The only thing that rivals a cat's cuteness is its ability to climb and hide. I swear, some felines are determined to set paw on every surface of their house. Whether we're talking about a ceiling lamp or the ventilation system, the bravest furry explorers have their eyes on it.
We at Bored Panda decided to honor these adventures and give them the attention they deserve. So we compiled a list of photos that cat owners took the moment they realized James Cook and George Mallory have nothing on their pet. Scroll down and check them out!

Cats are naturally drawn to small, tight spaces such as baskets, boxes, and nooks — it's where the popular phrase "If I fits I sits" comes from.
"Being both predators and prey, enclosed spaces provide a place to hide and keep safe, and are perfect for ambushing unsuspecting prey," Lucy Hoile, a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CCAB) who specializes in these animals told Bored Panda.
"This is how my friend found the cat in the bathroom"

Trying to make their furballs comfortable, people (and businesses) began building them comfy indoor condos, towers, and entire castles where the critters can both take a nap and play around. "Enclosed cat houses help reduce stress and keep cats happy," Hoile explained.
The biggest and poshest of these "structures" can cost hundreds of dollars but a bigger price tag doesn't necessarily mean more purrs.
"They needn’t be expensive, many cats prefer a cardboard box over a conventional cat house. Provide the right size for your cat to fit snuggly inside, make sure it is easily accessible and there are enough to go around if there is more than one cat," Hoile said.
My cat got stuck today
My cat chased a squirel and got stuck 40ft up a huge, bushy tree. We finally found him after 5 days, cherry picker lifts were needed. Unfortunately, zero lessons have been learned and Carlos still chases squirrels (who taunt him, mercilessly, I may add 😂)
Seriously? All (healthy) cats are excellent climbers, it's the getting down that's the problem. That's why the whole "firemen rescue ANOTHER cat in a tree🙄" is such a clichéd stereotype.

"Kuro found a hiding spot from which to be adorable"
Congratulations! Your clean towels have now been re-stocked with the legally-required amount of cat hair
However, a tall and sturdy cat tree might save your home decor. "A cat's territory incorporates all three dimensions and if they can access the space up high (by any means possible), they will," Hoile added.
"Being up high means they can survey their territory from the safest point. Providing tall cat furniture will encourage them to do this appropriately instead of the scaling curtains and bookcases."
Even if your cat's claws cause damage, you can't really blame the animal for it. Their bodies are made to climb!
That kitty was having a blast, and became so happy that mom wanted to play too. That's one of my cat's favorite ways to play: through cloth. For example I put my hand under a blanket and move it around, and she excitedly hunts it above the blanket 😸

My sister's deaf cat sometimes gets inside the couch. Once she was so well hidden that even though we turned the couch upside down , we couldn'd find her. She was sleeping and dead as she is , could not hear us calling. My sister lost years of her life as she thought she slipped out and got lost!
Um...I think you meant to write "deaf". BTW, I love the story

There was that time when I was looking for my cat everywhere and could not find her! I'd checked all the wardrobes and cupboards, anything that could fit a mouse, the cat was nowhere to be found. She could not be outside as all the doors and windows were closed since the last time w'd seen her. After some time she showed herself. This happened a few times. Finally I found her hiding the same way - hidden in the back of the sofa, she was getting there trough a small hole at the bottom.
Mine routinely will wander under the couch if you have the foot rest up. N proceed to get stuck when you put it down not knowning he is under there n only finding out when he paws at it from the inside or baps your foot when you walk past....after 20+ times youd THINK hed learn not to go under but NOOOOooooo
You are lucky, my friend's ferret did this too and didn't make it out alive. It was so gruesome that they had to throw away the recliner bc they couldn't clean it out well enough.

I didn't even look inside until I had to clean it and it was a nasty surprise. Since then, luckily, she grew bigger so she can't get into my new couch.
I am Napoleon, The Cat Emperor. Now do my bidding and get me tuna. Lots and lots and lots of tuna!
That's what I like about cats. No matter what they get themselves into, they always act like they meant to do it.
Sure I have some hang-ups, but ah, could I get some help here!?
I had a cat do that - get into a dropped ceiling and wander around on the tiles. The thing is that the ceiling was very lightly hung - too lightly by a couple of amateurs. The cat fixed that, though. She brought the ceiling - well, about half of it - down onto the floor. That's how we discovered she'd been in the ceiling.
Helpful of her to bring the problem to your attention.

We used to have a colony of cats living under our porch. The family grew quickly. We eventually found homes for all and neutered the ones we kept.
I had a house cat named SQUIRREL that everyone thought was a boy, escape outside 1 day under my toddler nephews feet. (S)He was gone for 3 days and we searched everywhere until (S)He just showed back up 1 night screaming to be let in the front door. We were more careful after that, SQUIRREL started to get fat but not obese... We found out he was a she when she tore a hole in my box springs and gave birth to 9 kittens!😹
We had a cat that discovered he could fly across the floor under the bed by "running" on bottom of the bed. He loved playing under there. He'd slide from one side to the other, take a swipe and any available feet and shoot back to the other side.

I had a Russian Blue, Oliver, who liked to play spy cat. He got under the doormat like this, and traveled all over the house as in "don't mind me, just a doormat passing thru" I would always pretend to be surprised by spy cat.
My cat would hide under the covers of my and my dad’s beds. He’d sit down and hear ‘mrow?’ coming from the big lump. The blankets were often bunched up so that’s how we’d not notice
Where the heck did you find a doormat with feet? Been looking for one - can I make an offer?
"My cat climbed inside the bird feeder (2 meters tall) , because she saw bird flying there"
We had a lazy ragdoll years ago. She would sleep on the top of the bird table roof. The birds knew she was no threat and would still come to eat, even perching on her back before flying off. ;o)

I had one foster disappear and turned up not only in a cupboard, but BEHIND all the boxes of cereal. Also had one get into a file cabinet drawer that I had left open, another had gotten into a dresser drawer that I had left open. Sly little buggers, the lot of them. I'm 70 now and don't have the strength to foster any more, but did have 286 through my home during the thirty years I did volunteer.
One of our cats did this. We actually had to use Velcro strips to hold the vents in place but still be able to remove them if needed.
My Zeus did this (only in the bathroom though), after which my Stormy would follow him. Being a Savannah mix, velcro didn't stop him. Hence the brick that was eventually painted to look less..ugly.

We used clear plastic storm door / window screen clips to make our vents difficult for cats to open.
Our Siamese family - Mum and two daughters - discovered they could in between the joists of the first floor of the house. That was fun.
And this is the exact reason why we had to actually screw the vent covers to the floor.
My cat got stuck in the wall on Christmas day.
The basement kitchenette ceiling was left open when it was built a few months ago so he climbed onto the cupboards and into the ceiling before falling into the wall.
This was at my mom's house and he was stuck for about 2 hours while we tried to figure out his exact location and cut a hole to release him. He is perfectly fine and even tried to go back in the hole!
I was once doing some work on our house and had to enter the crawl space below the floor. Each time I came out checked for the cat and closed the trapdoor. When I'd finished however, no cat to be found, went back into the crawl space and found her in the furthest tightest parts. Shouted I'd found her, at which point she walked passed me and out, my wife telling me she was safe. Me on the other hand stuck, unable to turn or crawl back; had to call a friend to remove some floorboards to release me. Still trying to live this down after 20yrs.
When my husband and I were first married our first fur baby together was a rescue cat named Riot. So named because the trouble she got into was a "laugh riot" as my mother-in-law would say. We lived in an apartment that sat on the edge of a horse farm. Workers were repairing a water filter that was in the wall and left it open. Riot disappears and I freak out because she wasn't an outdoor kitty and I had been bringing groceries in and I thought she got out. My husband spent two hours searching the entire horse farm in a summer rain storm. He was not coming in until he found her. I'm making a flyer on the computer when I hear something in the wall. Riot pops her head out of the tiny hole the workers left open that I didn't think a cat could fit into. She yawns and jumps out onto my lap. My reaction? "You little sh*t."

"Cat hiding under a bed sheet"
Our cat loves changing the sheets so much, we have to lock her out of the bedroom. She's 16 pounds of pure muscle and will NOT move. Had a much smaller cat years ago that also loved this activity. He'd come out from under each sheet or blanket on his own to be ready for the next one, so he was fun to make the bed around. He also loved waiting for daddy to get out of the shower. My husband would put the towel over his head and shoulders, and Petey would jump up and it would look like he was drying my husband's hair when he'd move the towel from side to side. So cute, and every single shower for Petey's whole life, 18 years, until close to the end. We have a VHS tape somewhere that we can't watch now but do have a photo. RIP, buddy. Miss you so much still all these years later.
Cats just love to help change the bedsheets! Hiding under the fitted bottom sheet, chasing the moving fabric, so much fun!
I have to be careful when I'm putting things in the attic so my cat doesn't follow me up the ladder.
"Spent 10 minutes looking for my cat before I went to bed, found him asleep in a wok on top of the freezer"
Yep, child proof locks work great. We lived in a mobile home early in our marriage. The doors had a two-three inch gap underneath for airflow. When we got our first cat, Alex, my husband didn't want him in our bed, so closed him outside the room. Alex just reached under the door and twanged the doorstop. A rolled up towel or a pillow did nothing to stop it. My husband said that if he does it one more time, he'd rip the doorstop off. Well, no more doorstop. Also, all of our cats over 37 years of marrige have slept with us, including Alex. Without the doorstop, he foud numerous other ways to make annoying, sleep depriving noise including meowing loudly, donking the kitchen cupboards, and twanging the doorstop in the other bathroom. RIP, smartypants. Miss you still.
My besy friend's cat opens windows and sliding doors. It's problematic.
You haven't lived until you have two or three very interested cats watching you and riding the waves from an old style waterbed. One time my husband got suddenly much heavier. I opened my eyes to see our 16 pound Maine C**n looking down at me from over his shoulder, looking like he was wondering what we were doing and could he play too. We laughed until we cried. RIP, JB. Miss you so much.
It is also a strange name for a cat…but I think especially for a car.

This is why you should always check your washer and dryer before using, if you are a cat parent!
Oh my god. This happened to one of our cats when she was a kitten. I got a call from my mom while I was at a sleepover, saying (while basically sobbing) that she’s killed the cat. She did NOT kill the cat, but she thought so. Apparently the dryer had been on for five minutes and she heard the cat meowing. She was dragging her hind legs on the floor and my mom thought she had… uh… cooked her.
I always check my washer and dryer before filling and setting. You never know where these pesky little pussies can be hiding.

"After 15 minutes of searching I found my cat"
We couldn't figure out how our cat was getting outside. that was until we saw him flick open the LOCKED CAT FLAP and scoot out. Cheeky beggar.
My neighbor and I were chatting in the hallway next to the front door. The guest bathroom door was on my right. My neighbor started grinning and pointed down to the bottom of the bathroom door where there was a paw, upside down, swooping at the air. I knelt down and poked the center of the paw. She stopped for a second. I poked it again and she meowed like "OMG! I found something!!"
So, yeah, thought no way my adult cat would fit in this one spot. Yes, she can. How, I don't know, but she sort of liquified herself to get out. She shouldn't be able to fit there, but she did. And now she knows she can, she'll go back over and over and over and over....
If a cat owns you you have entertainment, love, warmth, purrs for the rest of their lives - may be even yours!
Once, one of my cats got stuck behind the washing machine. We’ve also found our cat in the dryer, sleeping on the warm laundry. We have also found him on top of shelf near the ceiling, after he climbed onto a counter, then the fridge, then the shelf.
There are so many cat-permeable buildings. Also: people need to stop doing construction or remodeling projects with cats loose in their houses. And stop leaving plastic bags available to your pets.
My neighbors cat loved the hugely gigantic plastic bags you get in the home decor stores. She would hide underneath them in the middle of the living room floor waiting for someone to walk by so she could swipe a paw at someone's foot. She was never left unsupervised with them and she knew better than to climb into them. The fact they made a crinkly rustling sound was a plus for her. And since home improvement projects can take weeks...it's not fair to keep a cat cooped up in a tiny room or the bathroom for that long. Cats will get into spaces they don't belong. Most of the time they can get themselves out or you can get them out without having to call emergency services. But emergency services will come and help rescue the cat if necessary.

And we all know that he did it ON PURPOSE... just because.

She climbed to the top and then either dropped or fell down to the floor. I had to have my SIL come over and saw a hole into my solid wood bookcase to be able to get her out. It turned into a favorite hiding place for the newly acquired fosters that I've had to block it off to prevent them from going back there again. Goobers.
