Precisely because of these feline hatred imposters and their complete turnarounds into cat person Bored Panda has compiled a list proving that resisting a cute cat's charm is a lot more difficult than you'd imagine.
Sure you can say you don't want a pet cat, and hey, you might even mean it, but that doesn't mean a kitty cat doesn't want you, and if it does then no amount of resistance will stop it from creeping into your life and stealing your heart. People who say they are not a cat / dog person - take note of this. Dogs pull you out of yourself; dogs are there for the rough and tumble belly laugh stuff. Cats pull you into yourself - more introspective, more brain thinking. Nothing cast in stone with my statement - just something I think. I grew up with both cats & dogs. Love them both, live with 4 cats and love when I see my sister's dogs. They are both good for human beings.

I feel like people who claim, that they hate cats most likely never had a chance to play with one. They see them as aggressive, scratching and biting creatures... And that is far from from what most cats are. I refuse to believe, that this adorable, purring ball of fur could be still hated after some quality time spent together. Impossible!

It can not be about not liking cats rather than not wanting to have one in the house. My dad doesn't even want to consider having a cat because he's worried about it breaking his things. The dog won't climb the furniture. I imagine people who don't want dogs also imagine the ones that destroy the house if left alone for 5 minutes.

It's great that they have changed their minds but why did they hate cats to begin with? I don't have much respect for people who hate animals. Any animal. For no good reason(bitten or injured by one is a good-ish reason obviously).

I assume "hate" here means not wanting it close to them let alone in their houses, rather than "I hope they get hurt" type of hate. It's more of a "we don't get along" type of thing, just like some people have with kids.

It's kinda a stereotype that cats are the pets for women and dogs for guys, so that might be subconsciously ingrained in a lot of people without them realizing it.

Most of these probably had only experienced the a*****e/demon cats. My childhood cat is a small Maine C**n that a lot of people who claimed to hate cats were surprised when they met because she was such a sweetheart. I also had a demon cat. He did his best to make annoying everyone into an art form.

There are a lot of myths about cats that lead people to believe they don't like them. Cats very seldom cause the trouble that they are "known" for. Even when cats do become aggressive (most people's worst-case scenario) there is usually a reason and in almost all cases it is the fault of a human, either the current one or a previous one (often through ignorance rather than malice). Cats can be traumatised by bad experiences just as humans can. Rescue cats often come with some interesting 'quirks' but they have a lot of love to give if you are willing to try and understand them. That said, it isn't for everyone. Rescues and kittens especially need a lot of attention; another one of the most harmful myths about cats is that they are 'independent' and thus can be just obtained and then mostly ignored. Don't do this. If you can't give your cat care and attention, please don't get one.

When people say they "hate" cats, it's only that they've never been around them. When I got a cat a few years ago, my neighbours said they hated cats, but she won them over. They both love her and my mate across the way calls her "our cat" !

All I see is decent people that really didnt want to care for something but have a heart and when forced by the SO to get a living thing they dont blame the living thing but love it. I didnt want a cat because i didnt wanna clean litter boxes and buy more animal food. I still love our cat though.

I have a dog and am highly allergic to cats but while staying at my mum's her cat seemed to like me so i just took antihistamines and rubbed her wee face. Dug on the other hand was terrified and he's a 25kg staffy.

I mean, some people hate cats for legitimate reasons. For example, my dad is allergic as hell so he tries to avoid them, but they all want his attention because he ignores them. I imagine it's very frustrating for him. That said, I love cats and dad is just going to have to deal when I get one.

I am one of these people. I hated cats of any kind until I got married and my new stepdaughters wanted to give a new kitten. I took her with me just to please the girls and I became the biggest cat lover at age 36. Now I have 2 very spoiled very LOVED very perfect tuxedo cats. Female and male. The male is so funny because I raised him from the time he was born and he HATES me! Lol..loves my husband. Gotta love their personalities!

My boyfriend claims he is allergic to cats. Loved my boy at first sight and while the kitty is definitely a mama's boy, I'll wander into a room and find them napping together or Tucker will be perched up on his chest right in front of his face. Posted a picture on Facebook of him napping with the cat curled around his arm next to his face and got an earful from his mom about him being allergic. 😂 My handsome boy apparently cures cat allergies, as this is not the first time this exact situation has happened with friends and family ;)
