One of the many exciting parts of planning a wedding is when the bride gets to select her wedding dress. However, there’s no accounting for taste, so if the dresses get a little crazy or tasteless, this wedding dress shaming group on Facebook can be like a vicious school of piranhas.

Indeed, there are a million different directions to go when it comes to wedding dresses, so it’s no surprise that not everyone agrees on what looks right. Current styles can change from year to year, and if the couple is interested in tapping traditional styles for inspiration, then the possibilities truly are endless. If you go back far enough, wedding dresses weren’t even always white!

As you scroll through these controversial wedding dress choices, let us know your thoughts in the comments. Is the dress a mess, or did the wedding dress shaming brigade get it wrong?

Love the "fur" placement! I really want to hear what the designer has to say: " This represents The Bride's vulnerability about to embark on her path of sexual exploration..." Or some such nonsense. Sorry it's late; I'm sleepy. It sounds better in my head than typed out...

The Sleeve Length, The See Through, The Ruffles, The Everything Tbh Just Awful

Britti Absolum Report

The concept of special wedding garments is an ancient one, but attitudes and styles have certainly changed over the centuries. Traditional wedding dresses in China and other Asian countries, for example, were traditionally red (red is considered an auspicious color in many parts of Asia). In ancient Rome, wedding gowns were deep yellow, while ancient Athenian wedding gowns were violet or red.

I wanted to walk out of my dress consultation. The consultant didn’t listen to any of my “do not want” list, and kept bringing me dresses that wet at the max end of my budget to get a higher bonus. And unfortunately, at the time, there weren’t any other bridal shops within an hour drive of me. My final dress was nice - had to get a custom made one by that point, still in my budget - but honestly the whole process was s**t.

I feel you. I got married in tie-dyed dungarees, because I didn't want to spend mad money on a dress, or just try dresses in general. I'm sorry to hear you had an awful experience <3

She definitely is a beautiful woman, but for me, she’s not the star because all the focus is on how that dress overpowers her, and on the wedding day, the focus should always first be on the bride, then the dress. Just my thoughts.

You shouldn't be so hard on the consultants - I used to work with my Mum who was a bridal wear designer, and 9/10, brides would go for a dress that my Mum chose for them that they would never think of trying on. For all you know, it could have suited you really well!

I agree, sometimes you are pleasantly surprised by what they choose for you that you don’t think you’d like, but it most definitely isn’t this particular dress.

Rip off the sleeves and the fluff in the skirt section and it'd prob look OK. It worked for Jaimie Lee

They were earning a percentage of the dress because the shop was trying offload it on an innocent victim.

Actually.... Ask her if she can make another one without the sleeves, and without the ruffle at the bottom (make the train satin). From chest to thigh it's a beautiful dress and suits you.

When you aren't sure what style will look best you you, save the time trying on different things. This is a one stop shop = all the styles in one dress.

The first recorded case of a white wedding dress in the West was when Princess Philippa of England was married to Eric of Pomerania in 1408. This was far from a trend at the time, however, and dresses of various colors and styles were used throughout Europe.

As a design, it's actually beautiful and the bride definitely has an amazing body for it....just a shame it was worn as a wedding dress.

White wedding dresses began to gain traction in the West after Queen Victoria wore white in her marriage in 1840. Some brides chose to emulate her, and later on, people began to associate the color choice with purity and chastity.

Interestingly enough, old photographic processes probably had a role in reinforcing the choice for brides to dress in white. Before color photography, even the most beautifully colored dresses would be captured by photographers in a hundred shades of grey, while pure white dresses would come out more or less true to the day, standing out starkly against the black and grey spectrum of the rest of the photo.

I feel it is important to note this was a trend "styling wedding dresses like the met gala" (where we all know the fashion is insane). it was part of a series like "styling dresses like disney princesses, styling them like different flowers.....etc". this is not actually one of her designs :)
