According to Lynn, the author of ‘Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant,’ a positive aspect of a complaint is that you’re aware of the situation and trying to change the challenging circumstances. However, she argues, you have to be willing to take that to the next positive step.

The 40 hour work week was created back when the husband went out and earned a wage, and the wife stayed home doing the cooking, cleaning, shopping, child-rearing, appointment-making, etc. This allowed for relaxing weekends/vacations (although the wife still usually did cooking & childcare at the bare minimum during this "down time".) Now, both spouses often work outside the home, leaving precious little time for the cooking, cleaning, etc. and virtually no time to relax.

The medical field is going to see some real AI advancements in the next 10 yrs. Those convenient telemedicine appts you’ve enjoyed since COVID…can be done by computer and probably with higher accuracy. Triage will be automated with no human decision making. Symptoms, diagnosis, prescription, medical documentation, all by an artificial program. Consider, the reason the tools, housed items, shoes, everything we buy break and fall apart so quickly now is on purpose. So we will buy more! We have the ability and certainly the technology to build strong, solid, lasting equipment…. But companies purposely use materials they know have a shorter life expectancy…..so instead of me needing and buying a vacuum cleaner every 25 yrs, I buy one every 5 yrs. The machines now in use to build my vacuum cleaner were engineered by a computer program and transferred to machinery that requires no human assembly on the production lines. That’s why everything is now sent to us in parts that we put together on living room floor when after we purchased.

Plus, their presence is less agitating to the criminals so situations escalate less often. Load More Replies...When we were in COVID lockdown I discovered that when I was feeling trapped or stressed, instead of rushing off somewhere to shop or go to the movies or otherwise distract myself, I could simply go and sit in the garden and listen to the birds and watch the flowers nodding in the wind. It taught me a lesson I didn't even know I needed about the importance of taking some time to be still and quiet instead of insisting upon keeping yourself busy 24 hours a day.

Because it's treated like it is a crime. I was forced doxxed hours after coming back from a terrible respiratory infection and flu (this was long pre-covid), and berated and HR believed I was sick because I "couldn't handle the job". I literally called them at the hospital, barely able to speak and I sounded like I had emphysema. At the hospital. When I called they were begging me to try to come in. A week later, I wasn't completely feeling better but well enough to stick it out and the supervisors were complaining how my voice was sounding. They were explaining to me how I was sounding like I was oblivious at the same time purposely sounding like that and told me to stop. When I told them I had Bronchitis the jerk said "So? I had a cold and I don't sound like that. Now stop sounding hoarse." I could have taken his damn headset wires and wrap them around his neck and smash a monitor in his face. I had a lot of violent thoughts in that job.
Hopefully people have learned from covid that if you have a flu or any kind of communicable desease, you should stay the eff home. Going to work sick doesn't make you a hero, it makes you a villain called Super-Spreader
It's a double-edged sword: If you call in sick, employers act like it's a crime & other employees act like you're just pretending to be sick to get time off. If you come into work while you're sick, employers & other employees treat you like a monster who's brought the plague into the building. I got COVID in January & my employer sent a laptop home so I could work on reports WITHOUT asking me if I felt well enough to work, called me constantly to ask how I was progressing on the reports because THEY had a deadline, then expected me to come back ASAP whether I felt better or not. I work shift work, 12 hours a day, rotating nights/days and I have a 45 mile commute that takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on traffic. Makes for a 15 hour day including getting ready. No time to workout or do anything but get ready for work and get ready for bed. Because of coworkers being on quarantine we're shorthanded. I just worked 15 days straight and then had 2 days off. About to work another 15 days straight. Only working 40 hours a week sounds like a vacation. I'd have so much more free time. I could even work out everyday.
On that same note, why were they in high school. I mean clearly they had money. And after the 100 plus years, they had to have gotten that high school education. Were they just window shopping for forbidden foods?

I worked 80+ hr weeks as a server for a restaurant in Miami. Not because I wanted to but because management refused to hire new staff even tho we were really short staffed for months claiming that no one fits their “standards.” I remember telling my manager I don’t want to be scheduled 80 hrs Im tired and she said too bad we need you and kept scheduling me 6 days a week 15hrs a day.

My grand father had 10years after retirement, my uncle got 8, my MIL got 2, my neigboor is dying from her cancer when she should have retire next year. I guess it depends on the labour laws where you live what paid/unpaid breaks you're allotted. Some people, like my mom, enjoy getting ready because it's self-care time for them. Whereas I just need 10 minutes to brush my hair, brush my teeth, go to the washroom, wash my face, while waiting for the water to boil to make my instant coffee. We'd get monitored frequently and fill out form on how we're doing, if we're following instructions. Didn't think anyone would bother with me. Hoo boy. The 4 and a half months I was furloughed during the pandemic were the best despite having to take a 20% pay cut. Got to spend time with my family that I never would have done. I got to switch off completely from work. There was also a prolonged heatwave so I spent every day out in the garden sunbathing. So much that my psoriasis cleared up for a while. Mentally I felt better than ever.
I didn't know that sun exposure helped with psoriasis. I'm sure the lack of stress also helped to clear it up.

We are just becoming more and more aware of how much free time is worth and how much we are worth as humans, and the dynamics in families have changed - for example there's less women who stay at home than the generation before(and its awesome that women have more chances to work and build careers!!), back then it could make sense that men worked 40h/week, but now when both adults in a home works 40h the time for cleaning, laundry, errands, cooking and so on no longer exist. There's no longer one who takes care of the home and one who works, and both too often don't have time or are paid enough by their work to be comfortable.

It's helped a lot with my sensory issues and navigating the subtle nuances of neuro-typical interactions. I've met loads of interesting people, had a great(but ultimately stressful) career in veterinary medicine, and now I work in research. I go into the lab 1 day a week and work the rest from home entering data and writing up my findings. This is odd... mainly because I don't feel the same about my job. I mean, I totally sympathise with all the people who do. But I like my job! I get to be around animals and nature all day.
I'm the same, different job and environment but I love my job. I find it extremely rewarding and fulfilling.

Employers need to pay people their worth. People are literally giving their all, and what do they get in return? No even enough to survive. In essence, this makes work a form of slavery. Pay your employees enough to thrive, have pensions in place, healthcare, bonuses, if you want them to give their best.
Can we talk about time off? Paid leave? Vacation time? Sick time? Maternity leave? Mental health days? How about health insurance separate from our jobs that real people can afford, that covers your whole body including teeth and eyes.
Almost every developed nation offers that to its citizens, with one glaring exception. It does, however, require higher taxation levels and faith in your government bodies.

I'm proud of the fact that nothing burned down but no, I did not do a 100% perfect job. Then I got a new boss who is a reasonable chap so all good there. The Big Boss however has nitpicked every untrained and unsupported mistake I made and has refused any suggestion of monetary recognition until he gets " a warm and fuzzy feeling" about my work. Well I'm sorry didn't quite succeed in doing 3 people's work but f**k your warm and fuzzy feelings. I need to able to afford to put the lights on.
Pretty soon the ethical work/life balance will mean that even manufacturing jobs must be accommodated to work remotely, and no more than 1 day a week. Remote is fine for pencil pushers, but the VAST majority of work cannot be done in a basement office in your PJs.
I've recently had to learn to like, not do my job so fast. I took a tax season Job to save up money and it really took some practice in dragging out the day. Seriously, I didn't realize NOT going super fast is normal. Oh, but no worries, when I had to work overtime for the tax deadline, I totally did that and didn't dilly-dally.
I have my "dream" job. 100% remote, hardly working at all. Really good pay. But I struggle. I hate it. I don't know whats wrong, but I really struggle to do anything, but I don't want to return to an office either.
