Did you know that only 1-2% of the world has naturally red hair? How about that less than 1% of the world’s population has heterochromia, or two different colored eyes? Did you know that the odds of having identical twins is about 3 in 1,000?

Although there are over 8 billion people on the planet, there are still certain traits we can have that make us unique. So in honor of all of those quirks that make us special, Reddit users have recently been sharing what rare statistics they’re a part of. Enjoy reading through these reminders that we’re all individuals with varied experiences, and be sure to upvote the statistics you can’t believe people are actually part of!

34 People Who Are Part Of A Rare Statistic Share What Makes Them Special On a sour note, I have multiple sclerosis. On a sweet note, I'm one of the rare cases where daily treatments have seemed to almost make my brain lesions disapear in my scans now. They went from very large to barely there, and some have even completely gone away. I'll still always have the condition and will still always need to live life on the low and slow/chill so as not to bring on a relapse, but so far I count myself blessed given how things can be with this disease.

Honestly, I have *very * good night vision and it’s often a bit of a hassle. We humans definitely have built the modern world for a certain level of night vision and being too sensitive is really only a benefit when you are night hiking out in the woods or back country (which I love) But in day to day life I find most street lights and other driver’s lights to be painfully bright and distracting. I hate night lights with the passion of a thousand suns and need blindfolds to sleep. Or I’ll be in the kitchen after dark happily doing my thing, and when one of the other household members walks in and turns on the ceiling light without warning I’m momentarily blinded. Human variation is wild, when you think about it

IDK what the statistics are for myopic vision greater than -12, but that would be me. I had PRK which greatly improved my vision. I got away with no glasses for a few years, but as you know, if you're myopic, your vision just keeps getting worse your whole life. Still really glad I did it.

I had congenital cataracts and didn't find out about it until my 30s. I've already had cataract removal surgery. With that said, don't ever be afraid of cataract surgery if you need it. It caused me a bit of anxiety but it was the easiest thing I've ever done. Not even a little scary. It was actually relaxing. I felt like my eyes we're getting a soothing warm bath and I saw all these crazy looking lights.

Without glasses my vision is 20/300 but I can be corrected to 20/20. Until the past few years I've had good night vision (I'm 68). My cataracts have been "just starting" for about 30 years now. Both my parents had cataract surgery and I understand it's even easier now. If the cataracts proceed at the same rate I'll die of old age before I need surgery, LOL.

I'm 20/5 in my left eye, but essentially blind in my right due to a recent blood clot. It's a weird combo that makes it hard to see - great vision in 1 eye doesn't make up for the other. Still trying to adjust to it.

Ted Williams was the third greatest baseball hitter ever (not counting known steroid users like Barry Bonds). He was even unquestionably better than Joe DiMaggio, who was once so famous that Americans the world over became known by HIS first name (as in "Hey, Joe!" or G.I.Joe). What made him such a great hitter was his eyesight; he could see how the ball was spinning, and that meant he could predict the path of the flight of the ball. It's also why he left baseball for several years: he believed his talent as a bomber was too important for his nation, so he served in the Air Force (or Air Corps) in World War Two AND Korea. Having such great eyesight is to baseball what being 7 feet tall is to basketball: it doesn't guarantee you're any good, but it's a HUGE advantage.

20/20 vision is perfect. 20/10 is far sighted. Not by much so you might not really notice and it might even be better but technically it's not a better or worse scale as much as two poles where you want to be in between them both.

34 People Who Are Part Of A Rare Statistic Share What Makes Them Special I basically have no circadian rhythm. It’s called irregular sleep-wake phase and is mostly present in people who are blind or have brain damage. I have the sleep habits of a newborn baby - my life is a series of naps, and I sleep when I sleep and I’m awake when I’m awake and it has no connection to day or night. It also means I’m always tired. I’m also bipolar so the amount of sleep I manage to get in a day is inconsistent.

EDIT: I just remembered another one. I have duck feet that are caused by femoral retroversion (the angle of my femur and hip bones is off, which means my legs are rotated further out than normal), which is a pretty rare cause for duck feet. It also causes very bad flexibility issues in my ankles and hips.

My Dad is allergic to alcohol, found out when he was in the hospital with meningitis. This was back in the '50s, and because his fever was so high, the doctor recommended an alcohol rubdown to try to reduce his temperature. Dad quickly started puffing up and having difficulty breathing, so they immediately washed it off, but the doctor told him if he hadn't already been in a hospital, he might not have made it to one. ( This was long before EpiPens were a thing. )
