What I find amusing is that in my paternal grandparents' marriage - very traditional - my grandfather would give my grandmother all the money he earned and she gave HIM an allowance. After all, he was at work all day while she had to go to the bank to pay bills, buy groceries, deal with handymen or delivery people, take the kids to the doctor or give them money for an excursion at school. My grandfather didn't NEED to have much money on him. He came home to a nice meal, and if he wanted a beer, my grandmother had one in the cellar. She even saved money for presents to family and vacations, so he used most of his allowance to buy her flowers and chocolates. This traditional way of running a family can work if the partners respect each other.

What... who thinks like this?! In our house, all money is OUR money. We can spend a little bit, but mostly we're sensible and make sure bills etc are covered and if we want to buy something we talk to each other. It's called a team! Other people just contribute their share of bills and anything leftover is theirs - they worked for it. And that works too!
