While the world is chock full of amazing people who go out of their way to brighten someone else’s day with kindness, it’s also got quite a few bad apples who don’t care what happens to everyone else, so long as they get whatever they want. And some… some enjoy wrecking other people’s day just for a cheap, malicious laugh.

Literally. On local social media someone shared a link for raising money for the Ukrainian refugees. The first comment (TBF, this isn't typical for around here) was someone commenting on the number of homeless in the UK and shouldn't they be helped first. That previous weekend I had taken part in a charity event to raise money for a local homeless charity (documented on this local group) so I reshared the link, plus being supportive that of course our own homeless still needed help too, all humans in need deserve help. Guess how much they donated. I'll give you a clue. It ended with a 0. Oh, and it started with a 0 too.
It sucks how the people that want to help genuinely cannot afford to do much But just offering support through signing petitions, advocating for; support to be given. Resources to be shared etc is a way to help without making yourself financially worse.

I've noticed as well that many of the people who make a great show of helping refugees also don't want to help our own poor.
Honestly, the "poor" is a societal problem. One person or even a nonprofit is not enough to fix it AND the actual existence of those nonprofits enable the government to procrastinate about fixing the problem. My point is, lobby the government. You could try helping a poor family yourself meanwhile but without governmental action is not really gonna make a dent (of course that one family or that one homeless guy will be happier as a result. But the other thousands of tens of thousands won't, and it shouldn't be put on normal people when it's a systematic problem that put them there)

Like who? Every decent American is concerned about our own poor. Probably didn't see it on social media because I don't know we don't brag about doing the right thing. What you do when everyone is watching doesn't matter. It's what you do when no one sees that counts.
There are people dead against spending government funds to redress systemic issues that create poverty. And people who blame the poor for being poor: "Its your own fault for spending all your money on cigarettes. Its your own fault for not working hard enough at getting a better job, etc." And also the people who think the poor are a necessary evil to make capitalism work. According to them you have to have an underclass that works for peanuts to keep business costs down and society aspirational.

Wow i will admit that i really don't like helping people but i do help animals i wish for them i could do more. I'm 65 years old and i have seen a lot in my life. People are so rude and ignorant. People hurt animals out of fun for themselves. What about the animals? Who helps them? Who thinks of them? I'm sure there's people out there with that attitude but that's absolutely not me! I by no means make even close to enough money to make any kind of difference in this world. 99.9% of don't, but I will donate as much as I can I I'll feed people when I have the ability to. I understand why we help refugees, but I am definitely one that would rather take care of our own first.
It's sad, but so true - apart from the weird title "And They Also Call Themselves Pro-Life". In Scandinavia, at least, it's definitely not so. I don't have any numbers to back it up, but here usually pro-lifers would also be the first to help against poverty both at home and abroad. Both personally and politically. In Scandinavia you usually don't have this weird collusion of extreme right wing and evangelicalism.
It doesn't matter who needs help, if we can help anyone who needs it then we should. It's the right thing to do paying forward doesn't hurt we benefit too.
I'm all for helping anyone who needs it Even if I can't offer financial support I'll do my best through petitions. Advocating and supporting individuals I feed the homeless when I see them/ have the extra cash too But I always talk to them even if I can't financially help I still ensure they're aware of services that can provide shelter/ food etc
These are probably the same people who s**t on rich folks for indulging in their wealth, instead of giving back to the poor and helping the homeless. I.e. The absurd amount of comments on Jeff Bezos building a rocket ship instead of helping the people on earth. These types of people are mostly just "holier than thou" hypocrites, who only care about about these issues when it makes them look good.
Our own poor are killing refugees because they 'are taking their jobs and opportunities' but business owners have started hiring refugees exclusively because they are more reliable (in literally all aspects). Now they're getting accused of using slave labour because refugees "are cheap". It never ends.

Except the almost poor, have been poor and managed to just get my head above water, and those who are so close to being there. The rich have no idea.
