‘Reasons My Friends Hate Me’: 30 Witty And Relatable Comics By Aylia Colwell
Interview With Artist
Every new day is a good excuse to introduce you to an artist making their debut on Bored Panda. Today is no different, because we're bringing you an illustrator who creates a comic series with the witty (or perhaps serious) name 'Reasons My Friends Hate Me'. Strips created by Aylia Cowell are ones that many people can relate to, especially girls. There are specific topics like being an introvert, socially awkward, and the childless 'Best Mom'. You can find all of these, along with many more hilarious themes, in the collection of comics we've selected for you.
Bored Panda talked to Aylia and asked some questions regarding her work. We wanted to find out what inspired the artist to start creating comics. We learned that: “I started doodling some of my own annoying habits and had a lot of fun doing so, and I just never stopped!”

I swear they've started making these harder to pass just to mess with us. I hit thirty captchas on a site a couple days ago. It was up to 20 attempts and I thought "this must be bugged, I'll reload the page" and I still had to do another 10 after it reloaded before it finally decided I was human. I don't know whether it's because the question is flawed, like one common one is "click all squares containing a motorbike". The picture has a moped, so do I click none because technically it's not a motorbike, or do I click the ones with the moped because "close enough"? Similarly, do I click the squares where I can't see part of the bike, but I can see part of the rider? Even worse some of them are using crappy AI created images as the cues. "Click something that could fly". None of them, because it's not really a bird, it's a creepy AI version of a bird...
The artist has also shared with us that recurring themes in ‘Resons My Friends Hate Me’ “tend to be portraying myself as a villain (hence the name of the series), and the general liberal agenda. It’s mostly about self-deprecating humor.”

We were wondering how Colwell comes up with ideas for her new strips. The illustrator said: “Most comics are inspired by actual events, frequently amplified for entertainment.”

This is me. Yesterday one of my babies went missing for an hour and I nearly had to be hospitalized. I’m not proud.
Lastly, we wanted Aylia to tell us what she considers a good comic. She said: “I don’t think there is anything that specifically makes a good comic, or if there are mistakes one can make in art. There’s an audience for every genre, every style, it’s just a matter of finding them. If you’re having fun making comics, then you’re doing it right.”

I would LOVE to be able to just clear my mind and NOT THINK!! I must have what seems like 100 things going through my mind at any given time!! I have tried mindfulness and meditation, writing things down so they are not on my mind, aswell as complementary therapies.... nothing works! I am an overthinker!! I would love someone to teach me not to think!!!

Not everyone wants children, for various reasons... but people should respect another person's choice to either have kids, have pets instead, or have neither. Totally up to them!! I love this comic strip!! I am a mamma bear to a fabulous neurodivergent (ASD & ADHD) teenager who I love more than life itself! However she often states that she never wants children and would prefer some fur babies. Although I am sad I will never be a gran to human grandchildren, I respect my daughter's choice and will love getting involved looking after furbabies! Also, several of my friends have opted not to have children, I have never once asked if or why they don't want children.... it's their lives! RESPECT EACH OTHERS WISHES!!

This is me. All vacations do is pile up the stress because I'm not getting anything accomplished. It's not healthy, but it's how I'm wired. Plus, the work really does just pile up. No one else is going to do any of it while I'm on vacation, so I'm just setting myself up to have to work twice as hard when I get back.

It was the day after Hillary lost, I was in the narrow boxed in drive thru at the arches. Some young excited MAGA behind me sees my Hillary bumper sticker and starts yelling stuff out their window, trying in vain to get my attention. He gave up just in time, because I was about put on my parking break, turn on my hazard lights, and pop my hood in the middle of the drive thru. Then go use the bathroom. To my credit, I simply helped elect a new prez instead. Damn I'm good.

I get the vibe, but vegan isn't a dietary choice, it's a life philosophy. I'm not sure someone can be a little bit vegan anymore than they can be a little bit Jewish. Anyway, I could go vegan, except for the faces. I need to eat faces.

What if I to use you example enjoy some aspects of Judaism for example, I decide to eat kosher or maybe to eat Maza for Passover is that not allowed. The world isn't black and white. Though I understand your point and agree it is important for people to understand the history cultural significance and ideology of what they do.

The young lady in the first panel may be comfortable with one of the few people she knows well, though. Some people can pass for being confident social when they’re not always as confident as they seem.

You know it's bad when you always repeat the last thing you said, because you feel like you should say something more, but you don't know what to say. You don't know what to say. That was an annoying habit to break. I remember a kid asking me, "Why do you always repeat the last thing you say?" Me: "I don't know. I don't know." Man, the sheer stupidity of social anxiety ticks. Just remember, the only way to stop a bad habit is to form a new one. Lamenting it while changing nothing, only reinforces it.

As an introvert that used to be shy and still have some social anxiety...do theater. Seriously, it sucks at first but once you really get into it you start to stop caring about "being the center of attention" or even stop caring about other people.

I couldn't restart straight after finishing a series. The early episodes almost always hit differently to the end ones. I'll happily rewatch a series but it needs to rest for a year or two between viewings. There is so much awesome content available I'm 100% sure I can find something interesting that I haven't seen before.
