If a 16 year old wanted to adopt a child. The government wouldn't allow it. She isn't done with her education. She isn't financially stable yet. And she isn't a legal adult. But if she gets pregnant. The government can ban her from getting an abortion. How is that logical?

Interesting. The five friends ( like on TV shows) become surrogate mates and the 10 dogs replace the biological need to nurture young. Brilliant! life style changes to usurp mother nature. New babies could come from careless crack addicts and other sources such as two mommy situations ( which seem to be quite successful and with very low divorce rates! Kudos). The government has no authority to tell people who they can and can't have sex with, or can or can't have a child with. So why do we have ANY rules about who we can marry (or how many)? I sometimes think we should just have contracts that allow people to have legal rights in partnerships, or legal responsibilities in partnerships, without any implication of their personal connection.

The problem is that there are real legal and financial benefits to being married, such that being single or having multiple partners is penalized long term. If I want a platonic friend to be the most important person in my life, I should be able to do that and gain those same benefits.

Soooo... I'm guessing the person who said this has received pressure from friends and family who insist they get married. Look, I get it. Right now I have no desire to marry. But fortunately, I didn't ever have a family trying to pressure me into getting married either. I don't have anything against other people getting married if that's their choice. It's just not a priority for me right now. I sympathize with those who get pressure from families to get married when they don't want to. And this seems like a comment from someone who receives such pressure.

I've seen men leave 5/10 year relationships. And turn around and marry a woman that they've only know for 6 months. And then do all the things that their ex always wanted them to do. Word of advice... Stop preaching to these men. They hear you...They are not going to be the man that you want them to be. Because you're not the woman they want to be with. So basically if you're with somebody and you are trying to get them to change and it's not happening, it's not the right relationship for you. It's best if we match with somebody who doesn't require a project. No one is happy if someone is constantly trying to change the other person.
