Every person wants to know everything there is to our existence. Small things, big things – it doesn't matter as long as we constantly feed our minds with bits of information. Besides, knowing stuff is good even if you understand that you'd probably never need that knowledge. Just think about it, curiosity is an essential part of our everyday life, all that social media, magazines, books, TV shows – we're always learning, yet we're never fully satisfied.

We want to know exactly how the universe was formed; we want to know if we'll be stuck in traffic on the way back home tomorrow and whether that new movie truly is as great as people say it is. Our brain constantly processes things, and sometimes all you need is to read about some facts to have a good night's sleep.

A member of one of Reddit's online communities asked fellow Redditors to share a few random facts that folks absolutely needed to know. The post received over 7K upvotes and 5.1K comments, revealing things about everything and anything.

Wait. 'Witnessed' the Wright brothers' first flight in person, or was alive when it happened? I mean, they were only separated by 66 years; a LOT of people were alive for both events.

He was 7 at the time, so he was alive when it happened. It's not very likely he witnessed it though, his family lived in a different state.

It's worth pointing out that the Welsh for dog is actually "ci" in most circumstances. It's "gi" here because "Cor" in front of it has caused what's called a "soft mutation" in the initial letter of the word that follows it. The plural, for those interested, is cŵn.

They can determine it by examining the prey (for example, a horse's) eye and looking at the distribution and type of rods and cones in them. Cones are sensitive to specific wavelengths of light. Humans have cones receptive to red, green and blue wavelengths, whereas most prey animals lack those for red wavelengths and we can therefore assume (pretty safely) that they see the world in shades of blue and green.

i just thought about something. i like to read heroic fantasy, and when i'm reading, i see the whole "world" the author has built in my mind, including the characters. soooo many times, i find it off-putting when they make a movie out of it and it looks nothing like what was in my head. that being said, GoT, and WoT did a pretty good job of matching my mental picture, both with the geography and the characters. WoT especially did a fabulous job with the casting.

IIRC, Lamborghini was complaining to Enzo about a clutch problem on his 275, which it definitely had. Enzo called him a "stupid tractor maker". My complaint about the Ford vs Ferrari movie is they made Ford out to be a bigger d**k than has really was an Ferrari much less of the a s s h o l e than he really was. Ferrari was very much an egomoniacal prick, and we he lost to Ford, he never raced Le Mans again as a factory team. Turd.

The reason you don't see green stars is because green is in the middle of the electromagnetic spectrum. The light emitted is strongest in green but equal on both sides of the spectrum making it appear white. Green star = white star.

Interesting thing I learned from a TV show last night is that although the motors in Teslas can go backwards as well as they can go forwards, the oil pump that lubricates the gearbox doesn't work in reverse, so it would be a bad idea to drive one any distance backwards, for example in a reversing race.

The only time I've seen a humming bird IRL is in the garden at Bob Marley's house in Kingston, which is now a museum. It was right near the back steps where he was supposed to have sat and written the song "Three Little Birds". I will admit seeing it -and just being there, made me bawl like a baby.

That's not really a good comparison. The moon is a sphere, whereas Australia is flat (ish). The surface area of the moon is around 10 times greater than the surface area of Australia.

Australia's largest diameter (4000 km) is wider than the diameter of the Moon (3400 km). The diameter of the Earth is 12 700 km, that's to say 3.7 Moons, 3.2 Australia and 1.9 Russia (6600 km). That means Russia is larger than the radius of the Earth. In term of surface area, the Moon (38M km²) is 2 Russia (17M km²) and 5 Australia (7.7M km²). The Earth (510M km²) is 13.4 Moon, 32 Russia and 71 Australia. That's also about 1 250 000 000 Vatican.

The longest officially verified reigning Monarch ever was Louis XIV of France, at 72 years, 110 days. Which means that Elizabeth only has to reign for 2 and a half more years to beat this record. Which is entirely possible given her mother lived to over 100. Though technically - Louis had a regent for a number of years, so technically Elizabeth has continuously reigned for a longer period of time as she has never had a regent iirc.

Research has shown that multi-lingual people form desperate pathways for the different languages. This form a sort of destination between the different language based personalities of the person. This is so unexpectedly strong that such people will have different responses to the same question depending on the language the question is asked/answered in For example when asked to state their favourite colour in French they might say blue. But when speaking in English the colour might be green. It isn't multiple separate brains or personalities but there is some distinction. The research is very interesting

Well it is not that weird that there is some confusion. Scandinavia is namned after a mountain range called 'Scandinavian mountains" that stretches trough Norway, Sweden and a little bit into Finland. Not Denmark though. But even though Finland used to belong to Sweden, we are more culturally alike between Norway, Denmark and Sweden because we have more history and come from the same people (vikings) that all basically lived around the Nordic Sea and spread out from there which you can tell from our related languages, where as Finland is more ethnicly Baltic or Russian like since they came in from the south on the east side of the Baltic sea.

Not to mention that what we call "Norden" includes Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland (Icelandic people are of scandinavian descent) and Finland. When I tried to translate "Norden" to english google says it is called Scandinavia as well in English. So if google is right it would be correct to say both that Scandinavia consist of 3 ('Skandinavien') and 5 ('Norden') countries.

Someone Online Wondered: “What’s A Random Fact You Think Is Worth Sharing?“, And 30 Users Delivered When a person receives a kidney transplant they don’t take out the old kidneys, they just shove em to the side and leave em in there.

No. They do not shove them to the side. That's ludicrous. The two original kidneys remain in place and will ultimately shrink and become completely non-functionable.. The new transplanted kidney is placed, typically, in the lower right abdomen which is then connected to the bladder. There will always be a small pooched out area visible where the new kidney resides. My son is a transplant recipient. We are forever grateful for his anonymous donor who left this world.

I'm currently on the transplant list for a kidney. My left one is where is supposed to be and my right one is behind my pelvic bone, so they'll put the new one where the right one should be. They biopsied the left, but can't get to the right, so we're assuming, since I still produce urine, that all of the function I do have is from the left. And why do I need a kidney if I still produce urine? Well, it's not a lot and what is produced is not filled with the toxins it should. I'l lucky because I can be a little more lenient with my fluid intake, whereas others are limited to 32 oz./day. That's it.

This is true. We have a family friend who has FOUR kidneys now. His two natural ones, that failed, in their natural positions, his first transplanted one, that eventually failed as well (after many years), and his newest transplant, that is working wonderfully, one on each side of his abdomen. He's skinny, and you can see his stomach sticks out a little, where the transplanted ones are. They feel kinda hard, lol. But as Joanie below said, no, they don't shove the old ones to the side. It's safest for the patient to just leave them alone, and put the new ones in, in front.

No, it wouldn't have been because the 's' isn't the only missing sound - the J in classical Latin was merely the consonant I (i.e., they were the same letter). His name would have been pronounced "Gah-ee-oos Yoo-lee-oos Kai-sar" with the emphasis on the first syllable for all three and with the middle syllable of Gaius being short but still enunciated.

It's called a cashew apple and is an accessory fruit, the cashew nut is the true fruit. The apple can be used to make things like preserves or chutneys, can be used in curries and in some countries is also used to flavour non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.

I'm sure it's a legit thing but what even is meant by accessory fruit because my brain is now picturing cashew apple earrings and purses and I might need those things in my life now

They aren't related to the fruit we know as an apple, in the rose family. They're actually in the anacardiaceae family and more closely related to poison ivy and mangos.

I'd like to try the cashew apple and see if it's tasty, the nuts I could do without. Not a great taste on them and they make you fart like crazy. Pecans too.

I knew that cashews were not a nut, but I didn’t know that they’re a seed—this explains a lot about why I like cashews so much since I generally hate nuts and generally love seeds.

They probably do, but then you have the pointy bit sticking into your scalp all day. That can't be comfortable.

I remember when DVDs first came out there was only like six available. One of them was twister and I remember boogie nights but I can't remember the others.

No, because basically all insects breathe like this.

No, insects do not have book lungs. You are correct that spiders have them...but spiders and some other arachnids are the only animals that do. In insects, the tracheal tubes open by along the body and just branch into smaller tubes deeper in the body. No lungs, book or otherwise, are involved.
