This Taxi Driver Spent 20 Years Photographing His Passengers In NYC Starting 30 Years Ago
The back seat of a cab in New York - his was, for Ryan Weideman, a “photographic studio” for decades.
When Ryan Weideman arrived at New York in 1980, he was full of dreams. He immediately realized how difficult it was to start a life of a photographer and began to worry about paying his bills and rent.
Inspired by his neighbor who was a taxi driver, Ryan embraced the idea of becoming one and uniting his work with a passion for photography.

From the straight edge X on her hand I'd say between 1986 and 1989.
Load More Replies...I hate people who put their shoes on the seat, they could have walked in dog s**t or whatever, and then the next person has to sit on it

Well, I am almost sure: after realizing their mirrored image in the lake even caveman did selfies, just painted it on the cave wall. But we do have many-many wonderful famous Painters, who made self-portraits. So I don't se a big of a deal of the black&white selfies. ;) =) ;) =) <3

Her gaze is so intense, I feel like she could tell me many interesting stories
The lighting is phenomenal! The way her eyes are framed, with her little squinty sideways look and the shadows across his face...stunning!

The entire series - Looks like he asked for assignment at a specific pick up/nightclub / cross dressing venue. Whether for the excellent photo ops or fixation, who knows.
No, it looks like the UFO chaser Friedman. He left this world years ago and I hope he is now in that parallel universe, where all will go one day. Sooner or later.
Do you think that's an original poem he's holding in his hand? Maybe he paid by manuscript instead of money.

For the collection of photos, these are great captures of real people! Kudos to the cab driver and for sharing!!
Love this project. A joy for all people watchers. Life is so diverse and interesting and you wonder what each of these people are doing today and what their story is.
True artistry, capturing everyday life in such a unique way, with such unique subjects! Glad it was all B&W, colour would have ruined it, B&W gave it that edgy feel.
