Have you ever met a "know-it-all"? That one person who has an opinion about everything, regardless of their actual expertise. They're the ones who'll suddenly drop historical tidbits that seem to come from a parallel universe where facts take a backseat.

They’re the ones who’ll correct your pronunciation of quinoa at every party, followed by a lecture on its nutritional values. But you know what’s more fun than listening to them interject every conversation with an air of authority?

Witnessing someone humble them. Especially when it’s done in a savage manner. Just like these posts where people are roasting individuals for their ignorant opinions.

This claim about Jesus is not scientifically proven, but animals in Africa regularly get drunk from eating fermented marula fruit. This is naturally produced alcohol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIDJ-sTuoO8

That's entirely false. Yeast naturally ferments fruit and grains in the wild too. Incidentally, God has never made a single social media website, so maybe Tiff should get off it?

If you believe in creationism: Yeast make alcohol, god made yeast, therefore, god made alcohol. Humans just refined the process from "find the over-ripe fruit that is fermenting" to mass produced and quality controlled.

Wanting to understand the reason behind a "know-it-all" persona, Bored Panda spoke to Gurpal Kaur, a Counseling Psychologist at Shridhar Life School, “A 'know it all' attitude often arises from a deep need for validation or control, stemming from underlying insecurities.”

She said, “Individuals may use their perceived knowledge to assert superiority or shield themselves from feeling inadequate. Past experiences of praise for intelligence can also reinforce this behavior. Understanding the complex motivations behind this persona requires a thorough examination of the individual's personal history and social dynamics.”

The batteries are the problem (both for houses and E-Cars), not the damn panels, because of unethical cobalt mining. That's what causes toxic chemicals to be spilled into nature, and child labor. However, the problem isn't the cobalt, it is the way it is mined - and nobody's fixing it because money.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle. There are harmful elements in solar panels (lead, cadmium…), but the majority of the panels are recyclable (about 90%). The problem comes from the way they are constructed, and the differing recyclable materials making them very labor intensive to recycle. Basically meaning they have to be full dismantled and the materials all separated to be recycled. A lot of recyclers just won’t do it, they don’t make money on them. So yeah, sadly they do get sent to poorer countries to be dumped.

    Kat

The way the panels are made of different materials bonded together (like a crisps packet: plastic bonded with aluminum foil) does make them very hard to recycle . But that doesn't mean they are more harmful than nuclear waste... New generation panels are designed for better disposal / recycling

The real point is, if there is a forgiveness program and it will help you, why not go for it with full honesty. But do not be a hypocrite and complain about someone else taking an advantage perhaps in a different type program than the one you or a family member are getting a benefit from. Side note: Imagine a Congressional Rep asking his colleagues if there is an exemption anywhere in the new laws they just passed banning abortions for his mistress.

I'd like to see students have the same rights to sue an education institution that you have when you invest in stock. Wrongful acts are generally defined as a breach of duty, neglect, error, misstatement or misleading statement, or error of omission. When a private college is on academic probation (losing accreditation) because they performed so poorly and that information is not shared or publicized, you should have the right to sue. Governments only support corporations with our tax dollars.

There is a difference. PPP was a congressional program where if you followed the procedures during the pandemic the loan was turned into a grant. That was the program, as planned, it wasn't "forgiven", as it was the actual program. Student Loans, are your personal loans, that now after the fact, some politicians want to have the government buy your debt to pay back the banks. But when you took out the student loans (like I did), we did it with the responsibility for our own debt. If the program had in its writing that it would be turned into a grant if certain conditions were met, that would be different, but this is the govt taking over private debt for a problem they created. Oh and many studies have found most of the "forgiven" student debt will be to people from middle-class and upper middle class background (over 70%) and the majority of the burden will be on blue collar in the biggest reverse wealth transfer in US History. We took loans, our responsibility

Kaur, who is also a couples therapist, emphasized how such an attitude can significantly impact relationships. “Firstly, they can create feelings of resentment or frustration in others, as individuals may feel invalidated or belittled by the constant need for one-upmanship. This can lead to communication breakdowns and a lack of mutual respect within the relationship.”

“Moreover, such attitudes can hinder genuine collaboration and problem-solving, as the 'know it all' individual may be less open to considering alternative perspectives or solutions. This can lead to a sense of disconnection and alienation within the relationship, as the other person may feel undervalued or marginalized.”

The "increase" in autism was attributed to the huge increase in human population on the planet. The overall percentage of the population born autistic has remained constant. In other words, the odds of having an autistic child has not changed.

That, and also as the understanding of autism grows the "set" of autistic people also grows. In other words, 50 years ago the set of people with autism would only include those with characteristics a, b, and c; whereas today it would also include those with characteristics x, y, and z.

Fun fact: many people with high functioning autism tend to work in science. (Many believe that even Albert Einstein was one.) The creative way their minds often work can help them discover connections between things that others might not realize or have new, unique ideas. From a comedy point of view, it’s not impossible that autism may have caused some vaccines! 😜

Such individuals may prioritize being right over building emotional connection. “This can create a dynamic of power imbalance and undermine the foundation of the relationship. Overall, 'know it all' attitudes can strain relationships by fostering feelings of resentment, undermining effective communication, and eroding trust and intimacy. Addressing these attitudes requires a willingness to cultivate humility, empathy, and openness to others' perspectives.”

Dealing with know-it-alls can be tricky but patience is the key, Kaur said, “One approach is to listen patiently, acknowledge their knowledge, but politely offer your perspective or ask questions to steer the conversation in a more collaborative direction. If that doesn't work, sometimes it's best to simply let them have their moment and move on.”

@Becky, that's a very small sample size and a very small difference. I also have concerns about the self-reported nature of the survey and the factor they used to indicate health. Rather than point out the 3% lower rate of vet visits, perhaps we should look at the fact that the cats were on average 1.9 years younger and conclude that they aren't living as long? No, just kidding, it would be unscientific to make that claim on an unrepeated survey of that size. Is this the only study you have?

I had a cat that wouldn't eat meat. He just licked it. And was stupidly fussy about that too. He quite enjoyed licking chunks in gravy and was rather happy with soup. Vet said there was no reason, no mouth or teeth problems. He lived to a ripe old age and had an excellent set of almost unused teeth.

If anyone's interested, Korea and the coast of China were mainly affected by Japan colonizing it. However, we should not turn our noses too high about judging that, because our own people are no better. As the entire existence of the USA proves, the Spanish and Portuguese influence in all countries that are nowadays seen as part of Latin America, great Britain causing half of the world to celebrate an independence day from them, and that almost the entirety of Western Europe gobbled up land in Africa at the time. Humans can be really uuuurgh ... The important part is to learn from it so history doesn't repeat.

They never said in this that Japan was colonized, nor did they say anything about who Japan colonized. This response is a non-sequitur, and just a little bit suspect in how vehemently it throws Japan under the bus without provocation.

Never forget the R a p e of Nanging and every Japanese uni student should be made aware of Unit 731. Concentration camps in Europe had survivors despite the fact that 6 million people were "unalived". Unit 731 that tortured Chinese, Russians, and American GI's. HAD ZERO SURVIVORS. We only know what happened due to the medical doctors confessing to their crimes after the war. And the Japanese have never to this day apologized to the surviving Korean comfort women who were forcibly taken. Colonizers will always feel superior to the people they are conquering. Just ask the Native Americans and Indigenous First People in Canada what they think of colonization.

Indeed, correlation does not mean causation. Could be that people who were already at high risk for heart disease tried out fasting to be more healthy. That being said, I do intermittent fasting within reason and it has been very beneficial for me to not eat all the time, especially after dinner.

When dealing with a know-it-all coworker, it's wise to choose which conversations are worth engaging in. Rather than getting into a debate, a simple reply like "Thank you for the information" ensures you avoid unnecessary conflict. Not only does this help maintain professionalism, it also keeps the focus on productive interactions.

Wow, the readers that added context sure don't understand geopolitics and how some countries outside of the West suppress their people. I will add that hijacking planes are really not a great idea for anyone though and I'm not sure why he included that in his diatribe other than to be cheeky (in a terrible way). Although that and the moltovs could be soaking to desperation maybe. Outside of that, people suffer immense consequences for things that they should allowed to do.

Lots of people in the US have been arrested during peaceful and lawful protests, so be aware that our rights are routinely violated. The point of this post is that people say why can't they just protest peacefully, then when people protest peacefully there are still lots of people in power complaining. Why can't they just... the point of protesting is to make a change and that only comes with discomfort. If the powerful don't respond to peaceful protests, then desperate people will do more and more extreme things to try to get their human rights recognized.

Whether they’re dead with peace, power, or petulance, the fact remains that they’re DEAD, not resting, and so have no power, peace, or petulance. They ceased to exist and now, fortunately, don’t hafta worry about this nonsense.

You'll do better on average in the S&P, which averages over 11% across any long period. So let's say you need$100,000 a year to feel comfortable. The best retirement strategy is $500,000 in the bank (to cover you on down years), and $2,000,000 in the S&P. That $2 mill will average $220,000 in interest. But to be extra safe, I'm assuming an average of 8% and I'm subtracting 3% to cover inflation. So on an average year, you take out $100,000 and your principal grows by at least 3%, then next year you take out $103,000, and so on... In this way, you could live to be 1,000 and still have your principal untouched. The $500,000 covers you in times like the last few years... In related news, can anyone give me $2,500,000?

The real problem is when people blame their shîtty behavior on ADHD (or autism by that matter) so they can claim they're disabled and you can't say anything bad about them - instead of just standing straight for the fact that they are just an aśshole. Mental illness has nothing to do with wether you're a decent human or not.

You have a point in that sometimes a**holes try avoid accountability this way, which is infuriating for those of us who actually live with autism and/or ADHD. But neurodivergence and mental illness are two different things.

We’ve really been gaslighted into believing ADHD is just hyperactivity and not focusing, but it’s so much more than that. Our brains don’t produce enough dopamine, so we get less satisfaction from doing productive things.

Fun fact: both ADHD and Autism are neurological development disorders, not mental illnesses, though many people diagnosed with both or either may also have mental health issues/illnesses. *I saw many pandas throughout the comments referring to these disorders as mental illness.* so I did some research to clarify. I also have ADHD as well as mental illnesses.

There is a lot of discrimination, even within the disabled "community" (not a thing, we don't have anythig in common) against people who are not "disabled enough" or who have enough money to live in anything but grinding poverty. It sucks.

That's the frustrating part about it. There is such a belief that disabled people can't be successful, that when people do see examples of it they can only reconcile it by saying "oh yeah, but they're not REALLY disabled".

Up to a point. People with disabilities can and should be accommodated, obviously. When those same people act like Aholes, they get that same treatment as Aholes. For example, I knew a man once who was paralysed from the shoulders down, and had an electric wheelchair, which he used to deliberately roll over people's feet. Not funny, and not forgiveable.

Way too many people eagerly label themselves autistic, ADHD, or mentally ill for clout because they think it's trendy and makes them seem more interesting instead just needing an actual personality and working on themselves. It's sad, pathetic, and damaging to people actually with those issues. And, yes, I think normalizing those things to help decrease their stigma is a good thing.

I think I understand what the OP was trying to say. By "feeding", he means like when a mother breastfeeds her child: selflessly and without compensation. Farmers don't feed people, they sell them food. The response did not refute the claim.

In the farmer's protests in Europe, a key point being made is that farmers feed people, and without them there is no food. The OP is trying to refute this claim by saying that farmers don't feed people because they are not giving the food away for free. Pretty much every penny of profit made by farmers goes right back into farming - equipment fixing, animal feed, fertilisers. Most farmers are in heavy debt, they aren't rich fatcats making heaps of profit off desperate people.

According to studies, people who receive feedback are 12.5% more productive than those who don’t receive any feedback. It's important to understand that people may be unaware of the impact their behavior has on others. In such cases, offering constructive feedback is beneficial. However, pointing this out during a private discussion is better than doing it in public.

This term 'transphobe' is interesting and is purely used to be inflammatory. A phobia is an irrational fear. I think very, very few people are afraid of trans people. The issue mainly is women's rights and males (perverts) masquerading under the trans banner in order to harass and threaten women. The other issue is that buildings offering lavatories and changing rooms are too mean to have a room for trans people. By the way, as a retired makeup artist, I used to help men use makeup, style their hair and move in order to feel more like women. I have no problem with this. But they are not women, they are trans women.

Whether it's a party or a family gathering, there's a know-it-all everywhere you go. Thankfully, you can often find ways to avoid them. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the office. While we need to interact with colleagues in a civilized manner, there are people who give savage responses to others for their less-than-informed opinions.

Most countries involved in that war did some pretty bad things. Japan did some horrible things to people. As for USA - the nukes are bad (and famous) but we may have killed a lot more people in total with the fire bombing campaigns. Plenty of shame to go around in that war.

It was a nasty war. WHOMEVER developed the atomic bomb first would have had no qualms against using it. I'm sorry it was developed and deployed but my grandfather would have been in the invasion of Japan if it hadn't been. I won't apologize for that.

From what I've read, that's kind of a misconception. The Russians were already on their doorstep China. We bombed as much to make the Russians back off as we did to break the Japanese resolve.

While I can understand the Japanese reluctance to view this film, the historical record is that it took a personal intervention (in two separate meetings) by the Emperor to get the Japanese war cabinet to accept the need for a surrender. Even then, a number of military officers tried to launch a coup d'etat to prevent people following the Emperor's direction. While the Soviet invasion of Manchuria shook the war cabinet's members, it was the potential for national extinction that made the difference. That, and by forcing the surrender the use of atomic bombs quite likely saved **Japanese** lives (because otherwise there would have been continued firebombing of Japanese cities, and starvation as the US submarine fleet was down to torpedoing fishing boats with impunity), as well as saving those in POW / internment camps, or the Allied forces who would have had to invade.

They should frown on the conduct of the Japanese military and governement during that time frame. Many atrocities commited against civilians and POWs. Not using the atomic bombs would have necessitated an invasion to end the war. The japanese government was prepaired to fight to the last man, woman and child. Dropping the atomic bombs ultimately caused less deaths than an invasion.

Girls SHOULDN'T use each other's underwear because of hygiene, but that doesn't mean they don't do it. As a teenage girl, me and my friends/nieces would definitely borrow each others underwear at sleepovers or holidays if you forgot to bring enough and someone else had spares. Me and my mom would wear each other's underwear if laundry was late. And borrowing someone else's bikini, including the bottom part, was super super common amongst girls, I think every girl my generation did that regularly. Granted, this was in the 90s and 00s, it might be different now. It's a unwise thing to do, yes, but to say that no girls do it and that it must be a fetish, is completely ridiculous.

CONTEXT: Julie Bindel is well known for being against the concept of gender identity. She made a tweet listing all the convicted sex offenders who are trans women (who she refers to as men), then alongside that listed other trans women who have never been arrested or suspected of any crime or wrongdoing, but who had done or said things she regarded as fetishistic. One of the trans women she named was an activist named Katie, who had previously shared a story that when she was a toddler, her mum caught her trying on her sister's knickers. Julie portrayed this as evidence that Katie's gender identity is just a sexual fetish, without mentioning that Katie was only 3 at the time. Katie responded to Julie's posts by stating that it's normal for toddlers to wear each other's underwear, and Julie then selectively quoted that - again leaving out the part where Katie was 3.

(Though I’d still prefer they’d name it “Twatter.” I’d be easier to remember that way.)

Hmm, I wonder what ever happened to the belief that everyone is entitled to their own opinion ? I guess it's no longer true. How sad is it people are criticized for not having the same opinion as others. Come on,.... I found this on Quora to get my point across, says perfectly what I am thinking: "A personal opinion is an opinion held by an individual on a specific topic. Opinions do not have to be supported by evidence (although, to me, that is always preferable). That's what makes it an opinion "
