I don't have kids. And while I can understand what parents go through when raising their children (I think), I can't really relate to them. Unless I'm reading Chris Grady's comics.
For years, Grady has been drawing his experiences as a dad-of-two and sharing them through a project called Lunarbaboon. He started this endeavor to combat anxiety and depression, focusing on life-affirming aspects of everyday life. So it doesn't matter if a particular strip revolves around a not-so-pesky spider or teaching your son to respect women, Grady tries his best to infuse it with love and empathy. And it works.
Of course, a lot of inspiration comes from his family members too. For example, he said he's very lucky to be married to a smart, strong, and opinionated person who is constantly fighting against injustice, so a lot of what they talk about on a daily basis makes it into the comics as well.
But don't get the wrong idea, Grady keeps Lunarbaboon far, far away from toxic positivity, preserving genuine human emotions. I believe this sincerity is precisely what allows even childless folks like me to connect to the series.

I really wish my parents would follow the father in the comics lead when raising my brother. hes 8 and when he was 6 he picked a random girl in his class. ever since then , every day he writes a "loveletter" and gives it to her in school , sometimes with jewelery or toys he stole from my family . i hoped on her behalf that this would stop over lockdown, but my parents asked for her address so it can continue . AND HER PARENTS GAVE US THE ADDRESS. ive spoken to the girl before at my brothers 7th bday party, and she hates the constant barrage of letters . i know its stalkery , but my parents and her parents find it cute .
Maybe you could talk to your brother and explain why it's wrong? Or explain why it isn't cute to your parents?
Load More Replies...I love this! But would have loved a suggestion from the dad about how to let her know he likes her, and then if she doesn't, do the respect her and leave her alone thing.
I can see the logic in this. One more panel in the middle saying, "How do you know she doesn't like you? " and the boy replying, "I told her I like her like a girlfriend and she said she doesn't like me like a boyfriend" that way it's crystal clear. Still though, awesome message.
Load More Replies...The other thing is to treat her kindly without pushing it, and her opinion may change over time.
I wish my parents were like this - instead of “you’re asking for it,” “he can’t help it” or “take it as a compliment.” :(
"The comic is my outlet and the place I go to express how I am feeling," the artist told Bored Panda. "It’s not really a cure for anxiety and depression. There is none that I know of at this point in time, but it definitely helps channel some of that energy. Instead of letting my mind cycle over and over on negative thoughts I try and let it cycle on comic ideas."
After posting his comics on social media for a few months, Grady began getting messages from many people about how they connected to his stories and it gave him hope and strength as they went through their own dark times.
As Lunarbaboon's follower count began to grow, Grady decided to continue to spread positive messages on social justice, gender issues, xenophobia, and other important topics.
The artist thinks it is impossible not to be influenced by the world around you and says there is a lot of bad things happening in the world. But there is also a lot of good. So he tries to focus on the latter.
My youngest son always tells me he loves his mother more (but in the same cute way) and I always tell him that I don't mind, If I have to be second place she's an amazing person to follow.
This one made me think...and truly, many parents would stop boys from wearing girl costumers but not the other way around. Which is very sad, if you think about it.
Rest assured, many modern parents are more than fine with it.
Load More Replies...I was playing with my younger brother and sister last night and they really had no gender barriers. Good thing their dad was downstairs tho, they may have gotten yelled at. My sister had these two girls in flannels, dresses, and heels get married and my brother was ken, who he put in a dress, and had attended the wedding.
I love this artist. And this one too with a similar theme. 2014-08-01...53-png.jpg
Oh, I thought it was going to be about the rope of truth. I guess she uses swords, too.
Great dad! Let the imagination rule -- not old-fashioned stereotypes.
When developing his comics, Grady believes the best ideas are the ones that connect to something more universal. "Usually, I try to simplify something that happens to me by elongating language and try to tell it with as few words as possible. If I can do that and it makes sense then usually it will make for a good comic."
First of all, work smarter not harder, get a fork to release the vacuum seal. Second of al, equality is not the same as all things the same, it's getting the same opportunity and still make use of specific talents. Men do in general have more muscle power, there is nothing wrong with helping your spouse with using that great feature. Would you coach your husband jumping for something he can't reach? No. You either get if for him or get a ladder if you can't reach either. So you don't coach someone to open a pickle jar where it would clearly take more effort than if you pick up the jar yourself. I don't need your wise words, I need your physical strength (cuz I can't be bothered to grab a fork).
its not about needing someone else to complete the task for you, its about having someone there to support you when you start to doubt your own strength. everyone needs a cheerleader sometimes.
Load More Replies...Sorry, but I think this is creepy. 'I don't want affirmation or validation - I just want you to open the f*****g jar!'
The longer your warm hand holds the metal lid, the easier it gets to turn it. Sometimes, just pausing to ask for help is all the help you need.
Pretty sure my wife would knee me in the groin if this were how I responded to her request for help...
Just put in the cuse word song, OHH F**k S**T BI**H F****ING PIECE OF S**T
I wish I could do that in the city sometimes... But too bad people would just give me weird stares and report me to the police... XD
Boys, don't bring this shirt to us. Go to woods. We are independent, don't give a damn creatures
While Grady made a few comics about the pandemic, it looks like it hasn't become an important topic in your comics. However, the artist said this wasn't a conscious choice. "I have a bunch of comics that deal with the isolation we are all feeling, but I try to make them less specific to the moment we are living in and more general to the feelings we are feeling in this moment," he said.
Me too. I only have one cat but I love both cats and dogs equally

Don't just treat girls with respect when you're a boy or boys when you're a girl. Treat everyone with respect. I don't like what's suggested here that men need to treat women with respect. Or coach a woman to open a jar of pickles...
You don't like that it's suggested that men need to treat women with respect? Are you high?

According to Grady, the main character of the series is different from you and me in a few distinct ways. "Lunarbaboon has too many pubes. His body hair count is outrageous," Grady writes on his website. "When he eats he never really feels full. He poops 4 to 5 times a day and rarely smells his fingers after."
Depression sux. At least one day at a time is still moving forward. Kinda hard to remember those steps, the long years just seem now to have flown by. Time is weird when we live like that. But I'm still getting out of bed and I'm still alive, so small steps, huge leaps!

Load More Replies...There are species of house spider too, that have adapted over time to live in our dwellings and can't survive outdoors, I found that out recently. I let spiders stay, the ones where I live are small and harmless, and they keep flies and mosquitos away (I'm allergic to the latter)
And I'm feeling no remorse at ending the black widow behind my credenza and her massive egg sac that was days away from spewing more toxic little demons into my office.
Load More Replies...I have very small spiders that drop out of the ceiling beam in the spring and they bite. . You wouldn't think a tiny spider bite would hurt as much as they do.
"Lunarbaboon is very fast, enjoys foods wrapped inside a taco shell, and never drinks with a straw (even when a straw is required). He is hardly ever satisfied with anything. He pretends to be nice and like human people, but generally, he does not like most people. This makes Lunarbaboon feel bad about himself."
Aww, I'm so sorry. I hope someone else was there for you, or someone is there for you now. If not, know that there are lots of people on Bored Panda, including me, who would love to be there for you and listen.
Load More Replies...That's dubious. When I feel miserable, other people's happiness make me feel even worse because it reminds me that despite all my efforts I will never get it because of my disability and that I will die lonely and depressed because my religion forbids suicide.
Yes pls, we all need people like this out there, to counterbalance the "dark side of the force" lol. We could all make a niceness effort on May 4th :D
Now I just want to know what they are going to do. Any ideas?
Makes me miss my late husband a lot. We ALWAYS did fun things together at the drop of a hat!
If we are talking about making comics, or creating art, the biggest influence on Grady was his mom. "She is an art teacher and has always been incredibly supportive when it comes to me doing something with my (minimal) talent," the humble artist said in an interview."
Actually Photosythenthis. Not meaning to be rude, just wanted to let you know so you don't make the same mistake again.

This guy seems so positive, pure and sweet. I wish I meet somebody like him!
we should be kind to trees and nature, it took long time for the earth to be born, let not try to destroy it
IF the "make-wrong" is eliminated, change is easier. Instead of "you shouldn't," it is more empowering for ALL to say, "'Students is more respectful to everyone than boys and girls," or "You can say 'students' instead of boys and girls.
How about just good morning or is there going to be something wrong with that too?
Okay, this totally looks like when everybody is coming back to fight Thanos for the last time.
Load More Replies...I wish I had a group of gals to back me up everytime I got catcalled :(
But if we are talking about how Grady lives his day-to-day life, the biggest influence on the man is his wife Danielle. "I consider myself a very weak and feeble-minded person, she is the opposite. She helps me be a more well-rounded human being."
I like doormat man. Cheat, do whatever you want..he would be happy to lick your shoe
Nico, go troll somewhere else. If you're miserable and negative there's lots of places to go...try the dark web. You'll get lots of your kind there.
Load More Replies...Sometimes it only takes a little bit of work to make someone else's day. Learn from this!
My son joined the Army and was so glad I'd taught him to cook and do his own laundry, it saved him a fortune. My most important job as a mother is to teach kids not to need a mother.
He would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids and their dog.
Load More Replies...If you think about it, just randomly kissing a sleeping princess is kinda creepy
In the original he raped her and she only woke up when giving birth to his twins. 😖
Load More Replies...Exactly! When I watched these movies and read the books I thought it was super weird that this prince just kissed a stranger while she was sleeping. I also thought it was weird she was asleep for 100 years and then got married to this guy, making her like 100 years older than him. I have nothing against age differences, but 100 years?
Sometimes I wonder if the kiss was representative of CPR. Probably not, though
yeah! you're getting it! im proud of you!
Load More Replies...Growing up I loved fairy tales and never questioned the underlying content. Know better now.
And the princess never woke up.And,the rest of the castle slept for eternity too.
And the princess died because the spell kept her in a Coma for the rest of eternity...there are extenuating circumstances here people
This makes me feel better about keeping cool rocks and shells I find! They’re tiny to everyone else but they make me happy!
I named my negative voice Merton Binker. I often tell Merton to go back to his mom's basement where he belongs.
I don't think I've hit the like button that many times in 5 minutes before.
I wish everyone did this. I always sit alone by a tree like the child, but I want to. No one has ever offered to sit with me. I'm fine with that, but it's a bad habit to ignore lonely children.
I do this all the time. I love the changes in expressions. First the fear of the employee thinking they've done something to upset me & the realization that I'm saying they're awesome & finally the giant smile they get when it sinks in. Customer service is one of the hardest jobs on the planet, if you don't agree, you've never done it. Pleasing people is very hard, especially when 99% of the time all people do is complain, no matter what you do. I always go out of my way to compliment great customer service, and I ALWAYS speak up if an employee is being abused by a customer.
if all karens were replaced with this guy all the worlds problems would be solved
Once I was at starbucks drive thru and the person in front of us paid for us. We paid for the people behind us.
because I can... I want to do this just to see their faces change drastically
That's awful. In that sort of environment, they get abused all the time, and doing this just adds to the anxiety. Just tell them.
The comic isn't colored, but it's the woman on the left side of the table.

Load More Replies...I like that they are open enough that she can feel safe saying that and he will respect that need without being insecure or sensitive. Sometimes, you just feel vaguely sad and need to be alone and that's OK. You don't always have to fix things for your partner, and they don't always want what's wrong to be fixed.
I hated math for a very long time but then I had a teacher who was super understand and devoted. She understood that we for the most part hated math(It was a lower level math class) and she spent the time with student when ever she had time to give to help them understand better. Because of her I hate math little less.
I love math. It's been my thing my entire life. I want to help others who don't understand math learn it, and my Honor Society club requires members to tutor, so I do that.
I feel like I never get that moment. I freaking love these comics though, they do usually prompt me to stop and look at the bright side of things
I want the people with boats to win. military stuff is cool. I like WWII tanks. especially German ones. German WWII tanks are very cool.
I think they are cool too, but they also make me think of the holocaust.
