Hi! I'm Chia and my girlfriend is Poppy and we're the main characters in Sesame But Different, a slice-of-life lesbian comic that pokes fun at moments (sometimes embarrassing but, hopefully, mostly relatable) in our lives. We are very similar: we share many similar hobbies, tv shows, etc. However, we're also very different: Poppy is more sporty, and I'm nerdier; I'm more disciplined, and she's laid back. So we're same-same, but also different. Hence the name.
Back when I was a young and closeted lesbian, I used to search all over the internet (unintentionally losing bits of my innocence along the way) for content that could reassure me that there were others like me and that I could be happy one day—thankfully, I can attest that it truly does get better and, about a year ago, I created this comic to provide more LGBTQ visibility by playfully showcasing a real same-sex relationship.

The best part about creating these comics is that it allows me to take silly, everyday moments with my girlfriend that might otherwise pass and be forgotten and, instead, share them with people all over the world! In addition, it's both delightful and uncanny to learn that our readers can identify with so many of our experiences... even some of our weird inside jokes.

I would like to add not every child that is curious about naked barbie is lgbt+, and also that not every lgbt+ started off curious about naked barbie. :) But also yes... all my barbies were naked. So were all the other dolls though.

wish I'd known as a child that being into women was even an option... even as young as ten I felt awkward and alone. I told everyone I wanted a boyfriend because I thought I was supposed to, and I wrote hetero romance into my books because I thought I was supposed to. When asked about it, I replied, "because people are expecting this" and not "I want this."

There are rarely any representations of ANY stable, functional relationships in the media. That's because they are BORING. Your comic is cute, and I wish you luck with your, well, whatever social end you're trying to accomplish with this tripe (I can tell you from experience that trying to "d, but there's a reason even straight, conventional love stories are either tragic, or they just show you the exciting beginnings and then "happily ever after." Because most of the time, it either A. Isn't happily ever after, and then you write the divorce novel or the tragic death novel, or B. It's pretty uneventful. Why don't you wait till you guys have some actual life experience outside of "gee it's hard to ask a girl you like to hold your hand"? This kind of "bum ba dum, our lives are pretty comfy and nice" s**t is actually not at all relatable to most people. Life sucks. Love sucks. Including girl on girl love. Most of my girlfriends have either tried to get me killed or caused me bodily harm.

I'm lucky, coming out was easy for me. I was playing Game Of Life with my parents, and at the "get married" space, I chose the pink character instead of the blue character. And when I came out to my friends, I said "I'm going as Robin from Stranger Things because we're both gay", and one friend said "I'm bi" and another friend said "I'm gay or bi I don't know but I kissed a girl".

to those nasty people in the comments saying 'this displeases god' just remember; god says a sex is between a man and a woman, so technically if two women bang, it's not sex, and therefore not a sin :) (in all honesty though, if you really wanted to be a good christian you would be accepting of all people, just like jesus would have been)
