Everyone's approach to life is different, but there are some things many of us agree on. For example, recent economic conditions have resulted in homeownership being less attainable, while the pandemic and the Great Resignation have made us realize the value of freedom, comfort, and flexibility. We understand that celebrities can't save us and that things need to change if we want to wake up with a smile on our faces in this ever-changing world. Interested in what that could be, Reddit user MustPlayVR made a post on the platform, asking people, "What needs to die out in 2024?" Here are some of the most popular answers, big and small.

"Influencers".
Kardashians - been going on for far too long.
The word unalive should unalive itself next year.
Layoffs while CEOs get paid 300x the average employee and still get a raise 5x the % of the average employee as well.
Lifetime politicians.
Counterpoint... It's possible that there's some merit in career politicians. How have we gotten to the point that any unqualified idiot that can get elected can run a country? There's something to be said for having the qualifications for the complex and nuanced job of administering a country/province/county/city, etc. That being said, I'll agree that lifetime appointments, (US Supreme Court Judge, or Canadian Senator come to mind), are probably not the best idea...
People who use their phone speakers in public
Why does anyone feel the need to do this? There is already so much I don't want to know about you . . . .
Corporations owning everything. Bring back independant businesses
Totally. Here's something for you to think about: Obediently using businesses that don't pay business tax, like Starbucks means that they don't contribute anything to society, like funding schools and hospitals, whereas if you bought your coffee from reputable places that do pay tax, we'd have better services.
“Accept all cookies” as the only option
Unaffordable housing prices
We can wish, but we are (the majority of us) stuck in this hell forever . . . .
politicians being able to lie with impunity
That is because you don't have a functioning press. Journalists are supposed to call out the politicians by asking critical questions, not just be a mic-holder that uncritically helps spread their hollow promises and baseless accusations.
Gender reveal parties where they start forest fires just to announce their unborn child’s gender like seriously, just send a text to everyone saying “it’s a boy/girl”
Social media "challenges" to break the law or hurt people.
Ought to be a way to punish the websites that encourage this. TikTok, I'm looking at you.
Tipping culture
Let the rich tip. I don't have the money to spare with these crazy high prices. so I don't go anywhere that tips are customary.
If people are gonna just expect tips for absolutely no reason, then they should also expect me to haggle down on the price of products and services for absolutely no reason.
I refuse to use DoorDash or GrubHub for the simple reason I am expected to tip PRIOR to them providing a service. Do you tip your hairdresser BEFORE you get your hair cut? Do you tip your waiter BEFORE he even takes your order? Of course not. I will drive to our favorite pizza place and pick up the order myself. Gal at the counter LITERALLY turns around, takes FOUR steps, gets my pizza out of the warming oven and takes FOUR steps back to the counter. I put my card in the machine and click "No Tip". She gets this really pissy look on her face, but before she can say a word I put up my hand and said, "Don't bother. You did absolutely nothing worthy of a tip. Nothing. A trained monkey could have handed me a pizza".
I'm Australian,we don't have a "Tip Culture" because we have a minimum wage of $23.23 per hour or $882.80 per week and universal healthcare.IF we tip someone here it's for really exemplary service.
I honestly don't know how to tip anymore because it's ubiquitous and, as different services grow, it's becoming more confusing. I had a delivery tonight. Just a bag and my signature. No heavy lifting or traveling to a remote location. But did I tip him properly?
Call your congressional representative and demand that food service workers be paid full wages.
Then don't tip. Yes, people will think you are an a*****e because you are acting like one. After all, actions are more profound than words. It sucks that this is the true price of commerce in America, but here we are. The system sucks, everybody knows it, and we are all trapped in it together. I would think this would be the easiest thing to help out other people who working their a*s off and getting nowhere.
Some of us live on that & it's a complete life line. I actually enjoy the benefits of it.
It's very simple. If you choose not to tip, feel free to do so. HOWEVER, kindly announce at the START of the transaction /interaction, that you will not be tipping. This bar, restaurant, coffee shop, etc... Is not a hospital. I am under absolutely no obligation to serve you. Next, please. When you slowly realize that you are getting absolutely no service, or the barest minimum, you'll change your tune. Because face it, you're not "standing up for the underpaid", you're just cheap. Cook at home, and get a six pack from 7-11. Problem solved, cheapskate. 😊
The family who created the Subway chain is worth BILLIONS. It seems to me that any business that cannot or will not pay its employees a living wage, should absolutely not be in business.
Load More Replies...Under tipping culture, the rude customers pay less than their fair share while a lot of well behaved customers pay extra, so no, actually.

The tumor cells in every cancer patient
People being offended by everything and anything
MAGA. Vote them out or be subjugated by these Christofascist loons.
Gun Violence
Guns in general, with the exeption of those who acutally need such tools in their daily lives, e.g. hunters, hikers (in bear-land) or farmers that must protect their flock from wolves etc. They are not toys, and can be dangerous when uneducated people handle them incorrectly, or don't think things all the way through.
Pumping in more and more advertisements into...*everything*, even premium/paid monthly subscriptions/streaming. Sports are taking longer and longer due to more ads. More ads are being injected into everything.
It's hard to imagine most ads are even effective at all. How many people have bought an item or service based on advertising? If anything it makes me more likely to not buy it, especially if the ad is particularly annoying or way overplayed.
Also, ad agencies used to put much more effort into ads/commercials. Commercials were never a good thing, but some used to be slightly funny or entertaining at least.
I agree to this plus mobile phone ads that blatantly lie about the content of the app they are advertising
Influencers filming themselves “helping” others, you’re not helping them, you’re exploiting them for your own gain.
Filming everything. Filming at the gym. Playing phone speakers out loud in public. Price gouging. Rent hikes. Stagnated wages.
Gyms are making themselves a no filming zone now because of the amount of trouble it causes. Two of our local gyms have put a lifetime ban on anyone caught filming on their premises
Homelessness
yes, its very bad near my school, and every corners is filled with people with signs, and tents underneath the highways. its sad,
Greed, it's the main reason for a lot of bad things currently happening on our planet.
unfortunately you won't convince the rich to stop being rich. They believe that it is in the correct hands in their own hands. and that giving it away to people it would be fettered away on useless things. No we plebians are too stupid to have money and be equal. Must stay squashed and quiet under the boot of capitalsim,
Conflicts that date back to the Bible
Organized religion in all of its forms always leads to violence. You want to worship magic space man in your own house that is fine, but stop talking about who has the better one in public. No one f*****g cares about your own internal delusions and the stockholm syndrome ticks you have developed from being indoctrinated into the largest cult on Earth. STFU.
Corrupt politicians and billionaires
The corrupt US is run by the oligarchy!! reboot the entire corrupt system!!!
Lip and cheek injections - women are so beautiful yet they are trying so hard to look like filters. I truly wish they could be happy without that influence.
Plastic surgery should only be done for medical aid and not to just look better
EVERYTHING BEING CROPPED. Jesus christ i hate cropped things. If i find a cute shirt it’s cropped, cute jacket? it’s cropped. cute sweater? ITS CROPPED. i don’t care if people wear it but ITS EVERYWHERE.
There’s no point in cropping a jacket or a jumper. Hard to imagine people who want a frozen stomach because of odd fashion
Daylight Savings. The one thing everyone can agree on.
I 100% do NOT agree with this statement. The shifting of a human invention (clock) to accommodate the significant natural changes in hours of daylight between seasons, especially the farther from the equator you live, makes complete sense. Why is anyone opposed to it? It's too difficult to do two day of the year? If that is so difficult, how do you function? Can you tie your shoes? Travel to a different time zone??!!? Oh my God, the horror!
Probably about half of the US political leaders. A bunch of out of touch rich dinosaurs should not be making decisions for us
Still using covid as an excuse for everything going wrong. "We're understaffed because of covid" "Prices are up because of covid" "We're out of bread at the grocery store because covid affecting the suppliers" yea that last one was personal
They are understaffed due to covid. People seem to start valuing themselves higher (like you know, what their time might actually be worth) after covid and big boss billionaire doesn't want to shell out money for the post covid economy
People that facetime over their phone speaker in public
I keep telling my dad to either hold the phone to his ear or text but he’d rather have a facetime out in public in front of everyone
Getting bullied for having a different opinion
And claiming to have been bullied just because people dared to disagree with you.
Cancel culture, specifically when it is about something that happened ages ago, at a time that behavior was not considered problematic
I question this one as a generalisation. Even if child abuse and date rape were "acceptable" or at least not talked about in public until rather recently, that's no reason to ignore how they impacted people, as well as the people who claimed they were just "edgy" during the heyday os these practices.
Subscription services. But they won’t. They’ll keep replacing single upfront purchases. It’s a shame.
Yep, I stopped updating my windows when they tried out the concept of making it a subscription. It is a sneaky way to slowly drain people's accounts without them noticing it, so I am very carefull with anyone offering that kind of "service".
Remakes.
sorry remakes make sense guys I had to say it ( I know ill be downvoted but honestly I don´t care)
Income inequality.
Granted, some professions deserve to earn more money than others; however, when CEOs are raking in obscene amounts of money and NOT PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES while the people doing all the actual work are pinching pennies till Abraham Lincoln begs for mercy, that is not acceptable!
Many people have voiced frustrations about outdated and frustrating norms that should be left behind as we move forward.
To gain more perspective, readers might find it helpful to review discussions on common practices and habits that have outlived their usefulness in the modern era by exploring the list of things people hope to leave behind.
Sports betting or atleast the f*****g ad blitz. My state just allowed sports betting in the past couple years. Let me tell you, I have never seen a non substance addiction hit a state so f*****g hard. A lot of people I know are gambling addicts who don't want to admit it. It's only getting worse, too. I hope we get some documentaries on this initial wave of allowing sports betting. I think we have atleast another decade of this before they start regulating it a little better. However, I think what ever regulation occurs, it'll be too little too late and it won't help.
Political extremism
The problem is that no one considers themselves to be a political extremist. It's those crazies over there who disagree with me that are out in left field.
Strong opinions on things we are too lazy to research.
I still do it, I try to rethink important issues and say have I honestly researched this or am I just saying what I heard someone else say.
You need to see both sides of an issue - and maybe three or more sides. However, if you stick to your side, you are not necessarily being pig-headed; and if you change your mind, you are not necessarily wishy-washy.
Reaction videos.
I enjoy videos where an actual lawyer or doctor critiques the level of accuracy on a television show.
Distance from others. Nobody really talks or hangs out anymore since most people just talk on the phone or play video games. I'm guilty of this too, but I wish I hung out with my buddies more.
I play board games and DnD, and am in an irl book club. I love couch gaming too, although I also don't mind just playing with them online, which the op doesn't really clarify in this post if they are only counting irl hangouts
Advertising outside of actual storefronts. I don't think people realize how much damage the ad industry does. If you really think about it, most of the current political instability can be attributed to advertisment profit incentives to sensationalize the news and promote hysteria on social media. Killing ads would completely change the media landscape and seriously alter our way of life.
I am glad that I live in a country where road side advetising has been outlawed, so at least we don't get those ugly and distracting bill boards all over the place, and people can focus on driving their cars and not read ads.
Adult angst. I'm really tired of people making bigoted laws because they're imagining people being mean to them like we're all still 14 and in high school.
Wow. Thanks for saying that my extreme anxiety that can leave me gasping for air is childish, I didn't realize that D: I will fix that for ya, I clearly just haven't tried that before /s
Having to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke/ vape. People will light up in doorways or blocking paths so you have no other option but to walk through it. Nearly walked into the back of a guy who abruptly stopped to light up the moment he left the hospital doors.
Conditional masculinity/feminity. Basically letting whoever your partnering with be the key to unlocking your “masculine energy” or “divine feminine”. You sound like an idiot.
Wokeness. Not caring about people who are disadvantaged and downtrodden and treated unfairly. We need to do even more for that. Just the part where all white people are evil and all trans / minorities / are perfectly moral monoliths and people act like they’ve attained virtue because they retweeted #BLM on their anonymous twitter feed. Less of that and more judging people not by the color of their skin or their sex, but rather by the content of their character.
Where to begin! The KKK, neo-Nazis, nuclear weapons, flat-earthers, creationists, child molesters, tax breaks for the rich and big corporations, jerks who lollygag on two-lane highways but floor it as soon as you get a chance to pass, preachers who get rich off their profession (and don't pay any taxes), animal abusers, corporate monopolies, factory farms, forced-birth activists (where the [bleep] are they once the children are born?), terrorists, for-profit health care - somebody stop me!
Can I include Boredpanda doing articles that are in reality nothing but a whole advertising section for Amazon, that needs to go.
The chit chat portion of Jeopardy! It’s awkward and cringe, nobody likes it, and they could squeeze in a whole third round of competition.
Literally chit chat in any game show just about. I don't mind oh this is my name, i have so and so as family, I work here, and I would do this if I win. Any game show I try to watch today though literally spends more time talking about them than the actual gameplay
