Countries With School Shootings (Total Incidents From Jan 2009 To May 2018)
I'll never get how ANYONE could still think or communicate that owning *more* guns would make schools a safer place. How obvious does it get?
The GQP simply doesn't care. NRA makes them lots and lots of money.
Load More Replies...Me: "If only the gun laws ..." - Gun nut: "School shootings have nothing to do with guns!" - Me: "What about bullets? Do they play any role in this?"
Sell guns, ban bullets soznds like a plan ... (comes with the risk that people start manufacturing their own)
Load More Replies...Looking at history, the guns make sense. People "conquer" an area and the only way to deal with the pissed off natives and nature, who have no desire to be conquered and their land stolen, is killing them. By this a culture of using weapons is solidly established as a standard, acceptable manner of how to deal with unpleasant situations. At a certain piont there are no natives or nature left to fend off, but feeling unsecure without a gun is so deeply rooted in society (i.e. a society where everybody could be your enemy with a weapon), that most people just simply cannot let go. However, Australia and New Zealand, with a comparable conquering history, found a sound way to deal with this issue a lot faster.
How long ago did people have to fend for themselves with guns in the US? Seriously? And the wars in Europe somehow made Europeans more conscious with guns whereas American treat guns as toys because war is what happens to other people? And that's why shooting people seems to be a viable solution to problems and nobody bats an eye?
Load More Replies...The bar lengths don't match the scale. If they did, the disparity would look even worse.
They don't, not legally. It's some heavy mandatory prison time to sell to a minor. Also, the graph didn't indicate the age of the shooters at all
Load More Replies...I think they know perfectly well what a problem it is. I think their profits just makes them not give one single fυck.

I like that they're common flowers, not something I have to order from a specialized nursery.
They're probably indigenous to the area also making them water friendly and drought resistant.

Gordon Ramsay And Martha Stewart Are Being Outperformed By Doña Angela, A Grandma From Rural Mexico And Her Daughter's Phone Camera
Joshua Weissman's channel is awesome. I found his commentary a tad annoying at first, but now I find it endearing. He has several good series; my favorite is "...But Better," in which he makes a fast food item from scratch (and, obviously, it's better).
The Data is Beautiful subreddit was created in February 2012, and it’s amassed an impressive 19.4 million members since then. The group’s description explains that it’s for “visualizations that effectively convey information”, and notes that, “Aesthetics are an important part of information visualization, but pretty pictures are not the sole aim of this subreddit.” So while you might find these pics stunning, you’re also going to learn something. The moderators note in the subreddit’s rules that posts must contain a “qualifying data visualization”, which, for the purposes of this subreddit, means no photographs.
“Fake data, goofball statistics, and trivial analysis” are also not welcome in Data is Beautiful. The information shared must be based on real or simulated data, a mapping of information to a visual property, must be more than “dots on a map”, must be made with the intent to communicate data, and must be comprehensible based on the visual and labels included.
Abortion Deaths In The USA (1968-2018)
Now let’s overlay pregnancy and child birth related deaths in states that have banned or near banned abortions except in case of harm to the mother, forcing medical staff to wait until a woman has SEPSIS to terminate an non-viable pregnancy. Fecking freaking religious zealot IDIOTS.
Better birth control, better womens rights, less abortions, that´s it.
Too bad that graph will go up and to the right pretty soon.
image that.. providing safe abortions stopped so many women from dying.... wow
And how much of that drop is due to increased advances in medicine and diagnostics?

It's easy. You choose three shorter words that you can make into a story in your head and squash them together. For example BlueCrocusP!ll0w. Unbreakable and quite easy to remember.

Yeah, but not all lung cancer is caused by smoking. Does this chart include only those that are ex-smokers? Edited to add : I looked it up. About 20% are non smokers and that is rising.
so it takes 30 years for lung cancer to manifest? Am I reading this right?
Looks like a 30 year lag from the average individual smoking to dying from lung cancer. Could also add the shareholder dividends from tobacco companies.
We’ve previously covered Data is Beautiful on Bored Panda over the past couple years, and in the past, we were lucky enough to get in touch with the group’s moderators to learn more about running this informational subreddit. The moderators previously shared with Bored Panda that they hold high standards for the community, ensuring that members are treated as “first-class citizens” who are always credited and acknowledged for their work.
“We bring a data-centric view of the world to millions of people every day—from important information about the COVID-19 pandemic all the way to a random dude's daily bowel movements—and our community prides itself in that fact,” one moderator previously shared. “For example, we had community members posting analyses and projections of COVID-19 trends back in January and February 2020—well before anyone in the U.S. was taking the pandemic seriously. /r/DataIsBeautiful is THE place to go when you want to see the signal through the noise of hectic daily life.”
Japan's Work To Reduce Homelessness
Japan had less homeless people in their entire country in 2007 than my town had sleeping in a football field parking lot during Covid. They set up beds there in alternate parking spots because the indoor shelters weren't large enough to maintain social distancing. Please note it was beds,. not tents.
Strict drug laws help, of course. But the main reason Japan has so few reported homeless people is that the social stigma of being homeless is practically unbearable. People live in cyber cafes.
I wonder if that stigma attributes to their suicide rate
Load More Replies...So the whole of Japan (population 125M) has fewer homeless people than my city (population 9M). Just wow...
Which country was it that just ended homelessness? Like, by giving everyone free housing? And it actually cost less than the alternative? I want to say Finland.
Japan is a first world country, while the US has become a third world nation with cell phones.
Young Adults Are Leading The Mass Exodus From Christianity In The Us
Leaving Christianity does not mean that one loses faith in a God. Many people still believe in a God, creator or higher power of some kind. What they are leaving is organised religion. This is due to the behaviour of so called, 'Christians' and or the scandals of churches and church officials.
I think religious books should be placed in the "Fiction" section at bookstores.
Okay, so the chart says "religiously affiliated" - not "Christian." While Christianity makes up a large portion of religions in the US, it isn't the only religion. Still impressive, though.
I became an Atheist at 9, and spent the next 25 years of my life forcing myself to believe because my mother…well, anyway. The second I came out of the Atheist closet was one of the most freeing of my life.
The Popularity Of The Name "Mabel" In The United States Skyrocketed After Gravity Falls Came Out
I love it! I don't know about waddles.
Load More Replies...Gravity falls is a show with one of the main characters named Mabel 🤗🩷
Load More Replies...I think this is more correlation than causation...a lot of "old people" names had a resurgence in popularity in the last decade...
There is however a definite correlation between the years that Jane Austen's Emma appears on GCSE syllabus, and a decade later it appears in cradles
Load More Replies...It's a lovely name-some people think its French origin and means "beautiful' (as in "Belle") but its medieval English and means loveable/adorable.
I named my baby Mabel in 2006 before it became cool again. But that's because on the show Mad About You they named their little girl Mabel because it stood for Mothers Always Bring Extra Love and I just adored that!!!!
According to the moderator team of Data is Beautiful, the subreddit receives between 400-500 submissions every week, and in one given month, they had 2,370 approvals, removals and spam posts. Meanwhile, the number of comments the subreddit receives is far too many to count, with an estimate of over 100k. And the rules of the group are frequently being assessed and improved by the moderators. “For example, we no longer allow YouTube videos as it was being abused by content creators looking for subs on their channel,” one moderator previously told Bored Panda. “We also occasionally temporarily prohibit specific subjects, like Tinder or dating posts, when a topic overwhelms the subreddit although dating posts are allowed again.”
Costco Hot Dog Combo vs. Inflation
Like the roasted chicken in the back of the store, the hot dog is a loss leader to get you in the door. The money they lose on that hotdog is vastly overshadowed by the profit they make on the $200 of crab legs for Sunday dinner and the new lawn furniture worth $2k you're now buying because your spouse decided to come in with you to get a hot dog.
Agreed. And to their credit they freely admit it. Optical and Pharmacy (also maybe hearing) are basically non-profit (not sure the right word) - again with the thought it will get you in the store and you will shop while your prescription if being filled.
Load More Replies...Costco markup is overall really small. A vast majority of their profits come from the membership fees.
I read that when the CEO of Sams Club or Costco sold his business there was a stipulation in the contract that they could NOT raise the price of the hot dog and drink ever.
Out of curiosity, do you have to have a membership? If so, has the price of the membership increased?
You don't need a membership to get food from the food court, see the pharmacy, or the optometrist. Many also will allow you into their liquor area without a membership.
Load More Replies...yeah they get applause for not raising the price of a hot dog combo, but what about everything else they sell in that fu¢king place? people are so stupid
Like everything else sold everywhere, a lot of their prices have gone up. But price hike at Costco is relatively low compared to regular grocery stores.

The population density of the entire world is like this. It's almost as if we need water to survive.
Real question here, to the east of the Nile is what looks like the ghost of an old river system. What's that all about?
You mean all those thinner lines? That is the coastline to the Red Sea.

“We also only allow personal posts (posts about the poster such as miles jogged over a year, as an example) on Mondays, which I believe we instituted during my tenure,” one moderator added. “That's just a flavor of the types of rules we add, adjust, or remove over time. Rule changes are done by consensus of the mods and we will often spend days or weeks deciding on new rules and how to word them.”

Titanic Survival By Gender And Class. Learning R For The First Time And The Power Of Ggplot
it was women and baby's first, class would be very interesting too
Load More Replies...Which information does the horizontal spread in female/male contain? One dot equals ...? 10 people?
I'd guess 1 dot= 1person as that fits the number (it's clearly far over 200 dots, so it cannot be 10). I don't think the horizontal spread means anything; boat-ticket-price would be the correct choice (you'd have different survival rates as they were on different decks). I suspected first all people were ordered by age, then added left-to-right horizontally in the correct height, then spread evenly over the chosen width (few 2-y-olds, spread sparsely; many 25y olds, spread densely), and only then separated male/female, then coloured survived/died... but that doesn't explain the left/right spread near the top. Maybe it IS ticket price, and that turns out to be quite irrelevant for survival?
Load More Replies...Women and children were lowered into the lifeboats first (though that wasn't the case for every woman and child) so it isn't surprising to see that the data clearly shows that they had a higher survival rate.
Why is there a gender axis? Are some passengers more or less female or male?
Probably to better portray density of age groups without making the graph looking like an ungainly blob. Gender politics aside, I don't think it matters if anyone is on the left or right of each gender pillar.
Load More Replies...Well, certainly: it's always women and children first, and the crew goes down with the ship.
They were prioritized on the lifeboat... and didn't know that two person could fit in that stupid door! :D
Do You Belief In Ghosts?
I'm at 0% and I only have a Bachelor of Arts. Ghosts don't make sense. "Ghosts are people who died with unresolved issues." Dude. Everyone dies with unresolved issues; death is a surprise to everyone. Also, why does no one ever see '70s punk ghosts? '20s flapper ghosts? '50s teeny bopper ghosts? Grunge lead singer ghosts? Nope. It's always "Victorian" which, to most people, means floor-length dresses and archaic-looking suits regardless of actual period.
Load More Replies...Life is made of energy. It has to go somewhere. I don’t rule them out. Says the Atheist with a college education.
Jimmy Carr on ghosts: "It's easy to tell if your house is haunted, it isn't...grow up."
It's funny, I don't know how to put this in a way that doesn't come off mean or whatever so I'm just gonna go for it: A lot of people with a Phd in science fields are heavily passionate about science and facts that can be determined, instead of things which cannot. This doesn't mean their right or wrong though. But that could influence the graph. Has nothing to do with any actual truth. You'd have to die to know for sure. Lowkey as a pagan, it's annoying when people say things like ghosts/fae/etc don't exist not being real is fact, when there's just simply no way humans will ever know (until death at least). Now on a personal level, I think there's too much anecdotal evidence to completely dismiss in. Sure some may be ill, or experiencing a group hallucination or something, but ALL of them over millions of years? Somehow I doubt it. Heavily.
Would be interesting to see the same graph re: deities and education level.
I was thinking same thing. Church goers and education level.
Load More Replies...It simply doesn't make any logical sense... where are all the dinosaur ghosts at?
Dinosaur ghost, next time I get banned from Bored Panda, that's my new name, thank you
Load More Replies...I'd be a non-believer except a second house on our family farm property was haunted and and over 50 years different tenants kept hearing the same voices and kitchen noises. I would LOVE to have a logical explanation for that.
Get unbiased and professional people and do a thorough examination - you’ll get the logical explanation you want. People always, always do. Every time examination and research has ever been done. In the whole history of ever.
Load More Replies...And while the moderators are constantly working hard to ensure that the subreddit is functioning as perfectly as possible, due to the sheer amount of content, they can’t filter through every single post. “Most posts are visible immediately, however, we also utilize AutoMod to ‘filter’ out posts that likely violate a rule,” one moderator previously explained to Bored Panda. “Speaking of AutoMod, we heavily rely on it to filter, or make invisible, both posts and comments based on keywords, user karma, and URL links (to name a few) which then have to be manually approved before they are visible. We also utilize it to automatically remove posts that violate our rules (e.g., YouTube links or directly linking an image and not claiming [OC]) so we mods don't even have to see them.”

Highest Paid Actors For A Single Production
SLAY! but on a serious note this is so frustrating
Load More Replies...Most of these were because they took a % of the gross revenue from the box office success, not a flat salary
This is a bad graph. First, the data plotted doesn't match it s purported source (Wikipedia). Said source is known to be unreliable. The labelling is not consistent nor the units of measurement. Most importantly, the values are very wrong.
I would add it also doesn't say if these numbers were adjusted for inflation.
Load More Replies...Covid-19 Accounted For More Line-Of-Duty Police Deaths Last Year Than All Other Causes Combined
How many of them were killed by someone who chose violence over wearing a mask?
Yep. Was also going to say there was a strikingly high number of police not masking, so no surprise here
Load More Replies...How do we distinguish the covid deaths in the line of duty as opposed to exposure by being a member of the populace overall exactly?
I do this stuff for a living... We do contact tracing to determine the vector of infection. Also, certain law enforcement officers have a legal presumption that if they get COVID, it's in the line of duty unless proven otherwise. Depends on the state laws.
Load More Replies...As far as growth is concerned in this subreddit, it’s been pretty steady, according to the moderators. They shared that it started to slow down in 2017 and 2018, but since the last time we featured Data is Beautiful, the subreddit has gained over 3 million members, so it has definitely continued its growth over the years. The moderators also previously told Bored Panda that, “The way Reddit works, the subscriber count isn't all that important above a certain point, which is enough to get on r/all and/or the front page. That hits on a topic most of the more serious subreddits face: good content vs popular content.”
Actors/Actresses With The Most Oscar Wins
Meryl Streep has had the most oscar nomination with 21. Katherine Hepburn had 12 nomination and Jack Nicholson has had 12 nomination.
Doesn't it look like they used they used Sally Field's photo for Shelley Winters?
USA: Who Do We Spend Time With Across Our Lifetimes?
Does sleeping count as 'alone'? The numbers don't add up to 24x60 = 1440min/day; or if subtracting 8h sleep (optimistic!) nowhere near 960min. Older people sleep less so the totals should go up, here that's well below 800min for the oldest so doesn't really fit.
Yeah the graph is kind of misleading because for most of your life you aren't spending most of your time alone. The combined value of the coworkers and partner or children would typically exceed time spent alone but the graph makes it seem like most of your time is spent alone. Plus, does time with children sometimes include time with partner? I don't think it's the best representation
Load More Replies...It's sad to see that more people spend time with their coworkers than with their family, friends, and children.
Sadly, the chart is about lonely old people, not about introverts.
Load More Replies...That drop off after 75 of spending time with partner. Didn't realise the divorce rate was so high among the elderly.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, or just forgot death exists.
Load More Replies...All you people shouting how happy you are being alone/introverted actually need human interaction. This site, for example. Who would you talk to if no one was on it?
The quarantines did prove quite effectively that even the highly introverted need people. However I'd like to point out that the primary defining factor of introverts is that they also need time alone - extroverts recharge energy by being with people and introverts recharge by being alone. Various obligations usually have us alone less than we prefer, so I can understand the general "alone == good" mentality. But you're right, being alone too much is also bad. Balance in all things, I suppose, for both types of people, even if the ideal % differs slightly.
Load More Replies...Why isn't my cat on this graph? Though I guess alone and cat would almost completely overlap.
It's only because "Alone" does not say "with screen." You are not REALLY alone with a screen...
Does Healthcare Spending Correlate With Life Expectancy?
Tens of millions would prefer to give corporations their money rather than healthcare to people they think don't "deserve" it.
Largely because the health insurance industry disseminates loads and loads of propaganda, and large swaths of the country have no access to media which would refute it.
Load More Replies...Exactly. The US is a really young country, why are we not looking at who is doing it right and doint that? Scandinavia is an example of how to do many things right.
Load More Replies...This graph seems to be assuming quality of health care is the only factor on life expectancy. Pollution, climate, wars, etc. And of course lifestyle. USA health care could be free and twice as good and still have people dying from to much twinkies, chicken nuggets and alcohol.
I mean, you're not wrong, but there are enough data points here to get an idea of the general pattern when you ignore outliers. I expect you agree that the USA is a clear outlier. The question is, do you think the things you point out here are enough to fully explain why it is such an outlier? Keeping in mind that there are other countries very similar to USA in such things, e.g. Canada. We're the same in pretty much every important way except gun control and health care. So which are you dying from? The guns or the health care?
Load More Replies...so instead of trying to force american healthcare to be more like norways... the salespitch should be that american healthcare should be more like.... greece?
More like Croatia, even Greece does way better. The only thing usa is best at is how overpriced it is. Not even Switzerland is as expensive
Load More Replies...Typical USA. Just have to be f*****g different, usually to your own fault!
The moderators also noted that they work “above and beyond and really keep the community moving.” And as far as what’s popular in the community, there’s a wide variety of charts being shared. A couple of years ago, COVID posts had a massive spike, understandably, but today there are different trends. And when it comes to what type of graphs are ideal for the page, one moderator previously told Bored Panda, “Pies and bars certainly both have their uses, but we've all seen the results of tortured dataviz, and I think that's where something like the pie chart gets a bad rap.”
What Foreign Ways Of Doing Things Would Americans Embrace?
Ok, now I'm puzzled and I haven't been in US in 14 years: you still cannot send people money just straight account to account? You people are a leader in IT, technology, whatever sector, how is this possible??
It's possible, but not common. And probably has fees. And good luck getting the other person to give you their bank details so you can set up the transfer, they will think you are trying to scam them.
Load More Replies...where's the healthcare system? where's gun laws? where's reasonable serving sizes? To controversial to ask?

I really don't get the electric kettle one. Me - American living in USA - has an electric kettle. DUH! If you want one then go to the store and purchase one. It's a bit like saying "don't you wish you could get chopsticks in America?" Well, you can. So if you want them go buy some.
Why no roundabouts? So much better.. traffic is more fluent and less accidents.
Roundabouts aren't common in most parts of the US and most Americans aren't really familiar with how they work. Until the locals get used to them, they actually cause *more* accidents.

Global Wealth Inequality In 2021 Visualized By Comparing The Bottom 80% With Increasingly Smaller Groups At The Top Of The Distribution
We really need to start focusing all our outrage energy in the direction of the obscenely rich.
Important to see but I'd rather see the worldwide average for median used, e.g. 88% bottom = 12% top and then coloured to show countries above and below this line. It'd be a good way to look at the concentration of countries that are more or less than this (obscene) wealth metric.

What Job Hunting Has Been Like As A 2020 Graduate So Far
I have an MLIS in archiving and digital archiving (digital asset management) with a bachelors, associates, and professional certification in digital archives; 6 semesters of mostly unpaid internships with special collections/archives in museums and library councils. Graduated in 2019 and was applying for jobs the last six months of my degree until I finally got a job in December of 2021. Applied for at least 300 jobs in academia, heritage institutions (museums), national/state archives, and the corporate sector (digital asset management) all over the US. I maybe had 15 interviews, 5 second interviews (one with the library of Congress) and one job offer. I still work at that job, which is corporate sector digital asset management. It doesn't matter how specific of a career field you have. EVERYONE is applying for hundreds of jobs with a very little success rate (interview).
Load More Replies...There are also a lot of scammers posting fake job ads on sites like indeed..
Not all of them are scams, but still "fake." For example, my employer had to post the job that we had already acknowledged I would have (department and title change). I don't really understand the necessity of it, but the job was technically already taken when they posted it.
Load More Replies...If that’s the case they are doing it wrong you should tailor your CV for each job you apply for. If you have everything listed that the company wants, you will get at least an interview most of the time
With a college degree, you're competing against a much smaller group of candidates for much higher paying jobs. Keep looking and don't get discouraged.
Relocate.. some places will pay you to move there and work.. Vermont paid like 10-15k to relocate because we have low populations. There are maybe 20 plus states in the USA that will do this with varying incentives. Some are lower cash options but maybe acreage or business opportunities. Please don't give up broaden your boundaries.
Easier said than done. Relocating involves a lot of money and time. It's not as though one can simply pile one's worldly goods into a couple suitcases and hop on a bus. Also, if you pull up your stakes you are leaving behind a lot of friends, and possibly family.

Yes because in India it's very common to have a maid do the laundry. Many clothes are washed by hand due to nature of fabric or style of clothes or simply person preference / lack of affordability. some believe that clothes will be spoilt if washed in the machine.

Surge In Egg Prices In The U.s
eggs hit, doesn't mean another word for poop, there was probably a space between the s and h, censorship is getting a bit mad.
I've seen the original chart, and you're correct: "eggs hit" is the wording. Censorship IS getting a bit mad.
Load More Replies...Big egg producers were hit with the bird flu scare. Culled their entire flocks. Once the big egg producers get their new chickens old enough to lay again (7-9 months) the price should go down.
They were near 10$ a dozen here in southern Vermont at it's highest...
This graph points to the avian flu as the reasoning for the increased prices, but this is not the whole story. The Federal Trade Commission has been called to investigate Cal Maine Foods, the largest egg producer, on accusations of price gouging, as Cal Maine has experienced a ten-fold increase in profits.
On top of that, where I live they passed a law that all eggs sold have to be cage free and locally sourced…then 90% of the laying population was killed due to avian flu. They rolled back the locally sourced regulation, but eggs hit 6, 7 dollars a dozen. Except Costco! You can still get 2doz for 6 bucks.
Load More Replies...Eggs in California went up because of the law requiring cage free eggs now. So its in addition to the inflation cost increase.

A Comparison Of Nato And Russia's Military Strength
Only takes one nuke.... So sad the all this money is not used for a greater good. Iran & Afganistan have cost over 2 trillion dollars. That's 1,000,000,000,000. That's ~ 3000 USD for ever American. Enough to have completely phased out fossil fuels and transition to renewables. Imagen the US economy if instead of blowing that money on a war it had gone into energy independence.
I love how you’re blaming the US after seeing this graphic and not Russia?!? I mean BP will stop at nothing to trash the US. It’s literally NATO vs RUSSIA and that’s what you get out of it? You are gross.
Load More Replies...Because it's not a personal thing. The next president will also dislike the fact that nato is bulking its bases too close to the Russian borders although it literally promised not to.

That's kind of sad for Hispanics. Positive representation in mass media is an important thing for everyone.
"Hispanic"is not a race. Someone who's Hispanic can be white, black, Native American, Asian, ...
Load More Replies...The current trend seems to be over representing black people to show how woke your company is. Recently I was walking down aisles at Target and walked past about 8 different in store advertising posters and every single one of them had black people on it. My area is a mix of people but it's predominantly white as compared to say some place like parts of Oakland CA. Nothing wrong with black models but the reason behind the choices was pretty transparent. EDIT to clarify those Target posters had only black people. No white people at all. Weird for a city whose demographics are - "White: 82.13% Asian: 5.94% Two or more races: 5.78% Other race: 3.48% Black or African American: 1.6% Native American: 0.91% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.15%"
They should add the percentages of those populations that watch the Superbowl. I'm assuming that is a big factor for advertisers.
Me thinks thou doth protest too much. They're trying to prove they're not racist by casting a large percentage of black people.
Richest Billionaire In Each State
Nobody needs that much money. There should be a cap on how much money a person can have, because billionaires are manipulating the world to their advantage.

The U.S. House Of Representatives Voted Tuesday To Statutorily Codify Gay Marriage Into Law. The Vote Was 267 Yes, 157 No. Here's How Every Member Voted
I hope it's a sign of things to come that not everyone voted on party lines. I'd like to see more of our representatives represent their constituents instead of their party.
Same! Currently, we have a new voting law applied in germany, that will cause small parties to have higher difficulties in entering parliaments - we see the two-party system failing BECAUSE it's two parties only, at least that contributes to the failing ... we have seen the green party rise from being a minority of constant 5...10 % to almost the state of a "Volkspartei" (="peoples' party" - parties representing large groups of people), and every party having ecological programs that vastly exceed what the green party dared to ask in the eighties. That is a given now, that, in germany, at least partially is a result of small parties being voted in relatively easy so far. I think any system can benefit from relatively small parties having a say by the need to form allies to gain majority in order to form a government.

Japan's Population Problem, Visualized [oc]
This isn't a population problem. Constant growth is the population problem.
It's a population problem in that there aren't enough factory workers, and there's concern there won't be enough tax payers to support the elderly population. However, it is causing Japan to be a lot more open to foreign workers, and during the last 20 years, there's been a LOT of talk from young people about treating foreign workers better.
