My quarantine project. Digital design, laser cut into 10 layers of plywood, stained brown. No name
"This is 10 separate 3mm thick pieces of plywood. All the depth you see are cuts in the individual sheets. No engraving. I use a 500mm x 700mm red and black Chinese laser and feed the material through the machine on the wider axis. So the finished piece is more like 695mm x 1500mm."
I'd put it on a tabletop with a glass topping. Never need a tablecloth or conversation piece after that.
I don’t have much art in my life but this inspires me and I would totally buy this. If he ever decides to sell artwork like this I will buy.
My COVID project. Yard and paint
"Not including the fence my total cost for yard and repainting was under $1,000... so not actually that much money for the difference it made"
The changes look very beautiful! I call shenanigans on this being a Covid-19 project for under a grand though.... House to the left has lost its flowers in the flower bed, the trees are trimmed well above a ladder height, two sidewalks were added, and as already noted, the neighbors on the right did a ton of updating as well in the same time frame.
The sidewalks are there; just covered over by the weeds/grass.
Load More Replies...What happened to the brick building in the BEFORE picture. 🤔
Load More Replies...even the lawn on the neighbors side with the cream color house has changed...?
Shut. UP!!!! That's fantastic! Now, can you come to Sydney and do mine?
That depends Anna. They might be able to manage Sydney, in Canada. But, if you mean Sydney, Australia, our borders are still closed! ;-P (But I agree with you, that the house is stunning!)
Load More Replies...My Covid-19 home project
Yes it's called savings, lines of credit, or maybe they are well to do! Just maybe :/
Load More Replies...I think the idea is DIY projects....this is a professionally fitted bathroom...very nice but kinda misses the point?
maybe he's a plumber and never got round to do his own house?
Load More Replies...But the old flooring was so beautiful! I don't like the cold grey color-scheme of the new one. The shower is probably very cool, though.
Where do they keep their soap? I hate minimalist designs that forget that people will actually be using spaces, not just looking at them.
Covid-19 DIY project
"I put a whole bunch of road base underneath it, about 600kg worth in the end, which will help with drainage. The longest part was getting the ground cleared and somewhat even."
But that's fake grass, right? Sorry, the setup is very pretty, but why not have at least something alive in the garden (except for the dog)? :-(
Lots of reasons why fake grass may be better. Number one, it does not make sense to have a whole bunch of garden equipment for such a tiny patch of lawn. 2) Where they live it may be hard to grow grass. Example, I live in Phoenix. It's really a waste of water to have grass.
Load More Replies...There are these amazing things you can buy called Plant pots 🤷
Load More Replies...Quarantine Project #2 : A Bunk Bed for My Son’s GLASSES
"I started thinking about making a shelf for my husbands glasses and tiny bunk beds popped in my head and I was like “Yes!”"
This is such a great idea! R.I.P to the pair of glasses my mum stood on (and obviously then broke) yesterday. No idea when the opticians will open again for me to get a new pair :(
If her vision has not changed a lot, they may be willing to make up a pair using the previous prescription. ? Surely worth asking?
Load More Replies...We don't have space for a dining table in our apartmant, so I have made a walnut lift-top table. (inspiration from Make Something YouTube channel)
"This is where I got the inspiration.
However, I have done it a bit differently, using cross-joints at the corners and sized it to match my previous table, as I've found that the right size. I did not use any plans since it's quite straight forward to cut it.
I tried to find the pivot locally, however, I could not find anything at a reasonable price here in Europe, so I ended up buying from China."
This is great for hiding all your random stuff. And the wood looks beautiful!
Love it! We have a coffee table that has a similar design, except only half the lid comes up to use as a desk or (in our case) dining table. And I'm betting we probably paid a lot more for it than this beautifully handcrafted one cost! Except that this handcrafted one looks better!!! Absolutely beautiful work!!!
Stores, transportation closed down and rather sudden orders to stay at home . . . I certainly didn't find myself with the hardware and materials to make anything. Gerry-rig stuff, sure, but not complete a project appropriately.
Craig is loving his quarantine cat castle. Especially now that it includes open patios at perfect heights for swatting at human heads
"I think just trial and error. Don’t cut out too many doorways (that compromises the structural integrity). Make sure it’s against a wall. Make sure it has a strong base- the bottom boxes on ours are extra sturdy. Edit: Maybe even try it on a corner for more wall support. You can thumb tack the upper boxes into the wall."
THIS !!! I could manage something like this. It looks so.... possible, unlike a lot of professional looking stuff I see. Thank you!
Load More Replies...This looks more real than all the others that look like they were done by people who actually do that type of work anyways.
How fun! I'd spray paint it. I can't stand things that look literally like trash. But he design is super cool! Makes me want to be a cat.
You have a lot of love for your cat or cats not sure but still it is a wonderful gift for your cat!
My quarantine project! I am a xray technologist by day and made a mascot for my department to add some fun during these stressful times!
"Pattern by Crafty Deb Designs."
I love your new mascot and I'm sure patients coming in will also appreciate it.
Before and after of my marathon of a backyard project
"The number of steps involved is insane. Digging trenches for irrigation, leveling the base layer of bricks, running a drainage line, backfilling the wall, laying landscape fabric over the top, planting, irritating, etc.)
When I started it seemed like something I could totally knock out in a few weekends, and then I learned that I am either a very slow worker, or there was WAYYYYYY more work to do things right than I anticipated."
WAYYYYYY more work if you want to do it right! You can always do a quick cosmetic job and it may look ok for a couple years, but if you want it to last, stay straight & level, no puddles or water damage, you have to do things right!
It takes time to do things RIGHT - and the outcome is FABULOUS !! WELL DONE :)
I applaud you because I know how much work went into this. Very nice!
I know the work that went into this! As an avid gardener, you must have built muscles doing this!
My covid project
"Honestly if I didn't have 5 weeks off and hired a painter it would of been another story. [It cost] probably around 2400 dollars with zero labor"
And now it's for sale? What's that little notice on a stick by the steps?
Made a miniature Simpsons ’polly pocket’ thing!
"I made if from Palight! It’s like a thin, dense foam"
Oh my god...I love this. I was one of those Polly Pocket (amongst many other things) collecting kids, still have them. I'm totally making this.
First quarantine project finished. {Pattern: Autumn mandala rainbow by NoussaCreation on Etsy}
"This is only my third cross stitch ever. I had to frog sections a few times because my count was off, but I still had fun. It had very little back stitching, and that's the only part I'm not happy with. My back stitching could really use some work."
This is stunning! I'm a cross-stitcher and know how much effort has gone into this. Well done. This is a big project for only your third project.
I have done cross stitching for decades and my advise is that 'imperfect' back stitching makes these projects more organic looking. It softens and enhances the design. Your project looks amazing. Be proud
Beautiful! And don’t worry about the “frogged” sections. Historically some crafters used to intentionally include a “mistake” in every piece because they believed nothing should be perfect.
My covid-19 project...
There was an old fiberglass insert before. I bought this as a distressed property, there was black mold in the basement. I removed all the drywall, insulation, electrical (because of rat damage), couple walls and had the black mold remediated long before lockdown.Used materials left over from other projects, so [the budget] is hard to tell, $3000 maybe?
Before photo looks like the place where Walter White hid the drug money
It's amazing! I'm glad you took before and after pictures. You have definitely earned bragging rights.
Great work and a great way to use your time given too you to complete your project, there are two things a lot of us don’t see about this trial we are going through and it’s that we can use this time as a way too improve Our lives with the time we have, and we can communicate with people we haven’t heard from in a long time, so great job!
First quarantine project complete. A plant holder for my girlfriend
"It actually has adjustable feet on the bottom for uneven surfaces. I didn’t want to add wheels since it would be holding ceramic pots."
VERY nice! i love it! i been looking at one that looks similar to this on amazon for $450!!
Second quarantine project, mountain shelves for my son's big boy room using simple pine board. Almost embarrassingly simply compared to the master pieces on this sub, but I'm proud of how it came out, especially the white cap
"1/4" ply for the front caps cut with a jig saw and then a cheap foam brush for painting the sides. Found it easiest to mark the distance down each side to paint after cutting out the ply caps and then use the foam brush to "push" the paint and make a crisp straight line with the end of the brush. Turned out better then when I tried to paint a straight line by hand while moving the brush side to side."
Not "embarrassing simple" to your son!!!! It probably means the world to him and that's what matters!!! They are absolutely beautiful!
Actually managed to finish one of many quarantine projects lol
"I did a stitch called a French knot it’s easy to do although takes up a lot of thread! The green used up 5 skiens of thread!! And this is a small hoop. Originally was going to do it on a bigger one then I realised I would keep having to order more and more thread until I could finish it!"
Walking through a bush like terminator in the T2. How in h*ll one can immediately recognize and remember the scene from small clue like this.
Load More Replies...I’ve been cross stitching for over 30 years and I still have trouble with French knots. Good job!
My covid project. Tons of free time and minimal experience
love the new walls & outdoor look, not a fan of the flooring. would look nicer with hardwood IMO
Need to add a step in front of the sliding doors. Otherwise looks awesome!
I think tiles are better in the long run than hardwood which constantly needs oiled or redone. With plants to soften the lines it'll be lovely.
You added a beautiful room to your home. Outdoor rug, furniture and you have a lanai. Even outdoor drapes depending on the weather.
Our quarantine project was screening in and decorating the back porch. Having this to look forward to gets me through my insane work days!
A patio designed to your liking is the best thing for peace and tranquility. So nice. I would love to learn how to screen in a porch myself.
Zero waste quarantine project: I made a baby doll for my daughter out of clothing scraps, remnants, and thrifted yarn. Stuffing is an old cotton apron I shredded
"I literally just sat and snipped tiny pieces of apron apart with fabric scissors, it was very tedious. It did come out kind of lumpy, it's hard to tell in the picture. I added some leftover yarn inside her body cavity to make that part a little more squishy."
I'm sure she will have a lot of fun with her new friend. Great job, mom!
Did you just make up your own pattern? It's perfect. I'll be wanting one for myself.
My Covid-19 and first ever woodworking project. Sofa armrest with integrated wireless charger and usb pass through
"My first ever woodworking project since school... integrated wireless charging and controller/remote holder. Usb passes through to a hub off the back of the sofa. I was fed up with trailing cables and not something stable to put a beer on in the evenings! Stained ebony and multiple coats of wax.
Designed in Microsoft word and made with basic tools.
Made a number of mistakes and lessons learnt, but did all this from my apartment lounge over the course of a week sawdust EVERYWHERE!!
I do have a number of photos that I took in making it that I can link to if anyone is interested."
Designed in Microsoft Word?!? Man, Wingdings has come a loooooong way!
I really like this. It's the kind of thing that makes life so much better. And everytime you sit down for a beer you'll feel a little bit proud of your creativity. I just looked at the images on Imgur. very clever thinking.
Well done! Super handy shelf you made. One safety concern: do those charging ports generate any heat against the fabric?
We completely reset our bedroom for our quarantine project
"The wall that the bed is on now has the entrance to the master bath along its left (in the picture) side, so the bed is centered along that wall, and it perfectly holds the queen-sized bed and nightstands. Having it against the other wall really under-utilized the space. Now we have a far bigger area of the room available, and the bed doesn’t feel like it’s floating in this massive, under-utilized space."
i love the blue but i would have wanted to keep the flowers!! i'd have to buy the flowers again and put it over the blue
I love the deep blue and the light on the left looks like the moon hanging out at night...Can my husband call you for tips? 😂🤣
I love the transformation and colour changes over time. It almost reflects the growth and changes of the couples relationship.
Love the color of the walls. And i agree with the previous comment. I would put some type of flowers back up, on top of the blue it would look SO pretty
And it kills the need by the eye to make the bed centered on the v point.
Oh!!!!! You moved your bed away from the window! Now what are your neighbours going to watch? Lol
Covid-19 Confinement Project : Triforce Penny Floor
"There was lots of planning into this; over a year actually. I just never knew when I would find the time to get this done. The confinement order here in Quebec gave me the time I needed to get it done."
Quebec! Where did you find pennies! Did you dig thought the dump to get to all the ones in Vacuum Bags!?! LOL
You can go to any bank and get pennies. I remember working as a teller and each teller had their own box for each coin. A box of pennies is $50.
Load More Replies...Geez, that had to cost a pretty pe... (I just can't bring myself to go through with it. 😃)
The only good thing to come from this pandemic is seeing people enjoy their lives and loved ones. (For the most part, I'm guessing for some it's been a nightmare). Having the time to finally make those pending project and enjoying your kiddos. (Again, for most lol)
This is stunning! I’ve been wanting to make a table top from pennies, using 3 levels of tarnish - brand new, somewhat circulated, and very tarnished - that when arranged properly look like a series of cubes that you see only three sides of. I’m not explaining it very well but it looks amazing! As you know, the various ‘colors’ of the pennies grouped ‘just so’ create dimension or patterns. I found the idea online several months ago and have been saving pennies ever since. Were you able to seal the pennies with something to stop further tarnishing so you don’t lose your pattern? Would any basic sealer do that?
The only bummer is that the pennies will eventually be the same color due to oxidation. Nice idea, though!
I got bored and decided to paint my room...
"It was my first time. Just search in YouTube “3D painting walls” there [are] a lot of designs!"
That really changes the room, much more interesting than the solid green.
My quarantine project
"[The structure] is probably pre-fab, it was here when we moved in and looked pretty crappy, but we painted it to freshen it up. I remember having something like this in my backyard growing up too. If I had to date it, it’s probably been here since the late 80s or early 90s"
That looks like a chill spot to hang out in at night, have a couple glasses of wine and enjoy the fresh air
My niece has something similar that her husband built, and she calls it her porchio.
Moved into a new apartment before quarantine started, gave us some time to upgrade our side yard! We built all the planters ourselves and are really excited to try gardening for the first time
"We got [artificial lawn] from Home Depot. It's one that's formulated for pets. We got a cheaper one first and didn't like how it looked so lifeless and fake, this one was a little under $200 but we love it. Comfy and looks lush!"
Dont water your herbs by spraying them from above. Its like you would get splashed with cold water on a steaming hot day. Water the earth and do it in the morning becaue if you water in the evening theres more chance to spread fungi.
They didn't post here. This site aggregates from social media so you can see all the cool stuff without having to put up with the dumpster fire that is social media.
Load More Replies...Because: a] labor cost, money cost and time cost to remove concrete tiles b] owner may not agree to remove these concrete tiles
Load More Replies...It's their first time, I think it looks nice. Since they're renting they can't go whole-hog with real grass/turf.
Load More Replies...Front yard COVID-19 project, before and after
"Some pictures of the project and everything that was completed.
These are all my first landscaping projects and I am very happy with the imperfections in them. I purchased a saw, screw gun, proper digging shovel, etc. for these projects. Please let me know if there is something I can do to improve anything.
Need to finish up the porch but it has been raining the past few days. With some leftover wood, I also created two trellis for the flowering vines in my garden (one by my mailbox and one in picture one at the very right). I need to put those in today, will post pictures of those tonight."
Not crazy about the wood. It degrades over time. Detracts from the streamline look of the house.
the after seems kind of unfinished with the wood.. I feel like the before was good though. just my opinion.
I like how it turned out! Maybe some medium tone wood stain would make it look even better.
Covid project- bathroom makeover. I did the painting and we hired out for the bathtub work
Finally someone honest about the fact they didn't do all the work. This one feels attainable for us non-billionares and the house owners still get the credit for making it happen! :-)
Quarantine project number ?? Been wanting to make this for years and finally had time. Mostly scrap ends left over from other projects. This is how I avoid actual adult responsibilities and keep my sanity
Link to the pattern used.
Ive crocheted three blankets during quarantine. A rainbow blanket with white trim, a yellow lavender and cerulean baby blanket, and a massive king size black grey and red for my boyfriend (:
Great work. I have made two scrap blankets since quarantine started. It is a wonderful stress reliever .
My quarantine project completed
"This took me roughly 20 hours"
I don't see any dinos, just two hobbit houses with round doors
First Quarantine Project
"I actually just cut around the edges very carefully with sharp embroidery scissors after finishing and put it in the frame!
Pattern: Head of a Young Boy from HipsterStitchInc on Etsy"
I work in health and though I am grateful to be gainfully employed and busy working I am a tiny bit jealous of not having the same time (and energy) to put into projects like these
Same. While not in healthcare my entire job can be done by laptop. I've gotten no extra time off. What's worse is that I use to travel a lot and my travel reimbursement made up 20% of my income which paid for my cars, insurance and other stuff. That's all gone now and I don't get to claim unemployment.
Load More Replies...My husband got a bunch of cheap solar panels and put them in our unused back yard. They power up UPS batteries and now our computer room/SIP office runs off of solar power! 98047372_1...db7f66.jpg
I live in California and I must say that I'm so very jealous of folks with such large yards. We have nothing but cement sliver of patios unless you are very wealthy. Great job all.
I work construction (mostly small remodels). This is why Home Depot and Lowe's has lines around the block. So much for self quarantine.
I was so proud about my 50 yo pipe wrench restoration and then I see this... these are fabulous!
A lot I'd tgese are really great, but how are people actually managing to get materials delivered and tradespeople to come during lockdown? And why are we celebrating plastic lawns?
Because of the totally fake house repainting (currently in number 2 spot) it made me doubt the legitimacy of most of the other projects. I'm just feeling very cynical.
I'm making a quilt throw out of old scarves that I have found over the last 3 decades. So far I have used silk, wool, cotton, polyester and poly blends. I'm not going to add inner padding, just backing with an old high thread count topsheet. Quilt-3-5e...261d1b.png
