Cats are notorious for weird behaviors. Like, squeezing themselves into the weirdest places, sleeping in trees, having mysterious cat logic, and using it to their advantage. But they’re our hands-down favorite furballs on this planet, and that inherent quirkiness is what makes them even more lovable.
And this time, we’re taking a look into yet another feline superpower that keeps bamboozling their owners and it’s the way cats blend into their surroundings. My guess would be they put on The Cloak Of Invisibility (Harry Potter fans would probably agree it’s a safe bet!) and go about their day, or… well, I am out of theories.
Thanks to a Twitter page with an all-telling title “There is no cat in this image,” we have a lot of cases captured on camera to study this phenomenon. The page’s 409.6K followers are already busy playing Where’s Waldo: impawsible edition, so let’s join them by scrolling through this enigmatic collection of images below.

Why is the rug hissing and scratching me when i step on it?
Load More Replies...I think cats are evolving to more closely resemble the habitats they are living in today. Gone are the days when blending into the savanna was a thing... nowadays it's hardwood and bath mats.
When lost, one can figure direction by looking for a cat growing on the north side of the tree.
Same way he got up, climb. Or considering it's not that high up he/she may turn and jump.

Online Vet offers peace of mind for pet parents with 24/7 vet help on any question concerning pet’s health, nutrition, behavior, and more.
“How cats navigate their surroundings and perceive the world through their senses is a fascinating subject and a highly complex one. In order to better understand how they perceive the world, we first have to take a look at cats’ unique sense of hearing, olfaction, and vision and how these are linked to one another. Generally, cats possess a well-developed sense of smell, acute hearing, and precise vision, which helps them navigate through familiar surroundings,” Oleh explained.
Nice painting but why did you paint the tail on the carpet you should make it fit!
He's like one of those people who stand on streets pretending to be famous paintings.
The first day we had our new kitty Bunny, we put her in a spare bedroom to keep her separated from our other cat while we ran out for an errand. When we got back, we couldn't find her, searched that room for several minutes, and were mystified about how she could have escaped. Then I noticed a little taupe tuft next to a framed photo on the bookshelf, and there she was, scrunched behind the picture.
I had a black cat who was deaf. She used to hide behind a picture on our black piano which was right by the couch. I used to bring guys home, sit them on the couch, on the side nearest the piano. I would kiss my date, only to have them scream in terror when the cat would stroke their necks. She couldn't hear their reactions, but she got to see them jump! And a good time was had by all. Well, maybe not all.

Maybe he's laying there to see how many pounds before he fits the template.

In comparison, humans have just 5 million receptors, so you can imagine how different our species are in regards to smell. When it comes to hearing, cats possess something that’s sometimes referred to as a biological marvel. While the hearing range is similar among cats and humans, felines have a longer ear canal, allowing them to hear sounds at longer distances,” Oleh told us.
“Finally, the cat’s vision is also unique in how these animals navigate. Even though felines are nearsighted, they have three cones, allowing them to see a broad color spectrum,” he added.

“The reasons behind cat hiding are many, ranging from being frightened to being wary about unfamiliar objects or guests. Usually, such behavior is normal and shouldn’t concern pet owners. The situation is different when your cat is hiding for a prolonged time. It might also be an indication that a feline is living in a stressful or enrichment-free environment. Still, remember that each cat has individual traits, with some felines being more self-reliant than others.”
As the proud servant of a trotie, I can attest that they also can do well against certain wood. Our other cat, being black, is simply a servant of Night and Ambush.
Only saw the eye at first, in the one on the left. As I stared, she slowly emerged from the pic like some sci-fi animation.
After the other photos, I am still looking at this to see how many kitties there really are =^..^==^..^==^..^==^..^==^..^=
Cats' urge to hide can be linked to their instincts and the fact that they feel safe and secure when hidden. “Their instincts as prey animals dictate such behavior in most instances. A cat often needs more time to get acquainted with a new animal in the house. Or, when it comes to dogs, felines choose to hide as the coping mechanism to work with being anxious or afraid,” Oleh explained.
Oh I've seen this before so i know where the cat is!! (Hint: check on top)
I've seen this one before too, but forgot where the cat was hiding.

Our Lola does the same! She loves it when I hide her toys underneath for her to find

My favorite cat used to do this in the bathroom with the rug...but he liked having his tail stick out so he could swish it! RIP Charlie...miss you.
I would just LOVE to cuddle and kiss that fluffy pillow 😻💖
Load More Replies...Another reason for why your cat may have an urge to hide is that it might have experienced the trauma of getting into a fight with other animals, Oleh argues. “So if your cat has a traumatic experience of fighting with other animals, it’s no surprise that hiding is a behavior used to cope with the acquired anxiety,” he added.
Are they trying to torment the cat, by putting all that lovely fresh sand under glass?
Interestingly, that's where I assumed it was when first looking at the image, but *behind* the TV. I figured it was poking its face out. Then I saw your comment and went back to look again, and now I see it's just sitting there, fully visible, just black on black. Neat.

My kitten used to climb inside an open drawer, and over the back of the drawer to lie behind it. I wondered why my drawer wouldn’t close all the way, and why it squeaked every time I tried to close it.
