clashed with that. They lost over $300,000,000 from this, and an exec resigned.

I quite like the missing cosmonauts theory. It's unlikely but seems like it could have been possible. It boils down to the idea that Yuri Gagarin wasn't the first man in space. He was just the first man in space to survive the entire process.

Quite likely, but at least one of the more famous "missing cosmonauts" was a hoax. There were supposedly audio recordings of a female cosmonaut burning up after a malfunction on their ship but it was found to be (iirc) an Italian woman faking the recording for a radio station.

Normally I would say the USSR covering something up is entirely plausible but they announced Yuri Gagarin had launched while he was still in space. Logically if they'd launched anyone before him they'd have done the same thing and then seriously regretted it when the person died. Launch and re-entry are the two most dangerous points so it's possible previous cosmonauts got exploded on the launch pad and that was covered up but if any of them had made it into space, we'd likely know just as we know about Vladimir Komarov.

They may have outwaited some critical points in Gagarin's flight also, ... like, last stage has ignited successfully, so, now not much can go wrong anymore, we'll announce. Something like that. The dogs, however, weren't that likely to survive the first few times. Everyone who survived their trip, were retired and spoiled afterwards as pets of the people working on the cosmic flight programs ... which sounds a lot more caring than the USSR as a whole was - an uncaring system of petrified ideas, a caricature derived from a great idea that has never been honestly tried, but always just ... anyway, not the point here. Vladimir Ilyushin is rumoured to have been the first man into space and return alive, however, his re-entry went awry, and he landed in China. Thus, it was an embarrassment, so they claimed he'd been in a car crash-- the story kept changing. And they then said that Yuri was the first, because his launch and re-entry went perfectly. Fascinating read if you're interested.

Google Maps only asks you for feedback on its navigation when it knows it did a good job.
I use navigation all the time, and I find that when it gets me to the destination on time or earlier than predicted, I get a notification asking to rate the trip. But if it gets me there after it originally estimated, I never get that notification.

Microsoft Teams does this. When ever there's a crappy sound, video braking etc. it won't ask. But when we have a meeting with no issues, then the rating pops up. Tbf Teams is working better now but during first year of wfh there was a lot of problems with it.

Slightly off topic, but related. Before the corona, when I used to commute to work every single day, and hang out a lot, Google would sometimes notify me of the public transport I should take. So, when I'd stay outside of my living area in the night, it would tell me, for example, which bus I should take and its schedule, in case I want to go back home. So, when we finally got a car (my husband is driving), and we went for a night ride to try it out, Google did its job and sent me the aforementioned notification. And I found it kinda funny, as if my phone was trying to protect me.... from my husband ^^" Later, eventually, it learned it's our car, without me touching any settings. Btw, this function hasn't been active for a long time now. Didn't turn it off myself, but I'm okay with or without it.

Google has never asked me for a rating. Probably because it's usually off by a house or so, sometimes more. In our country, the street house/complex/building number is the generic registered address, usually starting on a random end of the property and NOT where the actual entrance is. Very frustrating with large complexes, or large properties

"Conspiracy", from latin "con" together, aspirare, to aspire or hope. To sit together and plan. "Theory". From greek theoria, meaning theory, idea, concept. So, it JUST means a theory or idea, that some people have got together, to plan something. That's it. That's all. It doesn't mean "idiotic idea dreamt up by idiots." They didn't make up the term, they just used it in a sneering, mocking way to make everyone roll their eyes at conspiracy theorists. It's something that people have always done, take a word that is neither positive or negative, then make it negative and offensive. Just look at the words 'f****t' and 'spastic', completely innocent words, until people started using them in a derogative way.

This one is small and local but still too insane to ignore and just came up today.
Just recently, our small suburban town’s favorite gas station went out of business. Everyone went there, the guy who ran it was the mayor. He retires and sells the property after an issue with the ground underneath the gas pumps. They tear down the gas pumps and keep the garage, Mavis Tire bought the property and opened a new store.
A few days after the Mavis opens, someone posts a picture on Facebook of an intersection at a road near it with nails all over the road. The guy theroizies that a box of nails fell off of a construction truck. The police come clean it up and it seems all is well. Fast forward a few days later and people are commenting on the post that they’re finding nails in their car tires. Not just from that intersection. People jokingly say “maybe it was the new Mavis guys throwing nails around” but nothing really happens.
Several weeks later, people have been posting day in and day out pictures of nails in their car tires. My dad took my car in to the Mavis in question about 3 weeks ago and they found a nail inside of the right front tire. I noticed that it was driving sort of funny but never that my tire was on the verge of exploding.
I jokingly said “people have been saying you guys have just been going around throwing nails all over the place” trying not to laugh at how insane it sounded to say out loud. The guy behind the counter said nothing but “yeah” with a weird smirk.
Over 50 people have posted on the town Facebook that their cars have had nails in their tires. My mom is driving my car now because her car has a nail in the tire.

This happened to my Dad. He had to get new tires for land cruiser, this happened in a remote area in the highlands of Fiji, so one place he could get them fixed. Then it happened again that afternoon. After getting it fixed again, he had a good look at the stretch of road, and there were bananas with massive nails in them. He hid out on the side of the road and sure enough, some kids came back and he caught them putting more banana nails down. He grabbed one of them, and they quickly confessed to the local garbage paying them.

This situation is different in every country, some countries is not so much a conspiracy but a statement of fact, it's no secret that Kim Jong-Un controls the media in N.Korea, while in the US It's hard not to see how media channels like Fox news is designed to support one political side more than the other. Over here in the UK, BBC news favours an established way of doing things and will attack anything that they see deviating from that path, be it left or right wing.

Diana was treated poorly by the Royal Family, yes, but it was her own bad decisions about getting into that car with a drunk driver, and then the paparazzi following them that killed her. Drunk driver + deliberately driving dangerously = perfect recipe for a horrific crash. How perfect for the media to be able to point theories at the Royal Family so that people don't stop to think about the role of paparazzi - who make the media billions - and how frankly sick it is to allow legal stalking for profit. One of the published photos shows the driver and passenger clearly trying to shield their eyes from the blinding flashes. Thirdly. 9/11 was allowed to happen so the government could go ahead with political agendas that would've been very unpopular otherwise. There were all kinds of advanced warnings that an attack was imminent, yet they were ignored.
The attack allowed for the invasion and never-ending occupation of the Middle East, as well as the Patriot Act that allows for increased spying by the government (and was passed only about a month after 9/11).

I don’t know about this one. Sometimes government keeps ignoring things because they are simply stupid. In the Netherlands, they found a huge gas bubble in the soil, somewhere in the sixties. Even then, a number of geologists warned the government that extracting all that gas would lead to earthquakes and sagging of the soil, with broken and damaged houses as a result. No one listened. Fast forward to 2022. The sagging of the soil and the earthquakes are routine. Government kept ignoring it till they couldn’t and there have been plans to compensate the people for many many years, but of course nothing substantial. They keep dragging the problem around and hoping it will maybe disappear on itself? Anyway nothing is being done.

Everything that's edible can be either good or bad for you. Depends on how your body is designed. What's healthy for me, can be harmful for someone else and vice versa. The main problem these days are the trans-fats. If you see " hydrogenated vegetable oil" in the ingredients, this contains trans fatty acids which afaik don't exist in nature so when you eat them, your body can't use them so they just sit there. Hopefully not in your arteries.

There are older ones. Once agriculture took off, larger societies of greater complexity began to emerge. Human intelligence has been the hallmark of our genus. But prior to about 12Kya, there were no "societies", just bands of hunters and gathers who were most likely, non-stationary (ie they moved around and didn't stay in one place for very long). But there's no reason to believe that they weren't as intelligent as we are now. Modern humans have a been around for ~250K years. There's no evidence to suggest we're any smarter now than 250Kya.

Of course. Many are simply limited to the tools of their time but that doesn't mean that they didn't have resources or ingenuity. Civilizations would not have advanced as far as it did. Likewise that remains true of our current civilization. The only difference so far as that we are plundering the resources of this world. There is this theory that ours is the civilization that is the last advancing one because of what we have done. By the time we die out, we'll have used too much of this planet so if another race crawls out, the farm age may be as far as they will be able to get.

Research found that in the five years after the start of decriminalization, illegal drug use by teenagers had declined, the rate of HIV infections among drug users had dropped, deaths related to heroin and similar drugs had been cut by more than half, and the number of people seeking treatment for drug addiction had doubled. Making all of it a crime is where the problems start.

LSD is a huge love for me, I had prescriptions for years and they made me distorted and prolonged my trauma etc. I remember one ‘anti psychotic’ drug made me paranoid (I’m not a paranoid person) I was standing on a balcony of a hotel I grew up in, and flipped out thinking the balcony was gonna fall off and we’d all die. So bad 😂 so I did acid a few times, heavy then sparingly, and never mixed it with other drugs or alcohol. My mindset has been amazing for the past 14 years, no relapses etc. I only did it for the one year and I’ve been so fine and mentally good ever since. I still attribute it (LSD) to the internal re- wiring of my whole being.

Used to be McDonalds crew and there are two things that'd knock it out of order. 1. The syrup needs changing. To change the syrup you need to open a pressurised container and get it in and out of a tangle of syrup lines, if one pops off it's a couple of hours cleaning. Only certain staff are trained to change out syrups and you never wanna do it during a rush as people will trip over you. 2. The shake mix ran out and you're either waiting for someone to get out the ladder to top it up, or its been topped up and your waiting for it to reach temp, takes around 45 mins. That whole machine is disassembled and cleaned every night, all removable bits left in sterilising solution over night and reassembled in the morning. That cleaning involves various runs of boiling water and cleaning solutions being run through the lines. This is in the UK.

The employees have to be trained to clean them and the responsibility falls onto the supervisor or manager. Those guys are usually working in the day when it's too busy. But some employees will just say it's down just because they don't want to use the clunky, fussy things. A better conspiracy I heard is the ice cream and shakes are not made with dairy, and are made with sawdust. I discovered it's not dairy after I decided I really wanted a shake despite being lactose intolerant. It didn't give me an upset stomach or indigestion like, say, Dairy Queen.

my teacher had a theory about this when someone started talking about aliens in class one day. he said that the way that they "time travelled" is by them being able to travel faster than light, using Einstein's theory of relativity, which would allow them to travel back in time, to our age. And the reason why they would want to do this is because there might be some sort of plague/pandemic which they can't seem to get rid of, and they need to figure out what went wrong, and that's why aliens abduct humans/cows. Needless to say, he was an interesting teacher, he actually didn't teach any conspiracies or force it upon people, and before he explained that theory, he said "IF aliens do exist"

There are 3 main reasons for the removal: First: waterproofing. The less openings the better. The first iPhone sold as water resistant was the 7. The first iPhone sold without a jack? The 7. Second: internally it takes up a lot of space that can be used for more gadgets or larger batteries Third: It saves them money on hardware. All of those plus the market trend showing people are going wireless anyway made them pull the trigger before any other manufacturer, knowing their customer base is loyal and will buy it anyway.

Actually it's incredibly hard to do, and it was a magnificent achievement. There were only six because Apollo 13 famously nearly didn't survive, and the funding was pulled for all the scheduled missions after Apollo 17. The entire "space race" was just an extended Cold War d*ck measuring contest, and once it had been well and truly won, there was no more political will to carry on. The fact that the tens of thousands involved managed to achieve something so incredible, and to contribute so much to science in that short time is remarkable beyond all words. In typical fashion, the U.S government had been receiving great criticism for the incredible cost of the Vietnam war, so rather than stop all the killing in a pointless war that was doomed to failure, they decided to end a project that was in full stride and that benefited the whole world, and say "look at the money we're saving".

Thought this was well known. Every terror group today is the result of US interference in one way or another. They either train them/supply them with Arms until they get too big for their boots and the US bumps them off which creates a vacuum for a terror group to survive and thrive or they are challenged. Prime example for the first point is Saddam Hussein (Taliban formed after the US got rid of him) and to the latter is Ghadafi, He was left alone to do what he wanted for 40 years until he stood up at a G8 (I believe) conference and publicly announced (school boy error) his intention to make the Dinah a direct world competitor to the US Dollar. Few months later, he is declared a bad egg by the US Government, bumped off and Boko Haram are on the rampage.

The Allies certainly knew about the Holocaust long before April/May 1945, they never just "happened" upon the camps as they were defeating Nazi Germany. The explanation is quite simple, yet very sad: Top government officers of the Allies did know about concentration and extermination camps, they just were not fully aware of the magnitude. In particular, Churchill, Stalin and Pope Pius XII certainly knew about the Holocaust. The Vatican was even given reports about it, but the Pope did nothing out of fear for reprisals against Catholics in the occupied territories (I have read letters by Pius XII stating that). Churchill and Stalin did not bomb them because they knew the camps were diverting Nazi resources which otherwise would go to the war. Finally, British Secret Services and the French and Polish resistance tried to assist, they even managed to organize a massive breakout out of Sobibor camp, but they desisted after realizing the German retaliations were brutal.

That there were two bullets that hit JFK on the fateful day of his assassination. But one of them was an accident by one of the secret service. I heard this theory on a Cracked podcast on YouTube. Story goes like this. Oswald was the only man out to harm JFK, but his bullet did not k*ll him, it severed his spinal cord which would have left him a vegetable. As aircraft engineer... I don't think you're right. Any fuel pollutes (even steam locomotives), that's for sure, but if you check how motors work in the heights which is 90%+ of flight you could understand how the aircrafts pollution is very insignificant comparing to other sources...

Nah, in the uk you can claim repairs from the local council if you can prove the pothole has been reported and not repaired previously - might slow folk down but then they open themselves up to costs of repairs/injuries etc - I don’t think that would be worth the possible reduced accident rate from slower drivers, in fact I doubt it slows people down much, people tend to not see them until it too late so they can cause accidents on top of the further costs

My problem with this is that my brother died from cancer. While he was in treatment, his doctor's (oncologist) child also was found to have cancer. My point is, the people who are claimed to be hiding the drug for profit also have families and those families also can become sick. So you're trying to say that they are letting their own children die of cancer so they can make more money? Even if its not the oncologists, the people making the vaccines also have kids...

Here's a true one. Car manufacturers are aware of fatal flaws but never bother to fix them. Like Vauxhall when the Corsa and Zafira would set on fire, trapping the driver inside due to the self locks. This was known, but it's cheaper for them to pay compensation to the victims than it is for them to change the entire line of cars. So they are aware of the risks but allowing people to die makes more financial sense.

Here's something I've never heard mentioned, so I'm going to take credit for the thought. If extraterrestrials visited our planet in ancient times, one has to consider they documented what they saw since they must've had the technology to record and store images. That means one day, if the aliens make themselves known, mankind might see the pyramids being built, footage of dinosaurs, or ancient Rome, among thousands of other images. One can only hope this is the case.

This post doesn't fall under the header of conspiracy, however this government ( it's the only one I have experience with) had designed our society to keep us in debt, to keep us working. Mortgages, credit cards, student loans, refinancing, monopolies, insurance premiums and many more than I can think of. Getting out of debt helps more than you know. Rule of thumb: if you have to charge it, you can't afford it, so don't. This brings peace and a piece of mind. Plus not having debt is very freeing. The fact that most of us, are just on paycheck or hospital bill from homelessness. Ive changed my mind. This is a conspiracy!!!

I know that you've got to take ancient history, especially that written by the Romans, with a grain of salt. A lot of foreign societies that we know about mostly from Roman writings were lied about to make the Romans think their own society was superior, that everyone else were 'barbarians'. They did this a LOT, to cement their supposed superiority. Back then, there was no way for people to know any better unless they travelled themselves. Remember: History is written by the victors. Another problem is later generations going in and changing things to suit them.
