I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.

I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.

Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.

SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)

Buen trabajo, Peru! I really wish that there would be more of a push around the world to use an oil that is more sustainable and has less of crushing environmental impact. Palm oil is in sooo many products, even organic ones.

When a widely-used product, like palm-oil, is no longer being planted, governments need to provide farmers with viable alternatives that don't need wide-spread deforestation. What are the acceptable alternatives?

It's all about buying sustainable palm oil, if done correctly it's a more sustainable product than many other oils. Support the companies that do it right and it will prevent further deforestation

Palm kernel oil is actually one of the most promising solutions for our addiction to crude oil. It's a renewable oil source that produces biodiesel and bioplastics. Palm Kernel plantations should be welcomed, not shunned.

This is definitely a good thing, but be careful to remember that fortnite is known for an especially toxic crunch culture. Employees are expected to work insane hours with no pay. Planting forests is good, but he should also be held responsible for the unfair and harmful working conditions his company creates.

Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.

People are asking why this matters, here's why: Women are still getting fewer opportunities to direct movies, and even if there would be women who could make amazing movies, they're sidelined by some of the male directors that are really mediocre and produce cheap cash grab movies.

I try to bring my own bags or use paper at all costs. I'd even be ok with stores saving their big boxes and letting me carry my groceries in those so I can just recycle the box when I get home. Plastic bags drive me CRAZY!!!

It is necessary, because often private investors will support male entrepreneurs over female entrepreneurs. This happens mostly due to people in power currently being predominantly male and as many studies have proven, men are much less likely to believe that women are capable of success in a serious work environment. This can be ascribed to both deliberate and subconscious sexism. It's the same argument for why people of ethnicities other than caucasian should be given benefits that equalize the playing field. A group in power will not willingly give over their own power.

Unfortunately not suitable for everyone. Myself and my brother could not live off a plant based diet. I have reactions to a lot of fruit and veg, I get itchy tongue, gums, throat, roof of my mouth and lips. My brother has a salicylate intolerance and gets quite sick eating many fruits and veg.

This is a great post and many of these are amazing things, the problem is that the more we keep people alive and the longer they live the bigger the population gets which isn't sustainable. So it's a double edged sword. It's a catch-22.

I think a balance is better. Transparency reduces corruption. Confidentiality "divides and conquers" unity in humanity. All CULTures reduce free thinking and truer happiness. Imagine developmentally disabled having equal power and wealth to intellectuals.

I am sad to see the us very low on the list of contributions. We as a people need to start to fight again for the rights of our children, grandchildren, etc. We expect them to respect us, when we do not have any respect ourselves. Let us make 2020 a year where there is more good news than bad.

It’s so sad to see the differences between parts of the world-some make fake islands for flora and fauna while some are getting electricity. 3. People are awful. To even come to this state,to destroy everything on their way... In any case,kudos for all the positivity here 😊

I am sad to see the us very low on the list of contributions. We as a people need to start to fight again for the rights of our children, grandchildren, etc. We expect them to respect us, when we do not have any respect ourselves. Let us make 2020 a year where there is more good news than bad.

Thanks. I sometimes think networks, including weather channels, search out the most Godawful stuff they can find. A little "fair and balanced" would be nice . This helps.
