I had a guy do this to me once with my OWN birthday cake. My mom always made a homemade coconut cake for my birthday. A round cake. Well once, my niece's a**hole of a boyfriend (at the time, this was around the year 2000) grabs a knife and starts cutting it very thinly LONG WAYS. I'm like "wth are you doing?" He's like "this is how we do it at my house." I'm like "first of all, it's MY cake and second of all, I eat it for several days after." He just looked at me like I was stupid and continued cutting it. My mom stepped in and stopped him and asked him to leave. Still managed to have half the cake too myself after sharing with the family but it was very infuriating with that guy.

I mean, it was cut weird, but cut that one triangular piece (a which would be a normal slice) and then you have a normal 1/2 cake.

This happened to a cake I made - one time. Afterwards, whenever I brought cakes, pies, or any baked item that needed slicing, I always cut it before setting it out.
