It’s not surprising that there is growing evidence that negative news can affect our mental health, notably in the form of increased anxiety, depression and acute stress reactions. Often unknowingly, we devour hours upon hours of negativity, whether it’s endless scrolling on social media or batch coverage of current events which comes straight to your mobile every morning.

So no wonder good news is having a renaissance. Just look at the Instagram account “Tanks Good News,” a powerhouse of lighthearted, wholesome, humorous and overwhelmingly positive content. Created and run by George Resch, aka Tank Sinatra, who aims at highlighting the good instead of the bad, the page today has 2.7 million followers, a number which shows just how thirsty we are for positive content.

Below we collected some of the most wholesome, soothing, and humorous posts from the page to fill your heart with joy, so enjoy! Also, make sure to share this post with anyone who’s been feeling down lately, it works like magic.

As cute as the picture is, it's a bit dangerous to let a small child so close to a dog you don't really know yet.

Resch told Elite Daily that he struggled with sobriety more than a decade ago, before getting completely sober at the age of twenty-two. Now being thirty-eight, Resch recalls: "I would be frustrated that I wasn't positive, but I wasn't looking for anything to be positive [about], so it was a vicious downward cycle where I was unhappy and I looked for things to justify my unhappiness. When I got sober, I thought doing that would kill me. So, I felt like I needed to be positive to survive."

In 2017, Resch created Tank's Good News, the hugely successful project that stems from his frustration with the negativity of current news. “CNN, Fox... they've made a business out of creating a visceral reaction out of people but that reaction is fear, anxiety and negativity," he explained. He didn’t know there was a market for good news, yet said he knew “if I could make people feel good, they would come back."

This ! Kids don't "need" dads, moms or other, they need milestones, figures to look up to, knowing they can be safe with someone. Parents can do that, sure, but you can always help

Courtney gave a fair opinion. I think a more accurate statement would be “parents SHOULD do that, but you can always help” Kids may have terrible parents and be taken to a loving home. Helping can well, help, but love is essential and heart breaking when it can’t be found.

This happened to me when I was 15. A guy noticed me in the bus, got off after me and followed me to the cinema, where I was supposed to meet my friend. He tried to talk to me and ask me out and even asked to pay for my ticket, but I said no thanks and bought my own ticket. 5 minutes later my friend reached and I told her about this guy who'd been following me. An older man, who was standing near us, overhead me and thankfully immediately alerted the cinema security. Turns out, as soon as I had finished purchasing my own ticket, the creep had convinced the ticket lady that he was with us, and asked her our seat numbers, to buy a ticket right next to me. Thankfully the other guy had noticed something fishy about the h Whole thing, as I myself was still too young or naive to know how to react

The huge popularity of Tank's Good News reflects not only its creator's but our shared fatigue with what’s happening on the screens and media. The worst scenarios are bombarding us every day and it’s only fair we get fed up with it. To find out more about it, what this negative exposure does to our mental wellbeing and how can we be more resilient to it, we spoke with Dr. Lise Deguire, a clinical psychologist and author of award-winning memoir “Flashback Girl: Lessons on Resilience From a Burn Survivor.”

Dr. Lise said that indeed many people report that their mood is negatively affected by the news. “Of course, the news itself tends to focus on negative occurrences. For example, the news will report on the terrible car accident that happened. They will not, of course, report on the thousands of people that safely drove that day. (Safe, happy occurrences are not usually considered news.) But, because the news focuses so much on negative events, it can make us feel that only bad things are happening in the world,” she explained.

The clinical psychologist added that the news often focuses on events that make us fearful, “because when we are afraid, we tend to think we need to keep watching the news.”

I hope you have learned how valuable, beautiful, and precious you are through your battles. Never stop fighting the voices that want you to give up on yourself. They never really go away, but you hold the power over them, not the other way around. Get it, girl!! Keep going after the things you can flex on.

When asked what are psychological benefits to reducing the time you spend on social media and watching TV, Dr. Lise said that when her clients report anxiety, sadness or anger about the news, she often encourages them to limit their news/social media exposure. “Most of us can stay informed through a quick read of the headlines. Having the news on in the background, or checking Twitter all day, often distresses people because the news almost always focuses on scary negative events and ignores positive ones,” she explained.

This should be law across the planet, to stop the lies about recycling. Less than 15% of plastic is actually recycled. Instead of cutting down trees, turn the bottles into these bricks and build low cost housing and other structures.

I actually grew with bikers in the 80's. My mother dated a member. People dont understand that bikers are family oriented, kind, helpful. They get a bad rap based on appearance, they form clubs so they can be around like minded people because society has cast them as outcasts because they dont dress and act like the norm. And every club member I knew was a skilled tradesman for one of the big three.

My organ donor was a young skydiver that had one last, tragic jump at sunset. I was told that he was still aware enough to agree to donate his organs for transplant before he passed. I have never met him, yet part of him has been living inside me for 20 years. I hope he approves of what I have done with his gift. My daughter grew up with a loving father. I hope that's enough of an accomplishment for the young skydiver.

The good news is that we can all learn to become more positive and resilient to negativity. “One way is to learn who or what makes us feel good, and who or what makes us feel bad. For example, my mood usually improves when I listen to music or go outside. My mood usually goes downhill when I stop exercising. All of us have activities that lift us up or bring us down.”

Dr. Lise also said that the more aware we can be, the better choices we can make. “Does it help you to dance? Write? Call a friend? Take a bath? See if you can figure out what is in your positivity 'toolbox,'" she suggested.

The shoes he are wearing are probably made by Bates. As a member of the USN for 28 years I can tell you with certainly the shoes did not melt..but they consistently degrade over time and the soles of the shoes delaminate, dissolve and degrade to such a point as they turn to a black mess as evidenced in the photograph. While I applaud his efforts, the story's headline is untrue. Had he been exposed to heat extreme enough to melt his shoes, he would have passed out from heat stroke well before that happened.

It is absolutely monstrous that in the US (and some other places too) a criminal record can keep someone from getting a job. How are people supposed to make their way back into society if no one will hire them? What alternatives do we give people if they can't earn money? The for-profit prison system is even worse than the for-profit health system in the US, and that's saying something. (And the fact that slavery remains legal for incarcerated people - if you don't understand how that gives police an INCENTIVE to lock people up and how they focus on people who traditionally have less power in society, then you are impossibly naive).

    Michael Sanders
    Community Member
3 years ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Agreed. Rant in 3..2..1..Let’s take this compassion and also pass it on to people who get “canceled”, fired and lose many job opportunities because of something they said 20 years ago. Some of the same people that cry for prison reform will then participate in destroying someone’s life the next minute for something they said in 1996. A troubled past should not follow you forever. Many people in the prison system that have paid their price are disregarded and it is sad and needs to be changed. Some offenses though are hard to build back from. Unfortunately when someone is “expelled” when tried by a jury of their peers or a jury of a multitude of people they don’t even know they are rarely checked up on to see if there was any progress. Trust me I know. When you commit a crime or an “offense” you can learn real quick how expendable you are. I’ve said to many people if you don’t believe in the death penalty, but believe in the social death penalty you need to check yourself. “And yes before you wreck yourself”

More easily, I’d say. Society makes it very hard to take another route. We sort of build repeat offenders, one could say.

My dad was in hospice care and they told us the day it would happen. We stood around him telling him we loved him(very sick/heavily medicated, he couldn't respond other than looking at us) and that it was ok to let go. After he stopped breathing and the monitor started alarming my sister started screaming. 15 seconds later heart is beating again, he's breathing, and he opens his eyes and looks at her. They most certainly can still hear you.

My husband was in a coma for 5 weeks. I talked to him, sang to him, touched him. Although he doesn't recall any of it, he made it back when the drs gave him no chance at survival.

When I was in a coma I had dreams is things that were going on around me. I woke up and asked questions; I didn't know they were dreams. My family was like, "how did you know that?". I didn't understand why they were asking.

I was also in a coma for a week after surgery. Turned out I was allergic to opiates and stopped breathing.I had no sense of time. I unable to think out where I was or why I was there. I have faint recollections of me floating on the ceiling looking down and my sister talking to me and family. But I couldn't talk or move. When I was waking up I was delusional and had awful hallucinations. When I was more awake I asked for a psychiatric consult just to make sure I still had all my marbles.

I actually practice against my own "ghost car" almost everyday in my futile attempt to feel like a real race car driver. Make me wish I had a ghost lap of my own dad. I just know that if he hadn't passed away too soon and too young before these games were available, he would have loved playing them. We were both gearheads and spent many weekends riding motorcycles in the hills and mountains of central Italy. This guy has a precious gift in that x-box. I'd be terrified to beat it by mistake.

This makes me think of Alan Turing the code breaker that created a computer to crack enigma codes significantly affecting the allies ability to win the war. Convicted in Britain in 1952 for “gross indecency”. He was given the option of jail or chemical castration, he chose castration. 2 years later he died of cyanide poisoning, it was ruled a suicide but there is evidence it could have been accidental. It took until 2009 for George Brown to apologize for the way he was treated, in response to pressure from an online petition. That year the queen pardoned him. 57 years later and much progress was made in that regard before 2009. In the WWII museum in NOLA you could pretty much only find a record of his achievements if you were looking for them or are the type of museum goer that reads everything. Terrible. Also watch The Imitation Game with Cumberbatch about him. It’s a good watch

When you think of all the lives Alan Turing and the code-breakers saved, it makes his treatment by the government even more heinous.

She is. But, I think if she wanted her picture edited-why not do it? It seemed more important to her that it be done. It's action, not just telling her something she's probably heard numerous times before. I don't think it's very noticeable, but sometimes offering platitudes isn't called for. I know this will get downvoted, but I feel like this wasn't very helpful. And, yes, she's a beautiful girl either way.

She's not the 1st. He treated a boy in a wheelchair on his show with kindness and later the boy was onstage and he treated him with respect then. YouTube has Fred Rogers clips even on the black guy he asked to sit and cool his feet in a poll. The same one Rogers feet were in. People freaked especially the racists.

Mr. Rogers was an amazing person. He was an ordained minister, but instead of ministering to a church congregation, he ministered to children through his tv show. I think that's why he had such a calm peacefulness about him. 🥰❤

Why people say they can’t wait til their kids are 18 is beyond me...like you want to have to pay an extra rent/car payment/insurance/cell phone bill and not even get to see them everyday? You never stop being a parent supporting your child in any way you can. My mom just gave my 50 yr old brother a pick up truck because he couldn’t afford one and needed it for work SMH. Our job of being parents is never over.

He got it passed, but the Republicans watered it down to it doesn't cover uninsured people and only applies to people on state-regulated insurance plans. Or put simply, only 16 percent of Texans actually benefit from the cap. I can't imagine living in a country where whether everyone has the right to access life-saving drugs cost-free is even up for DEBATE! It just doesn't sound credible to someone who lives in the developed world.

The two doctors who 'invented' insulin sold the patent for $1 so it could be affordable to all. The US didn't get that memo.

While this is true it is about the pig insuline we used to have. But it had lots of very serious side issues. Modern insuline is made by genetically modified bacteria. Which isn't an excuse why it isn't affordable.

I live in Sweden with Medicare for all. We also have a maximum cost for prescription meds of $268 in a 12 month period. After that my prescriptions are free to the end of the 12 month period when it restarts. I take a lot of prescription medication to keep me alive so it took 3 months to hit the maximum which means 9 months of completely free meds. Should work that way in the usa

    Jessica Alyea

Germany has medical insurance for all as well. Each prescription you receive costs €5, no matter what it is. If you're on a limited income and have a lot of prescriptions, the insurance company will even make sure you don't have to pay the charge. I used to work in a clinic where they specialized in medical tourism, people came from all over the world for surgery. Sometimes family members, who weren't insured needed meds or treatment. Insulin costs like €15 a pen here, the vails are even cheaper. People from the US were always shocked how cheap medical care is.

I have an even better idea: let's all pay a fraction of a cent in taxes and make insulin free for all diabetics. Maybe we can agree to pay a whole few $$ more a year and make all life saving medications free for everybody that needs them? I would cut to the chase and make all medications free (at the point of sale), but I am sure there would be complaints from the "I don't want to pay for other people meds because if it doesn't affect me it's not my problem" crowd.

That's espacially sad cause most big stores would accept to prep your groceries in advance and put them in your trunk. Especially if you need help like by being elderly in a pandemic. I feel them though, it is hard to think through during such panick. I just hope they found a more reliable way to safely buy their groceries.

I have a cleaning business for the elderly. Since the pandemic, I grocery shop for most of my clients. They don't pay for that service. It's called being a decent human being and helping those in need. I also set aside an hour just to socialize with them as many have no one to talk to. I enjoy listening to them about " ths old day." By no means am I getting financially rich by doing this, but I am rewarded with great friends and stories. That's enough for me.

Because when he came out, people did care and did change their behaviour. People would be attacked, denied work, etc. It's much better now but homophobic attacks and bullying are still a thing. So we should normalise it as much as possible and even celebrate it, in order to change those last remaining public perceptions.

That is not true. One type of love produces the next generation one dosn't. They are very unequal on that level. Also you do know that pedophilia is a type of eros. Which is the love your mean so more accurately your slogan would be eros is eros. Did the creator that grants your inaliable rights not stamp an order to sex in the very form of our bodies? Is sex in our bodies or between our ears?

While this is a great sentiment and it had great intentions, it's not entirely true. Some people definitely do regret coming out - whether it be losing friends, being cut off from family, being kicked out of the house or abused, or many other reasons. So saying "I've never met a gay person who regretted coming out" comes off as a bit ignorant and privileged. It's not always safe to come out.

I regret coming out as trans to my parents. They said a lot of really terrible things to me and now I'm scared they're going to find out that I'm out as a guy at school and with all my friends. They all care about me and support me but aside from that, coming out just made me a lot more scared. That's my parents fault though.

I am so sorry that your parents did that to you! You should not have to be scared because of your parents. Yes it is your parent's fault, not yours. Be true to yourself and proud of who you are! This is from an old Christian lady who believes that we should all stop judging each other and love one another instead.

I grew up with a dad who was pretty handy around the house. Learned a lot from him. I thought this was normal for everyone. After I met my wife and sons I remember working on a car in the driveway and asked one of the boys to hand me a philips screwdriver. Kid had no idea what I wanted. Wife didn't know anything about tools either. It blew my mind, but I had dad in the back of my head telling me I didn't know anything (well the words I imagined from him were a little more colorful). Sat the boys down and went through my whole toolbox with them and got some loose nuts/bolts/screws etc and some scrap wood and started teaching them the basics

When I was pregnant with my second child I gained 70 pounds and ended up having him 3 weeks early by emergency c-section (cord wrapped around his neck and shoulder). I never lost all the weight no matter how hard I tried. My husband is a mechanic and where he worked at the time had calendars of girls in bikinis on almost all of the toolboxes. Someone asked him why he didn't have one on his toolbox and he said he didn't need one because he was married to a supermodel, then showed the guy a picture of me and our two children. The guy laughed at him and said " that's not a supermodel", to which my husband replied "she is to me!" We will be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary in September 2022....

I like the spirit of his comment, but the phrases "this woman has given all of herself to me" and "her body is mine" seem problematic. Nobody owns anyone's body but themselves, and language suggesting otherwise promotes codependency and unhealthy relating.

The terms he used to me are appropriate. "Her body is mine" is, as I tell my husband, for him only, and " has given all of herself to me" signifies a man who is confident in his wife's faithfulness and commitment to their marriage. Such a relationship is not all that common anymore and he is telling us how much he loved her and respects her.

This is such a lovely sentiment. I've been so self conscious about the weight I gained after pregnancy and, despite not eating much and moving regularly, have been unable to take off. Only in the last year or so have I said "F it" and gone back to my pre-pregnancy nudist ways 🤣 My husband will lay beside or on top of me and just squeeze me sometimes and there's nothing I love more than that...well, maybe when my son tells me I'm beautiful 🥰

The early teen years are really tough, but almost everyone grows out of it by the end of high school. Coincidentally, last week my fellow middle school classmates had a long thread about how they remember those years as being some of the toughest ever. It was a really eye opening conversation, many apologies... 40 years later! Keep your strength, and if you are feeling unsafe, please tell a trusted adult

My dad spent the past couple years of his life in the VA hospital. He was paralyzed in Vietnam at 20, and he had a host of health problems the last 15 years of his life. But in 2016, he apparently smacked his head on something, and developed a brain bleed. My mom called an ambulance, and he refused to be taken to the hospital 3 times despite being erratic for weeks. He developed memory issues, and motor control issues for awhile, i was living 7000 miles away in Europe, and my mom couldn't afford to spend $60 each way on cabs, or 3 hours taking buses to get down there more than once a week. A few weeks before he died, he was getting progressively worse (went on to find he had pancreatic cancer) was in a lot of pain, and couldn't remember what the doctors were saying and we could never talk to them. So i told him about the voice memo app on his phone. I told him to hit record when the doctors came in. He never did....but i did find his test recordings after he died.

This is a rare picture of how to properly care for a pet rabbit. No cage, a litter box, and even a stylish rug all for Mr. Bunny. Better believe he is chuffed, and luck too. Fun fact over 50% of rabbit owners do not know how to care for a bunny, the first mistake they all make is putting it in a cage.

I worked with a girl many years ago that had a pet rabbit and she also kept him out of a cage, he was litter box trained. She lived in an apartment over a small bar and you could see the bunny sitting in the window sometimes like a cat. It was so cute.

We did this for a 9-year-old girl with leukemia (and this was back when you had to have blood taken via needle instead of a painless cheek swab to get in the donor registry!) nearly 20 years ago in Massachusetts, USA. Lines out the door even though most of us had never met the family; it's what you do when an innocent kid is sick. I know we have issues, but it never occurred to me until these comments that people wouldn't believe Americans are capable of compassion for others. I proudly renewed my commitment to Be the Match every year since in case I do end up matching someone in need.

Happened at a BLM protest last year. Some more rowdy protestors took aim at a group of police officers and managed to corner 1. A group of big hard looking black men linked arms and would not let the cop get harmed. Beautiful show of humanity.

We were at a Gallagher show one time (the comedian who's known for smashing watermelons) and when the show started he encouraged everyone to move closer and fill the empty seats in front. In the middle of the show some people arrived and tried to claim their seats. He wasn't having that. He told them "No way you come in late to my show and make people move, go to the back"

YES! For many years now, I have had a rule - if I think something positive, or say something complimentary about someone to someone else, I have to find a way to tell that person directly. It can feel awkward to tell a stranger that their lipstick color suits them perfectly or that their hair looks amazing, or to seek out a store manager to tell them how great an employee just was, but IT. IS. WORTH. IT. And making it a habit means it comes more naturally now.

My family has always been very comfortable with expressing love. My wife's family not so much. On her b-day gave MIL a hug and said "love you mom" to her. My wife later told me her mom thought it was sweet, but made her really uncomfortable. Now that I think on it, I can't ever remember hearing her tell her parents she loves them

Tips for communicating clearly - whether because someone is still learning the language, or because they are hard of hearing, or because they have a learning disability or brain injury. Speak a little slower - not unnaturally slow - and face the person so they can see your lips (obvs that part doesn't apply if you're wearing a mask). Keep sentences SHORT and simple. If you have to ask them questions, make them yes or no answers if possible, or a simple choice between two things (eg instead of "What would you like to drink?" ask "Would you like tea? Or coffee?"). Avoid idioms, slang, and extra words. Be patient. Smile a lot.

    Story Time

    Story Time

One time I saw two young, black, females checking out at the grocery store (I’ll explain why I used these three descriptors later on in the caption). They had all of their groceries rang up and in bags already, when it came time to pay, they ran the debit card. It got declined, once, then twice. One sister looked at the other worriedly. I keyed in immediately. They tried another card, denied, once then twice. Then they pulled out the EBT card. I assumed they didn’t want to pull this out because of how some people look at people who use EBT cards (shame on THEM, not you). There wasn’t enough on it to cover the bill. They looked at each other with tears in their eyes and shrugged, half “Oh well”, half “Oh my god, what are we gonna do?”. I stepped in immediately and said “Please let me help you”. I mentioned they were young black and female because I’m an older white male, and I know that sometimes help can be seen as an act of pity, which in my case it was not at all. I wasn’t insinuating they couldn’t take care of themselves, I was just a human being watching two other human beings struggle. They seemed shocked but allowed me to help. We parted ways, but as God would have it, we wound up parked right next to each other. They were still sitting there because they were crying. Their mother had just died. They didn’t know how they were going to eat that night, or any of the following nights. I forgot the girls name, but we briefly connected on here. If you see this, please send me a dm to let me know how you and your sister are doing. Sorry for the long caption but this video hit me hard.

While this is true it should be kept in mind only ONE side tried to overthrow their government, only ONE side says "all lives matter" in response to someone saying "black lives matter", only ONE side is trying to disenfranchise black people's ability to vote as a matter of POLICY. You are only as strong as your weakest link.

Thousands of people united to try to overthrow the government and dozens or hundreds of politicians won’t condemn them, with thousands more citizens thinking they were right to do so or else blaming other people for it. Saying “there’s a gray line in the middle” is just chickenshit at this point. There was a gray line in the middle decades ago. The gray line is no longer in the middle.

There's a video of them taking this photograph. And then they show the photograph to the two boys in the front and the dad to check it out to see if it looks okay. Meanwhile the tall one in the back had ducked hiding out of sight. So when the two boys look at the photograph, they saw their big brother in the picture but they didn't see their brother when they looked around. It took a moment for them to realize that he had just been in the photo and that he is there. It's a beautiful little video clip. I probably watched it 10 times.
