We might act like Muppets sometimes, but we’re nowhere near as good at counting as Count von Count. One! Two! Three! Hahaha. And that’s more or less where our worldly wisdom with numbers ends.

(Un)fortunately, we’re not the only ones whose brains sometimes derp out and throw their math skills out of whack! And that’s what the ‘They didn’t do the math’ subreddit is all about. It documents all of the biggest math fails on the net and all of the times people messed up when doing school-level counting. (Just remember not to mix this community up with its counterpart, the ‘They did the math’ subreddit.)

Check out some of the funniest ‘They didn’t do the math posts’ and upvote your fave pics by giving them a big old upvote. Do you have any embarrassing math fails to share with all the other Pandas? Drop us a comment below. Who said that math can’t be fun?!

The subreddit has over 24.3k members and has been active for 6 and a half years at the time of writing. And the community is all about making your inner numbers’ wiz groan and cringe. There’s nothing like feeling like a genius at math when you compare yourself to the worst of the worst, is there?

But suppose that being better than the worst isn’t enough for you. You like a challenge. You enjoy improving yourself. Pushing past your limits. You’re a Panda, after all! Luckily, there are countless (pun not intended) free and paid resources online to help you sharpen your skills with numbers. From big names like Khan Academy to small scale websites and projects that you’ll find hiding in the cracks of the internet, right in-between posts about cats.

Thank you for putting this. I'm tired of people thinking America is like, the dumbest country in the world. And when they make memes about it... I just feel a little sick. Like, how would you like it if I made fun of your country, say, because your country is poor? But only like 48% of the people there are poor? And then everyone laughs about it, except for the people from that country, because it isn't really funny for them.

This happened so often when I was a server. I lost out on numerous tips because self-righteous, mathetmatically-challenged people got furious when I actually paid for a small portion of their meal out of my own pocket to make it easier. Most of the time, they'd throw a fit and leave. Sometimes they'd confront me, or ask for my manager, but usually explaining to these MENSA candidates didn't work and they'd stomp out. So, I started walking around for 8+ hours a night with an extra pound of effing change in my pockets to make the knuckleheads happy.

While some peeps have an easier time learning math, I sincerely believe that everyone can reach the genius tier if they put in enough time, effort, and focus. I for one was really awesome at math when I started school (multiplying stuff was my bread and butter). However, I started struggling when they started throwing in letters and weird concepts into my calculations. I’m sure that more than one of you has been there, dear Readers.

But one thing that I learned was how much carving out an hour or two for practicing basic math problems helped me out. That and knowing some amazing math wizards who explain to you the illogical logic behind numbers. TL;DR—practice makes perfect and soon enough you’ll be a Muppet like Count von Count.

I'm probably being dumb, but the top one just seems like them saying time passes faster when they're around. If you doing an activity or with someone you like, time will appear to speed up. If I'm just being an idiot someone please tell me

That's probably what they meant and it would be the case if they said that every 60 seconds feels like an hour without you. It's probably a mistake and they meant seconds rather than minutes but it could also just be sarcasm and the time doesn't pass by any faster, just normally. Who knows!

Yes. And one kilogram of feathers weights more than one kilogram of rocks, as we all discussed when we were six years old. Besides: who would like a shiny bullet proof vest?

Also, diamond would isn't very tough. It's hard, but would shatter under the impact of the bullet, and the shards would impale the wearer. Game Theory did a video on it. To help, here's an analogy: Take a glass bottle, and a plastic bottle. The glass bottle is harder, yes? You can squeeze the plastic, but the glass remains firm. Now, throw both bottles at a wall. Which will break? The glass, since it's not as tough. The plastic is tougher than the glass, but not as hard.

I watched that video! It explained how diamond could shatter if you hit it at a tree because it had a low toughness. Iron is optimum and preferable because of its high toughness and hardness, while gold was correctly depicted as a really bad material for tools or armour.

Could this exchange be any more wrong? Diamond is not a metal, its hardness is not related to impact resistance (even if you could create a continuous sheet), and I have no idea what the anonymous person was thinking (a carat weighs about 0.2g and the density is about 5 times that of water).

Customers in general are that dumb. I saw a K-Mart Blue Light Special, 2 wooden picture frames for $7. Good deal right? Yeah except they set the cart right in front of the end cap where those frames are set for everyday sale. $2.49 each. Only difference was they had placed a new bar code on the specials so they would ring up higher.

Would have to be a party of four to buy 12 loaves at the sale price, with one person paying the cashier from the pooled funds. However, everyone will still only get three loaves. Unless one person can’t or doesn’t eat bread, and just comes along to help you out—-but please remember to not make them pay for it.

Most things are like that. One exception is Coke and all the drinks like that. If the cokes are on sale $3/11 you have to buy 3. It is that way at Kroger, Publix, several pharmacies. I asked why one day and they said that coke/Pepsi make their own sales. I don't know if that is the right reason but I do know if you go to buy just 1 it will ring up $5.99 regardless.

This may be a clever sales ploy! When I am doing cake sales for my favourite charity I advertise the cakes as 50p each or 3 for £2. People will come up and say “Aha! I should get 4 for £2” (no, I’m not very good at realistic dialogue). My response is “Wow, well spotted, I guess I’ll have to give you 4 for £2”. Thing is, they only would’ve bought one if they hadn’t felt so clever for spotting the price! Win!

Technically even if we take that literally its untrue. On the 2nd its 1% of 101% from the 1th day, 3rd day is 1% of 2nd day so its 102.01% and that decimal part keeps growing. So after 365 days it accumulates up to 3740,93%.... Take that motivational speakers!

the error is that sqrt((x^2)) = abs(x), not x (you can't just cancel out like that). if you do that right, the equation works out in the end as abs(-1) = 1.

Here's the thing: the 4.3% tax in lieu of private health insurance. So for a family of four with a total household income of $100K that's $4,300 for essentially free healthcare. Sound like a lot? Currently, at a similar (a little lower) income for a family of 7 we pay $11, 700 annually for the premium, $20 co pay for each regular visit (if only counting annual check ups that's another $140) and $50 for each specialist (let's assume half had one issue that required a second visit with a different doctor - just one - I know it's unrealistic but we're making assumptions here, that's another $175, and let's throw in one ER visit, one ambulance ride and one admission to the hospital for $100, $3,000, and $500 respectively. I'd save well over $11,000 a year by being taxed and not paying health insurance. We didn't even cover rx, multiple follow up visits, dentist (another $2000 a year...) I mean Jeez, people! DO THE MATH!

Why does the caption say 650,000? Am I missing something, or isn't it meant to be 6,500,000...?

6,500,000 is the population, if the margin of error is 1%, the margin of error for Finnish population would be +/- 650,000.

2 month for 30,000 is 15,000 per month, 3 month for 50,000 is 16,667 per month , and 4 month for 80,000 is 20,000 per month. I would take 2 consecutive contracts for a total of 60,000 instead of one 4 month contract for 80,000.

I'm pretty sure that 1 trillion is a multiple of a million so, technically, correct.

Nothing wrong here. The value of a credit is not defined, so 1 trillion credits may be only worth $1 USD.

Okay, the grams are wrong, but the percentages are Daily Values, which means how much of the nutrient you need to get in one day.

99.9% killed plus 0.01% survived equals 99.91%. This leaves 0.09% as per the title.

He trained multiple at once. I hour with x and 1 hour with 1 = 2 hours training athletes in 1 hour. (if unclear, this is a joke)
