When Twitter user Ash shared a pic of a friend's cat, she probably didn't think it would go viral. However, the black kitty who got its front legs shaved for surgery was precisely what the Internet needed. Ash's tweet went viral and as of this article, it has over 470K likes.
The best part, however, is the replies. Other people whose cats are in a similar predicament started responding with their photos as well. From losing their pants to getting their out-of-shape bellies exposed, most of the shots are less than flattering, too. Something tells me the felines are already plotting a revenge plan to get back at the people spreading their photos.

Here comes my Vet Nurse here, again. THE ONLY REASON TO SHAVE A CATS PAWS LIKE THIS IS TO DO A DECLAW. SHAME ON THIS PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!
Upon receiving more information, this I am assuming is not an American cat (where it is still legal to declaw) and the shave job done is just really weird, never seen a shave job like this for anything other than a declaw surgery.
Load More Replies...I hope they didn't declaw their cats. (Declawing removes the entire first joint and causes pain and arthritis)
Could we agree on bored panda not to show declawed cats? This is just horrible... And should not be nr 1!
According to Dr. Marci Koski, a certified feline behavior and training consultant, cats dislike going to the vet for a lot of reasons. "First off, cats are creatures of habit, and they have typically not been trained to enjoy car rides or going to new places," Koski told Bored Panda, acknowledging that sometimes there are exceptions.
"Cats are used to hanging out in their home or on their property (if allowed outside), and when they are snatched out of their familiar environment, shoved into a box, loaded into a car, bounced around, then brought into a vet office with lots of new smells and sounds of dogs barking and cats meowing, their fear and anxiety level skyrockets."
To make a trip to the vet less stressful, Natalie Cady Bishop of Cat Behavior Solved advises to get the critters acclimated to their carrier first. "You can do this by keeping the carrier out in the main area of your house," Cady Bishop told Bored Panda. "Many owners keep the carrier in the garage and only bring it out when they have to try to put their cat in it to take them somewhere. The cat then associates the carrier with scary experiences. Keep the carrier open (and if the top opens, keep that opened as well)."
Put your cat's bedding in the carrier, too. The scent is very important to these animals. You can also add their favorite toys or catnip inside. If your cat likes to hang out and even naps in the carrier, award it with treats. From time to time, you can even close the door of the carrier as well, following with more treats!
"When the cat is used to that, try taking her out to the car and going around the block - teach her that not all car rides end at the vet's office!" Dr. Koski added. "When you're in the car, Feliway spray (sprayed on a blanket in the carrier) can really help, as can soft music. Make sure the temperature of the car is comfortable before putting your cat in, too."
If at any point your pet shows fear or stress, take a step back and go even slower.
My cat recently had surgery. I hope his fur grows back quickly.
When my cat's butt got shaved I laughed everytime I saw him for the first week.
I KNOW! my poor chonky long haired Maine C**n got his entire ‘nether region’ shaved for an op, and it was simultaneously both ‘ewww seriously???’ , and ‘CAN’T STOP CHECKING OUT HIS BUTT CHEEKS!’
Load More Replies..."Finally, there are many cat-only veterinary clinics; there may be some in your area," Dr. Koski pointed out. "These vets know how to create a calm and soothing waiting area (no barking dogs!), and know how to gently handle cats. Bring the surface and treats that you've previously used at home with your cat's treatment station, and your cat will have a sense of familiarity about the process and the environment since there will be familiar smells, tastes, and textures. Many veterinarians are also Fear Free certified!" To find them, simply go to FearFreeHappyHomes.com. There's also a ton of videos and articles that show you how to teach your cat that going to see the vet and getting treatment or care isn't something to be feared.
Our little buddy had to have a few surgeries. His haircut was... Less than flattering.
I think that's his incision. I just checked our shaved cat and they don't look like they have bellybuttons
Load More Replies...You sholud put two ping pong balls on top of it for better impression.
These boots are made for walking and that's just what they'll do. One if these days at 3 am they're gonna walk all over you
I don't believe any decent vet would advocate the shaving of a long haired cat for any reason other than for surgery preparation.
Most people don't know that a cat's fur actually helps them stay cool in hot weather. People look at them and imagine wearing a fur coat in the heat, but it's really not the same for cats. I worked at a vet and the only time we shaved a cat was for surgery or sometimes we'd give them a sanitary cut if they had problems with grooming.
Load More Replies...These boots look like the expensive-will-never-be-able-to-afford-them kind haha
don't take it as offensive, it's like a joke or a tease
Load More Replies...Poor kitty doesn't look too well - hope he gets better soon. And yeah, our shaved kitty has udders, too. But she's ginger - she doesn't look like a Holstein 😸
never shave your cat because you think its hot that fur is insulating for heat as well as cold
these boots are made for walking and thats just what thell do.but one of these days at 3am thell walk all over you
when i was a baby my parents had a cat that would come and go as he pleased. his name was Lewis and his tongue hung out. they have a bunch of pictures of him and their friends with all their tongues out and the cat is just looking at the camera like he's done with life. so sad that i missed that cat.
I had to put my boy in a onesie so he wouldn't lick his abscess surgery site. He hated it, I loved it.
My 16 year boy looking like he is the toughest cat on the block after his tooth removal surgery.
He does look tougher than he is..a great old man a lioness look..
A couple of months post-surgery and Nugget is finally getting his fur back.
depends on the cat actually. Ours had her fur back within 3 months.
Load More Replies...My kitty lounging on the floor after his surgery... Yea, he's still a little high on pain killers, but he's a champ.
Why no collar on him? He is going to go after those stitches for sure.
Mine didn’t had a collar and didn’t need too stitch. Well once or 2 but I played with her and she forgot about it ;)

You know what I think it looks like? A sphinx cat who has found a costume of a tabby cat but it's falling apart
Kudos to all these folks who give their kitties the medical care they need.
Your boy is a trend-setter, next year, all the best-dressed cats in town...
We had to shave our long haired cat too. It's like she's embarrassed, doesn't want to be touched, even her meow sounds different. I call her Saggy Naggy when she's shaved. I've been keeping up on her brushing so hopefully I don't have to pay for the world's most expensive haircut anymore.
Millie my 14 year old moggy had a THIRD shave in 2 years. She will not let anyone groom her and doesn’t clean or groom herself. We’ve tried everything but if she thinks you’re approaching her with anything resembling a brush or comb she goes into attack mode - usually straight for your face. Thank goodness I wear glasses!
My cat got sick from looking like this. Done by a groomer. I was so pissed off. They did not tell me they would be doing this..
I'm going to use this word from now on. Lumpectomy is a great word
Load More Replies...It's like one of those paintings that have eyes that follow you around the room. No matter what angle I look at this cat from, the fur seems to shift and follow.
That is a serious surgery but I am sure he is off an running around again as cats do..
He looks like a recent hire from IT who has been sent to tell you what stupid thing you've done to your computer.
"Oh yeah that well you see my hooman took me to the.. Vet and the Vet went all feral and ripped my shirt"
never go to the vet. prevent your pets to be tramautized.
Load More Replies...Is this still legal? It's banned in Europe. A vet will lose their license if they do this.
Load More Replies...The expression on the ginger cats face is devastating. Nothing funny in that photo. 😿
Possibly this was grooming to remove mats, or to make them more comfortable in hot weather. I hope it wasn't meant to be a cosmetic grooming, because it failed if so.
Load More Replies...My longhair got outand now we're going to have to shave the back end for mats. Sing, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!
That is a very strange grooming...more like shaving most of the fur with non matching boots
I'm claiming Mummy's bed - she better not throw me off, because I deserve it today.
Nah. It's just a torti spot. I had a tortoise shell cat with a couple of tan colored toes just like the one on this fancy lady.
Load More Replies...Well, s/he ain't got no shoulder blades to hold it up. Or channeling Jennifer Beals from Flashdance.
Load More Replies..."Cone breaks only last a few minutes as Bax is desperate to lick his wound! We have an inflatable collar arriving today so I hope this helps with eating and drinking! 2 more days before we see the vet"
That is a different cone. At least she can see. Everyone I had an animal in a cone, they constantly got it caught or bumped into something. I just felt bad they were bumping into things and they did not understand why.
Mine is exactly the same. Got her when she was 9. Hates being brushed.
Mine used to hate it and had to have her tummy shaved a few times. Now she mostly complains a lot, but let me brush her and I just have to cut matted hair balls from time to time.
Load More Replies...I have an appointment with a groomer for my catPC. He is a short hair orange kitty but he has two large mats on his back that need to come off. Going to cancel the groomer. He is due to be seen by the vet I will have the vet just shave his back. I don't want this cut for him. I don't think it's cute. My cat will get cold. I live in AZ and AC is a necessity.
As hilarious as some of these pictures are, it needs to be said that the only reason to shave a cats fur is medical! Please do not shave your cat without recommendation from your vet - not because you think she's too warm and especially not because you think a lion cut is cute! Cats regulate their body temperature through their fur, and losing part of it will make them feel very vulnerable and confused.
I think it depends on the cat too, my long haired cat loves to be shaved in the summer and gets excited when the buzzer sound turns on. He gets overheated with all the fur on hot days. After he is shaved you can see the mood change and hes able to run around more freely. My short hair cat however hates it, doesn't get over heated, so I don't trim his hair.
Load More Replies...Shaving a cat's leg and leaving "socks" is for IVs and such. Shaving the entire paw to the elbow or knee, that's for a declaw surgery. Some of these people are deplorable, ignorant a******s
Yes. Declawing should be illegal worldwide. There is no reason (beneficial to the cat) to declaw a cat. Just carefully trim their nails if you're that worried about your precious furniture.
Load More Replies...Here's my kitty after a trip to the hospital. He kept showing me his arm like, "look what you did to me...I trusted you." IMG_5158-5...f-jpeg.jpg
These make me a bit sad...because I know most of them are for sad/medical reasons. Poor little kitties!
My kitty got her belly shaved for surgery about a year ago... she's still bald because she keeps licking that area!
Get her a t-shirt so the skin stops being aggitated. It's a vicious circle and can lead to infections if she starts scratching too.
Load More Replies...They're sedated when they're shaved. Unless it's just for an IV. If I tried that on one of our cats, I'd be the one going to Urgent Care 😸
