What’s social media all about? Keeping in touch with your family and friends, as well as making new connections, right? Well, it should be. But just like the internet, social media is a rusty double-edged sword laced with toxic goo—far from everything is as wholesome as the cat pictures you’ll find on Bored Panda.
Most people want to be loved, adored, and to be in the spotlight. In short, they want attention and adoration. Unfortunately, a sizeable chunk of humankind is prepared to do anything for that, morals, common sense, and decency be damned.
From acting plain idiotic to doing some downright immoral stuff that would make the local priest splash them with holy water, the people who are prepared to go to extreme lengths just for internet fame end up on the r/justforsocialmedia subreddit. Check out the best of the worst below, upvote the ones that impressed you with their awfulness the most, and share any similar stories in the comment section.
Bored Panda spoke about why some people tend to do pretty much anything for a splash of fame with redditor Blank-Cheque, one of the moderators at the 'Just For Social Media' subreddit. According to them, the internet is a contributing factor in hunting for attention. "I'd say a lot of these people would've done stupid stuff anyway, but the internet gives them extra incentive and lets them share it with others." Scroll down for their other insights.

Subreddit moderator Blank-Cheque said that the internet has opened up a lot of different avenues for shooting to fame and glory through social media. All because of the changes in technology and the commodification of attention. "Seems like there's more fame to go around now, so it's easier for people to become briefly famous. Not sure if there are more people doing it but certainly more are successful."
What's more, the moderator doesn't believe that the people featured on the subreddit are giving up their morals in exchange for attention. Rather, "they may not have had them in the first place."
The ‘Just For Social Media’ online community on Reddit has 97.5k members and, even though they enjoy poking fun at people who are prepared to do pretty much anything for a sackful of silver and their 15 minutes of fame, they have some strict guidelines, too. So no sharing personal information for one, no matter how much you think that person might deserve it.

We wonder why so many people are like this, but this is how society has been engineered in recent decades. Capitalism has been aggressively pushed, meaning they only want people to think of themselves (to destroy the feeling of community and therefore a collective voice). People are not encouraged to be educated, just to try to be like the s**t on MTV and reality shows. It's depressing that as a species, we've had about 6000 years to become civilised, but this is the point we are at.

I've had it with reading just how moronic and selfish people can become. The power of YouTube or Instagram to give relevance to the idiots by the following by other idiots just shows how isolated and and shallow people have become in the need to be noticed. All the lonely, ugly s**t perpetrated on those who are lacking so much in the way of that which should be celebrated and acknowledged. The "look at me, loon at!" familiar chant from those who arrive with a blank hard drive, unlimited memory and storage capacity get to this point by operator error. We create our monsters. I had to stop after the cat. Then I went and threw up. When does it stop. After storming the capitol? I'm sorry but it has been way too much, way too long. I was thinking about this. It is culturally damning that some people will gravitate to achieve notoriety and attention by doing something easily stupid or trite rather than achieving that same attention through something that traditionally requires patience and skill to craft. Eat a tide pod vs. developing art skills for years; throw a chair into traffic vs. learning how to compose music; take pictures of food vs. practicing serious cooking skills... Just my depressing 2 cents.

I've had it with reading just how moronic and selfish people can become. The power of YouTube or Instagram to give relevance to the idiots by the following by other idiots just shows how isolated and and shallow people have become in the need to be noticed. All the lonely, ugly s**t perpetrated on those who are lacking so much in the way of that which should be celebrated and acknowledged. The "look at me, loon at!" familiar chant from those who arrive with a blank hard drive, unlimited memory and storage capacity get to this point by operator error. We create our monsters. I had to stop after the cat. Then I went and threw up. When does it stop. After storming the capitol? I'm sorry but it has been way too much, way too long. And it gets worse with each each indignity we wait for someone else to speak up and handle. Stand for nothing. You will fall for anything. We all have our lines we don't cross. I'm not lokking the other say. I just need a break from ugly.

I was thinking about this. It is culturally damning that some people will gravitate to achieve notoriety and attention by doing something easily stupid or trite rather than achieving that same attention through something that traditionally requires patience and skill to craft. Eat a tide pod vs. developing art skills for years; throw a chair into traffic vs. learning how to compose music; take pictures of food vs. practicing serious cooking skills... Just my depressing 2 cents.

So many of these are simply disrespectful. And with all due respect, seem to be posted by younger people. As an older person, I have to wonder what was wrong with their parents that they instilled no social graces or sense of propriety in them. I'm not an old grump, but some of this stuff is just so over the top.

People are obsessed on how they look on social media that they go out and do stupid s**t for views . Not all but a lot put the public in danger whilst doing so. It’s a form of mental illness they all suffer from . It’s all aabout them and they don’t care about others or the fallout of their actions .
