There’s always something people have demonized. First it was fat, then it was food additives, and lately it has become sugar. But things people see as evil don't end with our diet.

Other commonly disregarded stuff may have to do with music, like the controversial band known as Nickelback or going to psychological therapy, or not liking animals like rats, tarantulas, and snakes.

We rarely reflect on why specific things cause us such adverse emotions, so this viral thread may give us some perspective. The simple yet thought-provoking question “What doesn't need the hate it gets?” was asked by Redditor u/Alexdoesthedo, and it has clearly produced some very illuminating responses.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Rats. They're some of the funniest, most affectionate and intelligent small pets, with a ton of personality, who actually enjoy engaging with people. They get a terrible reputation for carrying disease or being aggressive- which is just not true for domestic rats. Growing up I had almost every common pet rodent you can think of, and hands down I'd pick a rat over a hamster any day.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Cats. Many people I know absolutely despise them because they think they cant love you the way some dogs can, or they remind you of the stereotype "crazy cat person" or the whole "they're all aggressive/bitey/scratchy" thing. Once I had both dogs and cats (and reptiles!) in my house - and though I love both, cats tended to speak a little louder to me. I'm part of a TNR company and ended up raising one of the cats I caught while searching for my missing cat last month and realized how sweet they can be if you take the time to earn their trust and give them space when it's asked for.

I'm in favor of practicing any religion you like, but Islam is one of the most intolerant religions to ever exist. There is no Muslim-majority country where being gay isn't hazardous to your health. There isn't a muslim-majority country that isn't a hellhole in regards to women's rights. Islam is incompatible with liberalism, the same way 14th century Catholicism is incompatible with liberalism. If you want to follow Islam, as a liberal I say you do you, but don't expect me to turn a blind eye to the religion's social problems.

A big part of the problem is that a core part of being transgender flies in the face of how most people live: we do not feel comfortable with the body we were born with. It doesn't match who we are. Some can understand, of course (anyone who experiences dysmorphia will be able to relate), but most never even consider the question of whether they're comfortable with their body in relation to their own identity. And honestly, I suspect that those who are most uncomfortable with transgender are the ones who see something of themselves in it but are not willing or able to confront that.

    Katie Lutesinger
    Community Member

Body dysmorphia sounds awful. I've heard multiple accounts from people describing the sheer joy and relief they felt when they started living as the gender they identified as, and I think perhaps it was somewhat similar to the relief and sense of "rightness" I felt when I realised I was asexual and that there was really nothing wrong with me after all. You'd have to be a right heartless bastard to deny someone that, and especially when it doesn't affect you in any way shape or form.

I've never understood the "hate" of any group of people. However, you must admit there are some very hateful extremists, that, if you don't necessarily agee with their lifestyle, will vilify you and try to "finish" you. I love people, but I don't always agree with their lifestyle. But then, it's none of my business. But I've had a couple of people who have asked me how and what I think. And when I've answered, they went ballistic because I don't agree with their lifestyle. That doesn't mean I hate the people - I don't hate anyone. It's not my business how they live their life and it's not their business how I choose to live mine.

I think it's a fear factor (along with racism and misogyny). The white, southern, evangelicals cannot stand the thought of things changing and that they aren't in control of everything. It's none of my business what/who someone is. They're just a friend, boss, co-worker, etc. The groups these people are so frantically afraid of are changing things, as well as everyday Americans, and they can't handle it

The things shown in the media online are an issue for a lot of groups and communities. The media just LOVES crazy/negative stories and people, so those will always stand out on the internet. The crazier the story, the more people will be interested in it. Gives a lot of groups, like trans people, a bad reputation.

I have nothing against trans people, but am always a little nervous for people who say they want to change. I know for a fact that quite a few people pay so much for an operation and then realize they aren’t happy.

The woke culture is here and it is going to take too long for people to get educated. I was just reading about a Virginia teacher who was fired and then reinstated, the problem is he is refusing to teach his students about trans people, because he serves God first. It is a high profile story right now and is going to divide people greatly. People are going to get vile and cruel over this issue. I support the LGBTQ and I support the heterosexuals of this world.

Just the fact you want to switch from what you were born with is weird and abnormal. A lot of people with diseases and short comings like short legs or curved spines don't like what they were born with. But Those people have to live with it.

You are wrong, at least for the United States, Scandinavia, UK, most of western Europe and a lot of other places around the world. Where gender dysphoria is classified by the official medical organizations as a disorder, not an illness. Furthermore, although most trans people experience gender dysphoria, gender dysphoria is a disorder but being transgender is not.

I think far less people hate the LGBQT community, but are annoyed of how companies feel the need to check "diversity" boxes and force it down the customer's throat. With their whole inclusivity they ruin beloved franchises and get the fanbases angry (Marvel is a prime example). To be clearer: It's not diversity that ruins franchises but the focus on it that effects stories, characters, etc. negativley

But you cannot blame that or take it out on the LGBQT community because sleezy corporations have found a way once again to profit off the suffering of other people. As a part of the community I dont buy in to the whole pride month, I have pride 365 days of the year and I dont run and buy rainbows because some rich business man starts selling them in their shop window.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Billie Eilish. I don't know what it was that made people go "eeeew, BiLlIe EiLiSh" but come on. She's an interesting person and her music is genuinely good. I'm not one for forcing artists on people, I just don't get when a relatively innocuous musician gets that level of hate. And while I'm at it: Taylor Swift writing about relationships. Just about every artist in existence has either written about their relationships at least once, or usually write about love/relationships, either through experience or generalization. Why is it okay for people like Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, or Ariana Grande to write about their relationships without much uproar, but when Taylor Swift does it? Sheesh.

I have battled this notion for decades. I repeatedly hear how people will "knock out" someone who so much as cuts in line from them. Or how "I just tell people how it is" without the need for tact. The entire world feels it is admirable and correct to forget about kindness, that being a bully is strong. No, it is far more difficult to be kind and concede even in the face of adversity. If you were to get slapped on the face, and then offer your other cheek to be slapped as well, you are deemed a coward or a door mat or "you should stand up for yourself". I once was punched in the nose at a dance club because the guy who asked me to dance had a girlfriend there, I didn't know. I recounted this story to my friends, and told them I didn't punch her back...100% of them said that I should have hit her..I want to know why? What in the hell would that accomplish? I know who I am, I know I am strong and I know that compassion, tolerance and kindness is what makes me strong.

"nuclear waste is relatively easy to store"? We need ways to store it for 100 000 + years, before the radiation reaches safe levels. The human race has never stored anything that long. We don't even know how we will make people aware of the danger in the future, since no language will survive that long.

Most of what I see regarding dislike for funko pops is ire towards the producer of the entertainment for taking such a lazy option for merchandise instead of somehow "awarding" dedicated fans. 35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved The Last Jedi. And this isn't even that true. Objectively speaking it was a massive success that the vast majority of the audience and critics enjoyed. But the people that hate it seem to think they're the majority in the Star Wars fandom and act both like a smug majority and a defensive minority. It's a good blockbuster movie that has great actors, themes, cinematography, and effects. Sure it has some plot conveniences and physics bugs but for the love of the Force you'd think the people that point those out had never seen a movie with plot conveniences or physics bugs before or consider a completely tight plot or perfect adherence to space wizard logic to be the most important things in a movie." "It's become such a toxic thing because a lot of the people that hate it hate it with a radioactive passion that ruins Star Wars discussion for everyone else (8 hour video on how TLJ is a cinematic abomination, really?) That's not even getting in to the people that sent the actress that plays Rose death threats. Though I think every sane person that has an opinion on TLJ can agree that those people are insane children.

I'm not going to defend the state of the game at launch at all because it was absolutely horrible. But I've noticed the conversation has trended from "The game underneath is good but it's technically f**ked up" to "the game even when fixed is still just half a game". I know people were expecting a lot more RPG elements, but IMO the game when it works is a pretty good game and I feel like a lot of people just want to bag on that game that haven't even tried it. And I say that as someone who thinks The Witcher 3 is super overrated and wasn't expecting to even like CP2077.
