I Paint With Tea To Create Steampunk Art
17Kviews
I’m a story artist for Disney animation by day but by night I like to unwind with a nice cup of tea...to paint with.
I’ve been a fan of steampunk ever since I was introduced to it while working on the film, Atlantis the lost empire. I was looking for ways to create my own little world within the genre and I discovered that I could create a vintage look by painting with the tea itself.
It took some trial and error to figure out which teas had the best color (earl grey and green tea. Darjeeling is nice too) once I found the right blend I let it steep for at least 2 hours for maximum saturation. Occasionally I add just a bit of watercolor to bring in some darker values but the tea tends to work great just on its own.
I hope you enjoy the art as much as I enjoyed creating them, I’m just sorry you can’t experience how good they smell when I was painting them. Cheers.
