For many unknown, illogical and often plain dumb reasons, some employees have earned themselves a solid “you’re fired!” badge. In fact, there’s a whole corner of Reddit with a cheeky name “Bye, Bye Job” that’s dedicated to sharing “images or stories of people losing their job, a scholarship/admission, or another kind of opportunity due to their actions online or in person.”

This was in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. As 'woke' as everyone believes Oregon is, go 10 miles out of Portland in any direction and it's a racist, white utopia. In fact, it was ILLEGAL for black people to live here until the 1940's - when the state needed laborers because of the war - and it shows in the demographics, particularly in the rural areas. I've lived in the state for 5 years and haven't met a single 'native' Oregonian of any race who knew that fact (or that the we just 'cancelled' the existence of a dozen native tribes in the 1950's and '60's because we'd decimated their numbers to the point that we decided there weren't enough members left to 'really' be a tribe, anymore...then, of course, just took their treaty lands and reservations). Critical Race Theory is just another name for 'the truth'.
Not trying to sound rude with my other comment, but it does bother me when someone who just moved here claims to know more about the state than everyone they've met who has lived here their whole life. It reminds me of the time a few years ago when my new boss who just moved to Oregon and said in our first meeting "All I got to say is people in Oregon don't know how to drive in the rain" and the first thing any of us ever said to him was "We didn't have that problem 5 years ago." It was insulting especially since he moved up from the valley in California.

I honestly feel that many citizens of the developed world except their minority communities have not been perpetually victimized based on the color of their skin, their race, caste or religion and even the economic struggles they deal with, which in many cases are legitimately bad, are still no where near the suffering that children undergo every day in the developing world without complaining so the smallest of inconvenience sounds equivalent to a genocide to them.

I disagree with many of these people's views and opinions. But I am really not sure that having offensive opinions is a legitimate reason for someone to lose their job. I mean, it's one thing if you refuse to follow company policies, like refusing to wear a mask at a job where everyone is required to do it. But in many of these cases it seems like the person was doing fine on the job, yet something they said or did outside of work got them fired? That doesn't seem right to me. In the US, we are supposed to have certain protected freedoms. Like free speech, free association and assembly, freedom of belief, etc. Even the freedom to be stupid, stubborn, offensive, or just plain wrong. As long as you are not doing bodily harm to others or destroying property should your unpopular viewpoint be a cause for job termination? Especially in the cases where people are not even expressing their views at or during work, in some unrelated venue or in private.

And I understand that it seems off because it feels like people are being fired for something they didn't do at work. But there is other parties than the extreme view people. These folks don't work alone. So consider working with someone that finds whatever race/sexual orientation/etc that you happen to be inferior. Their views, whether loud and proud or quietly held, are harmful to at least some other people and, by nature, impede another's freedoms (including both freedom of and from speech). People don't treat that which they find to be inferior fairly. The extremist feels justified in oppression. So the business is acting to prevent that kind of behavior both towards its employees and its customers. And, TBH, the business can be sued for the behavior of these people.
