If you have not walked the streets of Limassol yet, then you should! You will see a lot of homeless cats there. They live and sleep anywhere, attracting the gaze of many people who pass by.

You seemed to enjoy the pictures I shared in previous posts (here, here and here). So, I want to show you some more photos of cats living in Limassol, Cyprus that I took.

There are feral cats on our property that I feed twice a day and they are skinny right now because of the heat.

Thats probably a mother and her kitten. There are must be millions of cats in Cyprus while the human poppulation is less than 1 million. Due to their numbers and the government's indifference cats suffer en mass here, from illnesses to malnutrition to being hit by cars(a lot). The only help they get is from ordinary people who are willing to pay from their own pockets to feed them. Medical care is a different beast and almost no1 provides it for strays. The verry few shelters that exist have been full for years now. I try to look after about 20 strays in my neighborhood but I gotta tell you the amount of time and money that is required is overwhelming!

We have a house cat we adopted from our city animal shelter in early 2009. Our cat looks thin like the larger cat despite being fed whenever he is hungry (ours is more gray than brown). It is our cat's natural body type since he was 1 year old when we adopted him. He is a very active cat and in good health but has always been slim and lanky and wiry (which is what one would call a human with similar physical build). People used to think he was an exotic breed. As far as we know, he isn't. He is just built slimmer that other cat's. He is also athletic.

Okay, this cat seems to have the international sign of TNRed cats, the cropped ear, but some of the cats look rather skinny, while others look well fed and are probably outdoor cats who have a home, but stray around most of the time. I wish the author could give some informations about the situation in Cyprus because actually I am not informed about the stray/street cat situation there, differently than about other countries like Italy or Spain or Greece, where several international organisations practice TNR and feed the cats there.
