Runts need more protection. Hate when breeders choose profit over care. I think one of our cats, when I was growing up was a runt. We found her in my aunt’s garage and she was always petite and talkative. She was a sweet talkative orange cat with circular markings and lived to be 11.

Very important advice. One step further: put ID on the carriers/travel harnesses. Name of animal, vet clinic info, owner's name/address/phone. In the event of an accident, responders will know immediately how to handle the situation. A terrified animal will flee the scene and no one wants that.

I found out the hard way when I was in a car accident but I wrapped myself around my dog so he wouldn't get hurt and I did instead but I'm an adult human and I should have been more responsible. Actually it was my soon to be ex husbands fault but we won't go there. I'm not even sure they had them back then but I had been looking for something to secure him because my husband was such a lousy driver and I worried about my fur baby. I was looking for some kind of car seat.

Well, that is great advice but it sure did take an otherwise a joyfully bright picture in a very dark direction.. I mean we could just say, "Hey buckle up the pup better to be safe than sorry!" ... I mean is giving people the traumatizing visual of a half of a windshield covered in mush puppies really necessary?? Geez 😐

This is so true. In the early 80"s I saw an accident in front of my job and the little poodle didn't survive. It was heart wrenching to see the accident and the pup's humans meltdown. We have equipment now to keep them safe but too many people don't use anything .

We had a kitten adopt us when I was in college, at my aunt’s house, where we had taken in another stray a few years before. This time he walked right to me, was even smaller than the other one and had some injuries. We nursed him back to health and I convinced my parents we could have a 3rd. He’s 13 now, is therapy for my parents and it was so hard to decide to leave him with my parents when I got married, but I know they needed him. Plus I gained a cat and dog, who has become a mommy’s girl, and we rescued a neglected cat. I still have many cuddles with Sunny when I visit my parents and helped look after him when my dad was at the hospital a lot of the summer. And, the dog and Sunny get along relatively well when she comes along to visit.
