40 Powerful Illustrations By Japanese Artist That Will Make You Think (New Pics)
The Japanese illustrator known as Avogado6 uses the language everyone understands—and that is no language at all. It's probably because the delicate topics and complex emotions he conveys are too difficult to describe with words, so this artist chooses thought-provoking visual stories in his unique style. Most of his illustrations are like pills, each containing the flaws of our society and mental struggles. And I must admit, some of them are really hard to swallow. His emotion-fueled, dark, and disturbing illustrations talk about things you wish no one relates to; however, it's a pretty accurate, yet haunting, depiction of the depths of our world.
We've previously shared the artist's artwork here and here, and today we have collected some of the greatest illustrations he has done in the last few years. Don't forget to upvote your favorites and discuss the messages in the comments!

the way this thread is going, i didn't think they'd come back. glad i kept scrolling down. phew
Despite gaining 1.6 million followers on Twitter and 305k fans on Instagram, Avogado6 has managed to stay anonymous in the public space. All we know is that he calls himself "an ordinary person," likes chemistry, and his profile photo is a portrait of the famous Italian scientist Avogadro. His illustrations, though, are far from ordinary and will probably make you feel a little more than you have planned today and reflect on the world we live in.

At first I thought 'Meh', then I saw the reflection, now I'm blubbing too.
Thanks for illustrating the grief/pain that care providers must shoulder.
There is also a toy angel and a toy grim reaper in the toy box on the floor.
Avogado6 has been posting his art since 2017 and has created hundreds of images ranging from anything that comes from the deepest crevices of the soul to rare heartwarming pieces, but each illustration never fails to evoke emotion. He tackles uncomfortable topics such as death, poverty, family struggles through the eyes of a child, abuse, tolerance and equality, unhealthy social media consumption, depression, loneliness, and more. Most of his works are powerful and dark, yet you will find some sweet artwork that usually features animals thrown here and there to catch your breath.
The leash ... symbol of restrictions, forced faithfulness and also of the captivity young Japanese feel towards their parents, having to meet their high and sometime unrealistic expectations (I don't even want to talk about the domestic violence, the beat up woman, hold by a leash to an abusive husband and forced to smile... breaks my heart into smithereens T-T)
that's a hat worn by Japanese children to stand out on the street when walking to school. (just weeb crap sorry)
Load More Replies...I think the moral is abuse comes in many forms. The first: a father has beaten down and broken his son to fit the mold he has in mind for him with unrealistic expectations and words; the second: a husband is cruel to his wife behind closed doors when she "steps out of line" and doesn't behave how he wants her to; the third: a child simply MUST be the best for his mother, otherwise he's worthless and useless. The people in these who are happy are all controlling their victims in some way, not caring about their suffering so long as THEY benefit. "Be good, or else."
It's about control I think - the boss holds the leash tied to his employee, the guy the one his GF is attached to and the mother has her child on the leash

My son made settlement on a house. He moves out tomorrow. I know he'll be back to visit the "cage" quite often to steal our coffee Kcups, cleaning supplies, leftover food... :)
Congratulations on your son's successful launch! Will he be living in the same town? Mine heads to college this fall- same town thankfully- I'm already having feelings of an empty nest...lol growing pains
Load More Replies...Shouldn't raise them in the proverbial cage, because it leaves them defenseless and scared. Given the metaphor, the parents should of guided them around the outer world with protection and guidance outside of the cage. It's no wonder so many people crash and burn suddenly when they get out on their own. No one is doing any favors by either coddling or throwing into the deep end. Explore the world together, help your kid when they fall and teach them slowly how to get back up on their own. Don't release them into the wild when the cage was all they knew.
Reading and understanding Avogado6's visual stories is an open-ended process to which each individual brings their own life experiences and emotions. However, each of the artist's illustrations has a title that suggests the deeper meaning of it. Although it's in Japanese, an active Instagram community offers English translations and a discussion under each artwork, sharing their feelings and personal experiences.
The artist has also published several books with his illustrations and comics and you can find some of them on Amazon here, here, here, and here.
OMG, no. Don't ever think that being part of a couple will ensure happiness! Believe me, it won't. Yes, at first, falling in love can make you giddy and happy and feeling special and "chosen" by someone -- but that's literally a chemical reaction filling your body like a drug. And it's not what actually being a couple, or being in a relationship is like. Relationships are not "and they lived happily ever after" -- they take a lot of work to keep both partners feeling happy and content and fulfilled. (That's not to say they're not worth having, just that they aren't automatic and ever-smooth.) Being in a relationship can teach you important skills about valuing both yourself and your partner and about how to "fight fair" by learning to see problems as both of you vs. the problem and how to solve it, rather than you vs. the other person. It should teach you that you can let no one, absolutely no one, choose to hurt you physically, sexually, or emotionally, etc. Love yourself!

There is a lot to criticize about the modern world, from politics and consumerism to environmental issues, technology, and interpersonal relationships and many artists around the world use their art as a tool to bring light to these issues and help people reflect on them. Most of them choose a dialogue approach just like Avogado6, so if you like this artist's work, you might also want to explore the thought-provoking art of Alireza Pakdel, Al Margen, John Holcroft, Daniel Garcia, Michal Dziekan, Davide Bonazzi, and Barbara Daniels, among many others on Bored Panda.

I am adopted, and I think this is referring to adoption. If so, this is not how it works. The bio parents pick which parent/s they want to adopt their kid/s. The future parents do not decide. This is one drawing I don't like because it twists adoption around.
Absolutely not. I am adopted, and I don't like this one because of the "message" it gives. Future parents don't "shop" for kids. The bio parents pick the parents who will adopt their kid. Parents don't shop for kids.

Whenever there is an organized attack on certain group, no matter if jews, vietnamese, etc before that there is usually time period of progressing defamation, blaming and finger pointing. So people do not see them as other people but "devils" which need to be destroyed.
People always think they are on the side of the angels. And they demonize those people. But in reality the killers are the demons.
The idea is the the "good guys" are actually terrifying and different people with different ideals and looks are considered the "demons" but they're just trying to live their lives.

I feel like this a lot. With 30-40 pills and five treatments a day i understand this so much.
Oof I thought my 24 pills a day was bad! I hope they can find better/easier treatment methods for you, I mean it's good they have a treatment plan but that sounds very time consuming

I take meds that keep me alive and functioning--let's not forget that pre-medication, a whole lot of people died long before they had to.
I take several meds due to what I feel or have. But don't be afraid if you need to stay medicated to feel something. That's why we need them.
Hey hey hey anyone ever seen Less Than Zero if not never watch it ever (not that it isn't good, but its too sad) read the books tho cuz they don't kill Julian. This is not only the face of abuse by another, but self abuse & depression. No one hears another's scream for help
Omg I'm crying. This is a message of how we are just too distracted to notice a call for help
I see this one in two ways The more people crying out for help, the harder it is to distinguish. Unless all those help papers are from the same person, then it's more like the more you ask, the more it becomes routine and the less distinguishable it becomes for those who became accustomed to it. Both are sadly true and it explains why so many obvious signs of distress and pain get undetected.
Depression in a nutshell. Even if you're up and out of bed, that's what it feels like inside.
omg it's me at 3 am having a talk with myself on why my chair might be yoda moving towards me at an extremely slow pace
To people who think this is quarantine, I want to point out that now you have a glimpse of what depression is like. For many with mental illness, quarantine wasn't that big of a deal, because it was already their life. I can only hope the experience for some allowed them to see what it's like for people with depression and have empathy for those who effectively never got out of quarantine. A silver lining in a time that was otherwise horrific for pretty much everyone in different ways.
My cat does that, i feed her, then she leaves it and eats it in three or four hours haha

I personally will take pictures of amazing looking food to have for myself to show to friends/family when I see them! I love to show them amazing things that I get to do :)
For some people, myself included, taking a picture before eating is part of savoring the experience. There's no benefit in getting upset that other people enjoy things differently than you do.
I would not have the patience to take a picture of ramen, it would be gone by the time it's brought the table!
Sometimes I take pictures of my food, but only for myself, so I remember it. I’d definitely take a picture of ramen that looks that good.
Funny, I was just talking today with someone about how we'd like to go to Japan in blossom time

I can relate to this one. This was me as a child looking after my brother and sister. Cleaning the house after a night of drinking by my mother . If I didn’t do it, I’d be beaten and berated , which was all the time anyway , but I hated the smell of beer and cans all over the floor ashtrays full of cigarettes. I still get anxiety attacks if my house is not cleaned that day . I used to have OCD because of my life as an 8 year old
This is every child who had a dysfunctional parent or parents. My father was a narcissist who needed his ego coddled and babysat. My mother was an alcoholic with untreated depression.
Child being the adult, caretaker of another with drug abuse issues, alcoholism, or untreated mental illness.
Load More Replies...Society needs to start realizing that being a parent isn't for everyone. It takes a lot of specific conditions to be an okay one, let alone an actually good one. Growing up I saw so many kids whose parents were mediocre or outright terrible and I just felt so bad for the kids. It's not their choice who their parents are, it's absolutely a parents choice if they have a kid. If I want kids in the future, I'll only adopt. My genes are not worth passing on and I'd only adopt if I'm in a stellar mental health space, doing fantastic financially and have time and energy to devote what that kid needs and deserves and not a second before. I'm even getting sterilized in November to prevent it from ever happening. My heart goes out to every adult and kid that dealt with something like this. Even if your parents are/were nice people, it doesn't mean that they are/were good parents. Those are two entirely different things.
This was me from the age of 13. My mum sustained a back injury and couldn't do any housework, my sister had moved out by this point and my dad worked full time. It was left to me to do everything mum would do. Mum however had an undiagnosed cleaning OCD (she also went on to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder) and would scream at me if I didn't do the cleaning to the exacting standards she required it to be done. I was a teenager and wanted to be out with my friends or was supposed to be studying, but I was made to clean the house top to bottom every day.
I knew a kid like this, by the age 11 he was looking after his younger brother, elder brother , elder sister and her baby and their alcoholic Mum. He grew up fast and left me behind, me still being a little kid to his 11 year old grown up. He was a good friend, I miss him.

Adoption is very rare in Japan, almost impossible due to absurd notions of bloodlines. Many children in Japanese orphanages spend their entire childhood in the system until adulthood because no one will adopt them because they aren't "blood" related.

This is like, really important for people to realize. Living with abusive parents, you can't hate them all the time. Because they can hit you one minute and go and buy you something you've been wanting the next and it's a vicious cycle.

I got the meaning (I'm looking through these a second time). People could say they are your friends, but they backstab you if it helps them. So the person who everyone is pointing the gun to is someone who thinks they have many friends, but they are all using him/her.
