The Quest For The New 007: I Unveiled The Potential James Bond Candidates (11 Pics)
James Bond, the timeless symbol of British sophistication, gadgetry, and unwavering resolve, has captured the imagination of audiences worldwide. The role itself has grown to become a cherished mantle in the entertainment industry, symbolizing both timeless charm and intense action. As Daniel Craig hangs up his tuxedo, it's time for another transition in the world of 007, sparking wide speculation and immense public anticipation.
The end of an era for Craig, who played the iconic character for 15 years, has led to the stirring question: Who will be the next James Bond?
The international community has witnessed and actively participated in this process of transition before, and it has become an event in itself. Much like the Olympic torch passing from hand to hand, so does the identity of 007, renewing our fascination with the character each time. The race is on, the bets are high, and the candidates... quite intriguing.
You may remember my AI-based photography projects "As If Nothing Happened", "Thisness" and "Young Age(d)" in which I digitally depict some iconic social figures. This time, I depict the James Bond candidates in action to see who better fits the character.

Tom Hiddleston
Tom Hiddleston, who played the fan-favorite character Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is often suggested as a potential Bond. Hiddleston's digital depiction hints at a Bond possessing a quick wit, charm, and a degree of unpredictability. Known for his deep, immersive character portrayals, Hiddleston might bring unexpected layers to the role of 007.
I have the strangest crush on Tom Hiddleston. I personally think he would make a brilliant Bond after winning multiple accolades for his role in the Night Manager. He definitely has a wonderful charisma to him.
yes there's a visceral quality about him that's very attractive
Load More Replies...If I could upvote this a million times, I would. Just THINKING about Tom Hiddleston has me a lil giddy. Watch Crimson Peak. He's phenomenal.
He has the skills, charisma and intelligence to create a whole new Bond that still retains the important legacy traits!
Perfect for the next 007. Pedigree, voice, physical build, acting ability is amazing. You believe this man.
Tom Hiddleston would be an exceptional Bond. He is charming, intelligent, great sense of humor, charismatic, extremely handsome and looks great in a tuxedo. He gets my vote!
Tom Hiddleston was so good as Loki. I bet his version of James Bond would be funny, sly, intelligent, weasly, and charismatic.
wow, that is one pretty human!! but then again I also have a huge crush.
Before I looked at this thread, and only by reading the headline, he was the first one I thought of.
He would be fantastic. An incredible actor and just mischievous enough to pull 007 off.
James Bond is a character that I have followed and admired since the Pierce Brosnan era. (Of course, I've seen all the Bond movies.) I think there are many actors who could play James Bond, and I follow with interest the news and comparisons about it. While dreaming about this subject, I integrate the different aspects of the actors with the character.
Idris Elba
With his charismatic screen presence in "Luther" and "The Wire", is a name frequently circulated in discussions about the next 007. Elba's digital depiction oozes charisma and confidence, traits that could lend a robust edge to the Bond character. His potential casting would bring a thrilling new dynamic to the Bond franchise.
A pity as I think he'd be awesome as Bond. He has exactly the right mix of charm and brute.
Load More Replies...Love Elba, but he's too old to START to play Bond. If an actor is going to do even a few movies as 007, that's like 10 years right there. They'll need to cast someone younger.
Not that there was anything wrong with Daniel Craig, but Elba needed to get it the last iteration.
Load More Replies...Idris and Tom Hardy are the best and coolest actors of the bunch. They could do it but why bother? Bond is actually below them. Idris would be great to blow the stereotype out of the water and could easily be a Bond but it may not be worth the silly racist controversy. Is a Bond film worth it? Id rather see him take on more serious roles.
Elba, Norton and Harding look the part. They look like they have the age and wisdom of a Bond! It shows in there face; those lines and creases don't come without hard work. Sean Connery had those certain lines in his face of character ; not contrived but earned. The others are just to Chinese (to young) to have me believe they could be a Bond.
This photo was taken right after he finished saying „Bond… James Bond”, I’m sure of it. He couldn’t play 007 because he secretly really is 007.
I love Idris Elba and think he's a fine actor, but I really hate it when a character gets changed from the author's description to be "inclusive".
Henry Cavill
Known for his roles as Superman in the DC Universe and Geralt in "The Witcher", Henry Cavill has often been suggested for the role of James Bond. Cavill has the physicality and charm that aligns with the classic Bond character. In his digital depiction, Cavill's Bond is strong, confident, and commanding. His established history with action-heavy roles suggests that he could step into Bond's stylish shoes with relative ease.
Why don't they just pick Henry Cavill he looks like a James bond guy it ain't that hard
I saw an article from someone that complained he's "too young" and that bond needs to be in his 40's... Cavill is 40.
Load More Replies...He lost out to Daniel Craig last time for “being too skinny”. How ridiculous!
That was, what, 20 years ago??? Daniel Craig's first Bond film came out in 2007, right?
Load More Replies...He’s ok, but… half the movies he was in I don’t really remember him being in them, that’s bad.
After I started working with AI, I thought of producing a project on this, including some actors in my mind, and when I saw that I was able to do this in software with convincing photorealism, I produced the works you see. The characters you see represent my dream combination of the specific actor and Bond's features I've seen before. For example, when I think of Idris Elba, I imagine Bond's technological and innovative side, while Taron Egerton's or Henry Cavill's features are more traditional.
Taron Egerton
Known for his roles in the "Kingsman" series and "Rocketman," has the potential to bring a fresh, youthful spin to the Bond character. Egerton's digital depiction portrays a suave and agile Bond, with a hint of an audacious spirit. His past roles showcase his ability to handle both action sequences and character depth, making him a compelling choice.
I like this one. Definite shadows of Moore and Connery in there.
I don't know what his acting is like, but this picture most looks like Bond, if that's still a thing.
I can really see Taron Egerton going Bond very well, after the Kingsman films. Here, he really does look like a young James Bond.
More suave and personable? Taron Egerton. Ruthlessly kill Dryden? James Norton. Nortons the one.
Can't cast the part *too* young. After all, Bond is a commander in the Royal, and it takes a while to get promoted in peacetime
James Norton
Popular for his roles in "McMafia" and "Grantchester," is another name that comes up frequently in the James Bond debate. Norton's digital depiction as Bond presents an image of polished charm and stern resolve, hinting at a Bond who can handle both diplomacy and danger with equal finesse.
My 2nd choice. His Happy Valley bad guy showed he can do nasty and he can act.
Anyone who saw Happy Valley would happy with this choice. His last scene, so much going on in one face.
Load More Replies...He would be my second choice after Hiddleston. Tall, mysterious, very handsome, unpredictable quality. Good actor.
I'm thinking that the artfully arranged bed head is not the Bond look.
While making this list, I started with the British actors I have already watched. Although many of the actors on the list were deemed fit for this role by fans (and of course, me), I also included some other actors with significant talent. Apart from James Bond, there are incredible roles and actors who play these roles wonderfully.
Tom Hardy
The versatile and critically acclaimed actor, Tom Hardy, has also emerged as a top contender. Hardy, known for his roles in "Inception" and "Mad Max: Fury Road," has a chameleon-like talent for immersing himself in his characters. The digital depiction of Hardy as Bond radiates a rugged charm and echoes his trademark intensity, hinting at a Bond who's ready to take on any challenge.
Hardy is a terrific actor, but in that image he just doesn’t look like Bond at all; much more like a henchman.
No. Too much of a hard man, he lacks the sensitivity that Bond needs occasionally
I bet he could pull of the sensitivity...but he's already more of a villain or anti-hero in my brain.
Load More Replies...Like I said about Idris. Too good for Bond and he doesn't quite fit the mould however neither did Daniel Craig at first but he pulled it off. Mind you Sean Connery left Bond to do more serious roles so why should a successful serious actor go backwards. I'm sure he'd be great but I think a Bond script would be below Tom Hardy. He's like a Marlon Brando!
Tom Hardy would be excellent, he's a fantastic actor. Yes, he's played geezer types, but is more than capable of playing Bond. Idris (who's already ruled himself out) or Tom for me.
Hardy is my second favorite for 007, because he truly does immerse himself in his characters.
Regé-Jean Page
Propelled to stardom by Netflix's hit "Bridgerton," has also attracted considerable attention. Page's depiction brings a modern, fresh take to the table, with a charisma that effortlessly echoes Bond's trademark suavity. His embodiment of the Duke of Hastings already showcases a knack for portraying characters with a seductive blend of elegance and mystery.
No. Very handsome and smooth but has no physical menace at all. He is as intimidating as a rose petal.
Has he been in any roles like this though? I mean, other than Bridgerton, has he been in any action movie or played the villain? Cause judging somebody from one role is not fair
Load More Replies...Regé-Jean Page (another in my Top 5) is a charismatic actor who can play a member of the ton equally as well as a CIA villain (The Gray Man).
I would like the actor who will play the role of Bond to be the one who can portray the role the longest. To be honest, I think that a less predictable (or never predicted, not even on this list) younger actor will be chosen for the role of James Bond. I have a strong feeling that James Norton or Lucien Laviscount will be the next Bond. I hope these lines will gain value at a future date. :)
Lucien Laviscount
Lucien Laviscount, who gained recognition for his roles in "Scream Queens" and more recently in Netflix's "Emily in Paris," is a younger actor whose name has been brought up in the Bond debate. His digital depiction suggests a youthful, modern take on Bond that could appeal to a new generation of viewers. Laviscount's ability to portray both charm and depth in his characters could potentially introduce a Bond who embodies both tradition and innovation.
That man looks the way an expensive, good cologne smells. He has my vote!
Love "scream queens"😄!! Lucien would be a great Bond. it also doesn't hurt that he's really handsome 😍
Richard Madden
Known for his starring role in "Game of Thrones" and "Bodyguard," has surfaced as a frontrunner in the race. Madden, already familiar with complex characters and high-stakes environments, would bring a unique blend of intensity and emotional depth to the role. His digital depiction reflects this duality: sharp eyes reflecting a dangerous world, yet a distinct warmth underlying his persona.
What a sad encapsulation of the unusual talent of an actor of immense depth at such a young age. He is my #1 pick, but it's not based off some 'catalogue photo' which seems to be what you're going on. It's based on the brilliant series "Bodyguard" which, if you haven't yet watched it, I suspect would change your mind.
Load More Replies...No, James Bond doesn’t do puppy eyes and this guy is all puppy eyes all the time. :p
That was one of the knocks on Craig lmao
Load More Replies...Have you ever not liked an actor, but couldn't put a finger on what about them made you dislike his acting? That's Richard Madden for me.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Known for his roles in "Kick-Ass" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," is another name that has been suggested in discussions about the next James Bond. Taylor-Johnson has shown a considerable range in his roles, demonstrating an ability to balance action, drama, and humor. His digital depiction as Bond hints at a dynamic, intense, and approachable character. Having proven his action star status and shown depth and versatility in a variety of roles, Taylor-Johnson could bring a fresh, youthful energy to the character of James Bond. With his blend of charm and intensity, he could represent a Bond who is not only physically capable but also emotionally complex.
If you saw Bullet Train, you already know he could pull off Bond. He's got the looks and the ability to have toughness and swagger on screen.
Much too foppish. Let’s not bring back the Roger Moore vibe, please.
Henry Golding
Another actor making waves in the Bond debate is Henry Golding, best known for his role in "Crazy Rich Asians." His digital depiction hints at a more suave and composed Bond, with a subtle, yet potent charm. Golding's diverse acting repertoire might bring an interesting global perspective to the character.
Lastly, another "No". All of the ones that expressed a "No" to would make excellent spy characters of their own, but not Bond. James Bond, to me, is older, seasoned, damaged. He has seen and done some sh*t. Many of these guys look as if they have just graduated college and is off to work an internship in their Father's business...
I agree that a lot of these actors are too fresh faced. Bond has always been a bit rough round the edges. That said, these are photos of them at their best so maybe they could step the grooming back a bit and be fine? (In terms of talent, they're all good at what they do.)
Load More Replies...2nd choice - this actually works ;) he checks out all the boxes so ...YES!
James Bond has always been a reflection of how the UK views itself: Connery was “we’re as cool as the Yanks but more sophisticated,” Moore was Disco-era distraction from the real issues (busy through the 70’s and he never once fought the IRA), Brosnan was Cool Britannia, and Craig was the punk rock kid grown up to fight terrorism. I don’t pretend to know who fits the role in the current era, but I have heard that the former Duke and Duchess of Sux are in talks for a Los Angeles-based reboot of the Avengers
You left out Lazenby and Timothy Dalton. Dalton was definitely the war on drugs Bond.
Load More Replies...Unpopular opinion here, please don't down vote me too hard.... but the next 007 should be the last 007, Lashana Lynch. Follow me on this: 007 is a billet, or position in MI-6 not a single person. At the beginning of the last James Bond movie she was 007. Let Lashana Lynch continue to be 007. She was bad a*s enough to be 007, and she was bad a*s in the last Bond movie. Pass the 007 torch back to the last 007. It'll be great!
Need a Bond that can have the humour but can be deadly serious instantly.
Luke Evans also is one of the candidates, but many people don’t like the fact that he is gay. Not that it matters for me. He is strong, elegant, true gentleman, experienced in almost every movie genre, and he is working for the King IRL.
Yes! Luke Evans would be a great choice as well but sadly I think the fact he's gay would upset a lot of the straight male fans.
Load More Replies...I'm still salty that they didn't make Lewis Collins the next Bond after Roger Moore left. Yes, it's been thirty years and I'm still annoyed about it.
Sadly he was a chaotic alcoholic so probably too unreliable to prop up a major film series.
Load More Replies...I don't like the Bond movies and I've never watched or wanted too watch them, but I think Tom Ellis would play a good Bond. He's Welsh (but still a British accent), versatile in his acting range, the right age and has the physique for it (classically handsome and 6'3). He'd get me to watch a Bond Movie.
I think Sam Claflin would also be good. Also Max Mingella could be an outside contender. Both British, both dark and handsome. Also the makers of Bond traditionally go for actors who are well known but not stars, like Daniel Craig was at the start. I think Tom Hardy might be too famous already.
Looks like the homely looking guys miss out yet again, and will have to stick with the comic relief roles
