It’s oddly satisfying to be a hater. Whether it’s pineapple on pizza, reality TV, or that one coworker who always talks over everyone—it just feels so good to vent about what bothers us.

But according to folks under this Reddit thread, some things get more flak than they deserve and could use a little more love. Scroll down to see what they had to say, upvote the ones you agree with, and let us know in the comments if there’s anything else you think deserves more appreciation!

In my area, this is directly connected with tradition and religion. You are seen as useless and even "cursed" if you don't have children. You are blamed, shamed, isolated, pitied. That's why religious people should keep their beliefs to themselves. It's your decision if you wish to have 20 children, but don't preach me about "God's will" or my "biological role".

The passive agressive "Oh. I see. Well..." and then the inevitable conversation about how you can't possibly mature as a person until you understand and experience parenthood. These are often the same people who blame everyone else for their problems and when their children break rules and hurt others, then blame the others.

Hate is a powerful and complex feeling. Interestingly, there is no clear consensus among scholars about its exact nature. Some describe hate as an emotion, others see it as an attitude or sentiment, and still others regard it as a blend of anger, contempt, and disgust. While some researchers think hate is simply an extreme form of anger or dislike, many believe it to be a distinct and unique experience altogether.

But why do we experience it? To find out, Bored Panda reached out to Clara Pretus, a psychology professor and researcher in social neurosciences, and the director of the Social Brain Lab.

“We hate things that we perceive as posing an existential threat to us,” Pretus explains. “This could be a physical threat—something that puts our life at risk—or a symbolic threat, something that endangers our values and way of life.”

She goes on to say, “Our response to hate is to either avoid or eliminate the object of our hate because we don't believe it will ever stop being a threat. This is different from anger; when we’re angry at someone, we’re still giving them a second chance, believing they can change. With hate, the sense of danger is so strong that it activates our fight or flight response, preparing us to either attack or defend ourselves.”

I don’t downrate people for making mistakes. I downrate them for being unwilling to admit it. I much more readily trust a person who’s willing to say “I was wrong” or “I made a mistake” than one who bullheadedly insists that they’re never wrong and have never made mistakes. ETA: I also downrate people who won’t accept people who admit to their mistakes.

This defense mechanism is evident in the brain. A neuroimaging study by Professor Semir Zeki and John Romaya of the Wellcome Laboratory of Neurobiology at UCL showed that looking at the faces of people we hate activates areas of the premotor cortex, which prepares us for action. It also activates the insula, a brain region linked to internal bodily states, including disgust. “This area also activates in response to romantic love, which may explain why people say there’s a thin line between love and hate,” says Pretus.

Zeki adds, “The putamen, another brain area, could also be involved in preparing for aggressive acts, even in a romantic context, like when a rival poses a threat. Previous studies suggest the insula is engaged by distressing stimuli, and seeing both a loved and a hated face might trigger such a response.”

He further explains, “One marked difference between love and hate is that, while love deactivates large parts of the cerebral cortex associated with judgment and reasoning, hate only deactivates a small area in the frontal cortex. This might seem surprising since hate can also be an all-consuming passion, like love. But in romantic love, the lover is often less critical, while in hate, the hater may become more judgmental, calculating moves to harm or seek revenge.”

There actually is a point where the amount of sleep becomes too much—not so much because the sleep itself is harmful, but because excessive sleeping is a symptom of a wide variety of physical and mental conditions. If you’re sleeping ten to twelve hours or more on a daily basis for any significant period of time, you should discuss it with your doctor.

My favorite way of "thinking" is when I lay down in bed on my back. If I meditated and emptied my mind out, I'd be praised. But if I lay down in bed, I'm told I'm lazy. But I am thinking. Thinking of things to do, scenarios that will never come true, phones calls I have to make and what to say, passages of books I might write, how I'm going to do some projects, changing and building dollhouse I have, etc. A lot gets accomplished when I just lay down and think. Pretus’s work focuses on how political extremism impacts decision-making, particularly in polarized environments. She studies how extreme social identities and moral values influence political beliefs, the spread of misinformation, and the willingness to engage in political violence.

Another aspect of her research explores the rise of hate crimes. While we understand some factors behind these crimes, what people perceive and experience as “hate” at a psychological level is still a gray area.

In one of her studies, Pretus explored the role of morality in hate. Her team analyzed the language used on prominent hate websites and complaint forums, finding that hate sites contained more words related to morality, not just negativity, compared to the complaint forums.

“Morality guides our decisions and actions because it defines what we believe is right and wrong,” Pretus says. “Our moral values, like honesty, justice, and respecting traditions, are a big part of who we are. When someone acts in a way that threatens those values, it can spark hate because it feels like an existential threat to our identity. Hate then prepares us to either eliminate or escape from the source of that threat.”

It’s clear that hate is a deeply personal feeling, shaped by our experiences and values. But we couldn’t resist asking Pretus if there’s one thing people often hate that she thinks deserves more love.

“I would say Mondays,” she shares. “I’ve never hated Mondays, but maybe that’s because I really like my job.”

As someone in retail, I know somewhat the kind of stresses they can deal with. If ever I notice something is off, I just calmly and politely let the fast food worker know there's a mistake, and ask if it can be redone.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate Pineapple on pizza! It gets so much hate, but honestly, the sweet and salty combo is pretty solid. It’s not for everyone, but the amount of outrage it causes is way over the top for a simple pizza topping. Let people enjoy their food!

I know. We walked into a restaurant yesterday my SIL recommended that had a great menu that my husband knew would be perfect for my picky mom and my more healthy and adventurous tastes. When we walked in the signboard highlighted their spinach and strawberry salad w/chicken special and she thought that the strawberry idea was stupid. But that was one of the things I was torn between getting! My husband used to be a picky eater until he met me. Now he will try almost anything within reason.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate Pensioners. I’m fed up of defending myself on Reddit for the crime of being old. The venom thrown at pensioners is totally disgusting and would create a lifetime ban if it was directed at any other group/ colour/ religion.
Please stop generalising that all boomers are wealthy. Yeah, some are and I’m as jealous as the next person, with my pathetic pension. I’ve worked all my life, but did not have the means to have a huge pension pot. I did have a house, but was forced out by an abusive ex husband. I’m single but still have to pay full bills and the rent is almost half my income. This year, it’s eating or heating. I’m not moaning- just stating facts and I’m certainly not alone in this situation. It’s hard being poor, but even harder reading the hatred ….

This is so true. It seems like people don't realise that they are going to get old. You don't have a choice! And It's partly the way society now views elderly people as redundant instead of allowing them a measure of respect like they used to receive.

All the time I see people getting insulted because they show kindness to others and good deeds are belittled, a few years back by denigrating them as "do gooders", then by speaking immediately of "helper syndrome" even if the person has only shown a little act of kindness or now using the word "woke" when people care about those in need or oppose discrimination.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate Men who are in touch with their feelings and they express them. Men who are sensitive are constantly put down due to toxic masculinity. Both men and women s**t on guys who exteriorize their emotions uninhibitedly in a gentle kindhearted manner and deem them unmanly, describe them as too feminine, plus many other more grotesque words and phrases. And crying is viewed as a sign of weakness.

Women have emotions. Men do too. It’s indisputable that all humans have emotions. High emotional availability is something that should absolutely not be seen as exclusive to any specific gender, age or race. It’s a universal human condition. It’s nothing to be ashamed of and NO ONE should be belittled or bullied for having or displaying completely valid and sincere emotions nor for possessing the ability to communicate them.

I was volunteering to serve hot lunch at my son’s school. When he came through the line, he stepped behind the counter quick, kissed me on the side of the head, and said, “thanks mom. Love you!” Another volunteer was just staring at me. Finally she asked, “how’d you get him to do that?” I shrugged. Said, “he doesn’t know any better”. He’s a 6’1” senior. My boys are huggers, talkers, and criers. And if they choose to become parents, I hope they never stop being affectionate, never miss an opportunity to share something kind that they are thinking, and never feel shame over emotion.

Just watched two hour-long Nova specials about dogs and cats. There's actually been a fair amount of research - various behavioral tests, MRI's etc. The result was clear. Dogs care more about people than cats do. Which is not to say that cats don't care, but they are actually more motivated by food. They are also closer to their wild ancestors than dogs are. And wild cats are all more or less solitary, while dogs' wolf ancestors are of course pack animals. The MRI's actually showed the approval and affection are more important to dogs than food is. It's not hard to believe these results if you think about the differences between dog and cat behavior.

True, but there's a spectrum in both animals. There are extremely loving, mushy cats and there are aloof, independent cats. Dogs tend to be on the loving side, but there are dogs that can be aloof as well.

Generalization of course, but dogs often see us humans as gods and themselves as children of the gods, while cats see themselves as gods, and us humans as servants to the gods. Cats are like libertarians - "absolutely convinced of their fierce independence while utterly dependent on a system they don't appreciate or understand".

Dogs have been with us for 30.000 years, cats just about 9.000. Our relationships are different and they're very different animals. But cats love us and want to be with us too. They just have a different way to show it. I think it's not fair they have that bad reputation.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate Skunks

When I was growing up, I had a friend who's father was a Vet. He was brought an abandoned skunk kit. He removed the scent glands and they kept it as a pet. It was an extremely friendly animal and loved everyone. But it still had the reaction to turn around and raise it's tail if frightened. I went to the lake with them one year, and a burglar broke into their home. He ran into Flower (Yes, their kids named the skunk) and screamed. Flower was frightened and turned around and raised her tail. He panicked and ran into a brick wall at full speed, knocking himself out. Apparently, Flower, liking people, curled up on his chest and went to sleep. That's how we found him when we got back. He was awake, and completely freaked out, whispering to us "Help me!". Their dad left him there under Flower's care until the cops got there. Him in the house, and his car outside half loaded with the family's stuff made it a simple arrest. And Flower got lots of love and affection after that.

I fed a skunk on my back porch for a long time. She brought a baby with her one time. I never tried to approach as that would not be wise but she wasn't aggressive but her baby sure was. They eventually moved on. We named her Annie and made sure she had food especially when it was cold.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate Gen Z. There's nothing wrong with them they're just being young and immature because they ARE young. They're not "doomed" again they're being young and participating in fads just like you did. The stuff you did when you were their age was just as dumb, just as cringeworthy and made the older generations "lose faith" in. Then what happened? You grew up and matured.

The stuff that's catered towards them isn't dumbed down or soulless or basic or mind numbing. It's just catered towards a young demographic, which you are not. You aren't the target audience, that's why you don't get it. You're not meant to as it's not for you.

Millennials got the same hate, as did Gen X and Boomers and so on. And they all grew up, eventually Gen Z will and then everyone will hate on Gen Alpha for [damaging] whatever industries and being entitled and not knowing what real work is and whatever buzzwords people always use to hate on the latest generation of youths.

Also while I'm at it, people "glued to their phones" there's this weird assumption that if I or any other person under 40 is on their phone they're just rotting their brain or d**king around or are on social media. First of all everyone looks at their phones not just Gen Z and Millennials. Second of all a phone these days is an everything in one device. It's a calender, it gives you the time, it gives you news, it allows you to send important emails, read books, look at timetables, write notes. Someone "glued to their phone" could be doing any of that kind of stuff.

If you didn't give people in the past s**t for constantly reading books, reading a newspaper, writing their schedule for the day. looking at their watch and so on, why are you giving people, particularly young people, s**t now for it? Because the platform they do that stuff has changed? Everyone still does that stuff. The only thing that's changed is the platform: It's all now on a phone. Think about that the next time you're on a bus or subway and see everyone "glued to their phones".

Hating on us will not make us thinner. It's a higher risk that the hate will make us depressed and eat comfort food and become even more overweight. We need scientific help, just like with high blood-pressure and other ailments. Most overweight people have lost A LOT of weight over the years, but it sneaks back on again, and bring their friends.

So many people treat being overweight as a personality flaw instead of a medical circumstance. It *may* have been a result of poor choices, but we all make poor choices. Once one is overweight, losing weight is rarely simply a matter of willpower. The human metabolism is tuned to preserve fat stores as essential fuel resources, and to seek out sugar and fat (not as plentiful in natural food as in ultraprocessed food) as ready fuel. Meanwhile, the food industry is tuned to keep us eating whatever they’re pushing, so they load so much of it with excess sugars and fats to trigger that instinct.

My last bf was quite overweight, but was less so when we met. My concern was that he was diabetic and did not follow his doctor's instructions. He'd pick up his meds, then just throw them in a cupboard. He ate loads of junk "food" and never tested his blood sugar. We were over 60, and I couldn't take it anymore.

My only ever criticism of overweight people is the burden they put on healthcare services. But I have no problem with an individual, more the collective acceptance that it's perfectly "normal" - but what they mean is it's common to be overweight. It's not a good thing if it's medically able not to be.

I have to say I've had an iphone for years (I keep them for ages until they completely die) and always thought they were amazing and worth the extra cost. I've recently bought a really cheap android for a work phone (was under £80) and can't believe how good it is. Cost around a tenth of my iphone and so far it's just as useable. So I'm seriously considering a change. I do think a lot of the "iphone/android is better" argument comes from people just being comfortable with whatever they are familiar with.

Eh, the thing is we keep the wrong type of bees. Most indigenous bee populations are suppressed and endangered by the 'domestic' honeybee type we keep. But while the populations we keep make a lot of honey, and honey is money, they are also vulnerable to certain illnesses and have little protection against predators outside their natural habitat. And we ruin the ones we keep by sticking them to mono culture plants. Because everybody needs their agave honey, no matter how bad it is for bee health. But there are other pollinators, bee's are not the only ones out there. Plants will not all die out without bees, but honey prices will go up.

Without bees to pollinate the plants that provide us with food, the global food supply would collapse. You just can't pollinate by hand in enough quantities to keep everyone alive. Some plants are wind-pollinated but bees are generally considered to be absolutely essential to life on earth.

Same age I got diagnosed. Just the diagnosis itself was life-changing. Now I know how to work around what I thought were bad habits, but are just symptoms.

It's because people don't view it as a mental illness, but as "bad memory and impatience", when sometimes you actually procrastinate eating and drinking for 24 hours.

I have suffered with mental health illness my whole life I was diagnosed with a plethora of mental health illnesses at like 13 years old it was put on every medication known to man for those diseases and nothing ever worked and in fact there was terrible terrible side effects for most of them and then when I was and my thirties I saw a new doctor and they immediately told me that I had ADHD they put me on a medication for it and my life was changed within days it's lifesaving for somebody that actually has ADHD and anybody that says otherwise does not have ADHD and ADHD is way more then not being able to sit still or forgetting something sometimes I literally go into straight paralysis mentally and couldn't move if I was on fire that's just one of the top five most awful parts about it they don't give you enough room for me to tell you all that but yeah and yeah college kids use it if you don't have ADHD and you take the medication IT wires you if you do have ADHD it calms you

I agree. It is illogical to say you hate vegan food unless all you eat is meat (which I would hope no human does). And as for hating Vegans, I wouldn't say hate, but I think the dislike comes in when people believe that they are pushing their ideas on them (which may or may not be true). Like many things in life, people need to respect other people's choices and not try to push them on others, but the truth is that is what people on both sides try to do. That is the real problem.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate I still don't really get why being considered woke is bad or why something being woke is bad. I don't really get how when a black person appears in a TV show, now it's considered "woke" but in the 2000s it wasn't? For example how is current day Power Rangers woke but Mighty Morphin Power Rangers not when it had the same kinda diverse cast? I genuinely just don't get it.

It's like those people on Youtube ranting about X-Men 97 "It's woke!!! ITS WOOOKKE!!" Yeah? And? It was still pretty good. Everyone I know who watched it liked it too. And on top of that what the f**k did you EXPECT from the X-Men? They did no different to any previous X-Men stuff regarding the mutant thing. Only cause now it's 2024 it's "woke"

In fact, I don't really know what "woke" even is I constantly get a different answer every time. Feels like it's such an overused buzzword now that's used as basically "I don't like it" I think I've seen everything get called woke at this point.

Seriously, you afraid you're gonna burst into flames if you watch something woke?

The literal point of X-Men is that people who are different to the main stream should be included. The fact that people now feel comfortable freaking out and saying that's unacceptable should show you how far back we fell.

From what I understand it's a term to mean AWARE aware of social injustices especially pertaining to minorities...so if it means aware why would you not want to be aware? the people that misuse that word are clearly not aware, don't want to be aware and live in their delusions

This is the actual definition. Being aware, having your eyes opened (being awakened - hence woke). Now it's just turned into something people toss out to complain when they don't like the race or gender of a fictional character

“Woke” is just the latest conservative catch-all boogeyman. When I was a kid, “communist” served the same purpose. Conservativism thrives on fear, so it requires an enemy. How real that enemy is is irrelevant. There simply must be a “them”.

My complaint is not that TV shows are "woke", but that they're woke for woke's sake. Having a diverse cast is awesome; but don't switch cast members just to pander to the general public. Do it to add depth to the plot. Not because everyone else is doing it.

Be warned though, if I have been eating them then the air around me will not be fit for breathing for at least two days. Frozen sprouts however, probably come from Satans bottom and should be avoided.

30 Things That Aren’t Bad Or Wrong At All But Get So Much Hate It seems like when people imagine an adult who lives with their parents they just picture some unemployed unattractive balding fat guy who plays video games all day like what cartoons and sitcoms would have you believe. I've seen people literally raging in reddit posts about adult children who live at home with hundreds of people calling them "pieces of s**t" and "moochers" in the most casual way I've seen. Some of the adult children mentioned in the posts aren't even 20 yet and expected to already know how to do everything on their own. It's so weird to me that the first assumption people have is that they must be lazy and entitled or coddled, and not that they could be going through something mentally or need the right kind of guidance.

I'm 40 and moved in with them, living on an entire floor and I'm not a mooch, nor am I a fat balding guy! I did this to help them out financially and physically, as they're growing older and they also have a vegetable garden and some chickens! My boomerang will be 33 this week and we share a house. He works in civil construction. His partner stays when she has a late work finish. They split their time between our home, her home and her family's bach on the coast. We share expenses and chores which leaves us all with more play money. It works for us and I'm positive there are other, equally happy, fully functional multi generational families.

In the country I live in, most families are close knit. Unless someone is leaving the country to study or work abroad, we generally stay with our parents until we are stable enough to move. A lot of families also encourage extending the family house/property so that the child(ren) can have a place to live without being too far from the family. And most children actually help their parents with bills. Sure, we take time to become fully autonomous but by the time we do leave our parents house, we are financially stable, no debts, money saved to acquire assets. AND we also get to care and support our parents while they are ageing and more prone to health issues. I think its a win win rather than just throwing your kids out as soon as they turn 18.

I'm in my mid-thirties. I have two friends currently living with their parents who just got out of abusive relationships - being abused CHANGES YOUR CELLS, your body, the way you react to the world, etc. If they didn't have parents nearby - I'm sure they'd find something, but why not take that love and support? I have another friend who moved in with his mom when his dad died - she needs support. The last friend was in his mid-forties when he fell off a roof and seriously injured himself. Him and his widowed father live together and take care of eachother. All four work, hold down jobs, and lived on their own successfully for some time before moving back in with their parents.

Some picky eaters are also autistic or adhd people who just can't eat some foods based on texture. We also prefer to eat our "comfort food" which is food we know and view as a "safe zone", which is why you often see people ordering mashed potatoes and nuggets, pasta all the time, or basic pizza.

I guess that I would be considered to be a picky eater. However, I developed a gum decease when I was a teenager and had to have all of my teach removed. So, I am not picky, I simply cannot chew a lot of foods. I get very embarrassed by people asking about my eating habits which means that I rarely eat out in public with other people. Don't judge people until you know the reason why they are doing what they are doing.

The only issue I had with a picky eater was a former co-worker. I told him to pack a lunch for the holiday season, as I'd need extra hands to help load up orders and possibly man the cash register, but he'd always go out to McDonald's for lunch... and would often stay out later than his allotted lunch break time. I don't have an issue if people are picky eaters due to dietary reasons, or due to a food allergy.

Some people are "Tasters" or "Supertasters" and cannot handle certain foods, especially items that are bitter or spicy. I, personally, have an issue with bitter foods, such as brussel sprouts. When cooked certain ways, I can tolerate them. I'm also very sensitive to textures, so eating certain foods such as mushrooms and raw onions are nearly impossible for me.

Not just 'girly' books. When we were iniddle school, I suggested my brother read a series I enjoyed about a girl who pretended to be a boy to learn to be a knight. It was just the type of book he would like, but he refused to read it because the main character was a girl.

OMG the Twilight craze and the hate it got (I personally love Twilight and don't care what people say). Or 50 Shades of Gray. Holy c**p did those get hate! It's totally fine if you didn't like these books, or had no desire to read them, but why hate on someone for enjoying something?

The problem with 50 Shades is that it’s a straight person describing an abusive relationship as BDSM.

I don't think the issue is SAHMs. It's the influencers who try to act as if they are better than other people for living a trad lifestyle and also tend to be monetizing (and traumatizing) their children. They also tend to be anti-science and everything that goes with that. My stepdaughter is a SAHM and my only worry is that she won't have a retirement fund she has built.

My mom did. A single mom, divorcee in the 1960's when it was absolutely frowned on. She rode 2 busses every day to work in a factory and consequently missed the first day of school and those related firsts in order to provide a home for us. Screw people who hate on moms attempting to make homes for their families. Again, MYOFB.

My husband took the year's parental leave with each of our kids and it worked well for us. Some people looked at me askance when I said that's what we were doing but I work from home and could take a few months out from my projects and was on hand to breastfeed for a year with each child. Our children have a great relationship with him and it's been a balm for both of us to right the wrongs of the past. It's a crying shame that not all dads (or mums even!) have the same opportunity afforded to them.

Zipper merging doesn't work where I am (San Francisco Bay Area) because we have too many rude people. For zipper merge to work the people on the highway have to open a spot in front of them when they get to the merge point. Whereas some will do this, more than just a few will refuse to do it unless the merging car forces the nose of their car in forcing everyone to stop. These rude people someone believe that if they are one car ahead, they have won some kind of contest.

I could be wrong about you, and if so, I apologize in advance. The way you state this comes across as you being one of those people that see a "merge right" sign and a long line of traffic in the right lane, and still go all the way to the end of the left lane to merge. That, to me is line jumping and rude. If there is a long line of cars in one lane, that means they have already merged and you are just jumping the queue.

It's also a safe bet that a large number of these men were this way BEFORE having families. I agree that a lot of people use gaming to shirk their responsibilities, but people need to choose better partners and who they decide to procreate with. The gaming isn't the issue. It's the person with the lack of self control.

I always use Comic sans or a similar rounded letters font for my notes because its spacing makes it so much easier to read at a quick glance. Fonts like Times New Roman gives me an eye strain when used on a page with a lot of small quick note points which are how most of my notes are.

World has gone backwards especially since a swathe of right wingers and their rich backers swept into power after the financial crisis. None of the banks or bankers were adequately punished for their mismanagement. Odd how the me too and child abuse celebrities blew up to overshadow the enquiries that should have occurred. Misdirected the public attention. Now rich wankers like Musk and Bezos send their wank rockets into space like a biggest d**k contest instead of paying staff a decent wage. Wealth never did trickle down. IMO the rich need to be paying a LOT back to mankind.

Note I worked for a company that has lots of Chinese in it and we would at times go to Chinese restaurants nearby (and in the SF Bay Area these are "authentic") so the Tofu dishes I was served were cooked by people that knew how to cook it, it wasn't me cooking it wrong.

There are also several different kinds of tofu. Some kinds of pressed tofu are different and then there's silken tofu, which is an entirely different beast. But we all like what we like!

People who 'try tofu and hate it' - ... many times you find that they didn't even try cooking it correctly - like.. the concept of "you need to add **something** to it as part of the cooking" is alien to them. Like, no, if you just boil it in plain water then try to eat it, sure.. it's not going to taste all that great, now is it? Geez.

It's the same people who "tried Tofu and hate it", unfamiliar or even opposing towards adding anything, that have elaborate and long processes of adding taste to meat that they religiously follow. It's ... two measures. One "needs spices to taste good" and one "deserves to be treated that way to taste good". No. In this, only this single regard, there's no difference - it's your tastebuds that are worth it or not, not the dish. The dish deserves to taste good to you.

The Stranglers were great before Golden Brown. Golden Brown was great. The Stranglers remained great, Always The Sun didn't change that, and the lesser known songs of them ... still are great. Underrated band, because, while both songs mentioned are in fact good songs, but sadly, only those two are really commonly known. "Down in the Sewer" and "Toiler on the Sea", being my two most liked songs of theirs, may be worth a listen ... you certainly hear them being fans of The Shadows in these. The Shadows ... great? Great. Popular? Yes. So? So ... so. So? Yes, we got this, I think we got this. "Paranoid", either, isn't Black Sabbath's worst song, although it tended to be overplayed at times. It's very untypical of their work, but the best known ... and, still a great one. Same goes for "Iron Man", although that's very typical of theirs. Or so.

It has always been thus with music -- in the big band era, if you liked Glenn Miller's music (rather than, say, Duke Ellington's), you were thought of as milquetoast, because it was "made for the masses"... but both are really great.

The reason I dislike self checkouts is because if I have discounted items, I usually have to wait for a sales rep/cashier to authorize the discount. And if that happens, it takes longer than waiting in line. Whereas if I'm in a checkout line, the cashier can approve the discount while scanning the item.

... another time, profit trumps social responsibility. Companies play different roles in society, and one is providing a source of income for the people working there. This, by self-checkout, is greatly reduced and, IMO, shouldn't be supported, but met with boycott at best. Some people earn their rent and livelihood at the checkout ... one person per queue, usually ... or one per six queues, that has to overlook the customers not stealing, the machines not failing, ... why deprive people of their income? So that Aldi can cash in even more? Sorry shareholders, not sorry, that's not who I feel obligated to in regard to solidarity, but normal people, doing jobs that maybe aren't dream jobs, are.

The violence oriented bullies I had to endure as a kid became police officers. In this modern world one would think there should be some kind of psychological screening where an applicant is asked why they want to be in law enforcement. If beating up people is their motivation, they should be rejected.

The point you make is valid, but it's not valid as a standalone. There's too much issues to just state that the problem is a minority in the police, it's a systemic problem in many regards, too many tojust state that the majority isn't the bad ones. The majority doesn't hinder them, and shutting up and shoving-under aren't exactly innocent, but enabling towards people like Derek Chauvin. Too much... "Thin blue line" - BS on that. Have you seen those seminars that the police in the US can and does book? Where some dude with obvious anger issues screams at them about a war they are fighting? Those brainwashery seminars are not only a scam that wastes taxpayers' money, they're also effectively turning the police from a source of security, a problem-solving-agency, into the danger and problem people need to be protected from. It's way, way more than 2 %, it's much deeper rooted than a number that implies that changing out the worst few would sufficiently solve any...

Yeah, I've met a lot of cops who are genuinely really good people. However, I also fully understand how that power can corrupt someone who has anger issues. I also understand how some incredibly high-pressure situations can get your adrenaline pumping and your fight-or-flight mode cranked up to 11. Both of the latter require training and counseling teaching them how to handle themselves in various situations.

Think about working a service job like a cashier or waiter. Now think about all the jerks you have to deal with during the day. Think about how the number of nice people you wait on is still negated by the number of jerks you wait on. Now think about being a police officer. Your entire customer base are nothing BUT jerks. They don't do what they're told. They argue about everything. They never carry the basics of what they need to drive with, most of them are doing something illegal, and on top of that, they kick, spit, punch, and fight. You people shouldn't be complaining about the 3% bad apple cops out there. Instead, you should ask yourself how any cop keeps on the sane side of the 97%. I'm pretty sure if everyone at BP was a cop for a month, they'd end up in the 3% in less than a week.

Admittedly my radar starts pinging when someone says they don't like animals as a blanket statement but it's not an immediate, "You're an awful person and I'll never talk to you again!" Lots of times people have a valid reason for not liking animals (being chased when they were kids etc.)

I have no problem with a peaceful protest. It is when they start disrupting traffic by gluing themselves to the road or physically blocking it with lots of people is when I have a problem. that ambulance with the lights and siren running that is held up behind their roadblock is trying to get someone to a hospital to save their life.

People don't understand how protests work. Disrupting things make it felt. You can easily be ignored protesting the other way.

Habits. It's getting hate because it puts habits into question. It's roughly the same as questioning the attempts to justify meat - everybody knows they're right, but the implications that acknowledging would have in daily life are, often irrationally so, feared of. Basically, the opposition against these protests say "We don't want to be bothered", not adding anything of value really, often followed by a statement that claims the right not to be bothered, regardless of causing, negative results. Put short: They're immature and know the other sides' points are solidly valid, but "Me No WanNa ChAnGiNg111", so they get angry and try to shift the blame. "You're burdening me with knowledge about the fallout of my egoism, so there has to be fault in your priniples!" may be the most correct translation of their blabber into real language.

... an interesting point in regard to, say, human rights. I've heard that before, that time, it was directed at people tying themselves to train tracks to hinder the delivery of nuclear waste to an unfit location that had been picked out for politial reasons ("Zonenrandgebiet"). It's always in defense of those braking the law, taking advantage of the state - of taxpayers' money - that human rights of protesters who may cause some discomfort are put into question. Interesting, that is...

While I think there were some MCU movies that were a bit lackluster, the majority of them are solid. Non-MCU Marvel films are mixed, though a good chunk of the Fox Marvel films focusing on the X-Men/Wolverine/Deadpool are solid.

Hon,critics are biased. They only like specific genres of movies. It's been that way for a long time. When movies come out, I look at the score and always pay attention to the audience scores before going to see them. Remember to do that. You NEVER EVER pay attention to the critics. They are ridiculous. They will probably give that horrible Rachel Zegler Snow White movie a good score when it comes out.

As a retired teacher, let me just say that it's the way math is taught. I am VERY much a word-oriented person, and math just seems to be a whole different language that I was never taught how to parse. I still can't do word problems, and I'm in my 50s. I wish that I had been taught how to "read" math, how to decode math, and/or that math would have been presented to me in a more linguistic or visual way. I'm very logical, but did not get a good background in math. Straight C's in math, A's and B's in everything else. This is a small life regret, that I just don't do math well -- and by that I mean algebra, geometry, and trig. I can do basic math fine.

100% this. I have never been one to enjoy math, but when it was used in context with my science classes, or when I had the right teacher I almost liked it. I had a geometry teacher in high school who just made more sense than any other math teacher I'd had before. My college math classes were a joke, the teachers barely taught us anything and we just had to learn from a powerpoint. I really struggled with those and eventually had to quite at calculus and change my degree because of it.

Clowns, we've vilified them in popular culture and so many people have heebie-jeebies about them now because of the change in how they are perceived. Before it was the minority that were scared of clowns, now, it seems that any clown is fair game to be considered creepy. It saddens me and I wonder how much damage it has done to the reputation, careers and the future of clowns and clowning.

I´ve sometimes wondered if there might be something in the disconnect between the emotion they are portraying, and the emotion painted on their face. I think it is quite a sensible trait to be a bit wary of people whose emotions don´t really match with their behaviour and expressions. And that is what I find off/putting in clowns, you see this big happy smile even when the person doesn´t act happy.
