Sometimes, Maggie said, she’s asked to incorporate details that carry special meaning just for the newlyweds. For example, “One bride asked me to include a wild boar in the design as a surprise homage to the groom's family crest!”
The cake designer said that usually, she begins working on sugar flowers and decorative elements many months in advance, and the cake decoration takes place on Friday night before a Saturday wedding. “I am putting on final touches right up until the moment that I leave the venue. I love that the sugar flowers last forever.”
Moreover, “many couples choose to display their sugar flowers under a cloche as a beautiful memento of their wedding,” Maggie told us.

Loved this... until I saw 50 Shades of Gray. Yuck. Not what I'd want representing my wedding. Hopefully it's a joke?
Maggie also said that she prefers “loose, organic floral arrangements and soft, textile-inspired design elements.” These days, she has noticed that couples are more likely to embrace the beauty of visual movement instead of the rigid symmetry typical to more old-fashioned cake designs.

Many of you probably never saw the old 1930s film "The great Ziegfeld", but there's a wedding cake musical number with alot of people on a huge wedding cake singing, and the spiral shaped top part of this cake is shaped almost exactly like the cake in that number which has a spiral staircase going up around it as the shape of that wedding cake

In an attempt at impressing everyone they forgot class & the entire point of the wedding. Maybe I’m wrong on my assessment of the couple, but it feels very Jersey Shore Bridezilla-ish. As a baker myself I would be tempted to take it on just for the challenge... but with my name also attached I would decline. I wouldn’t want to work with this caliber of client more than once. It’s just obnoxious. Sorry, but no. I like all the others better.

Gorgeous, & a lot of work, yes. It just makes me feel like they’re a little self important & Bridezilla-ish. It’s just too obnoxious to be classy. All for show. Maybe I’ve judged them wrongly, but it’s all too Jersey Shore cringy. - As a baker myself I’m impressed & it would be fun, but delivery & assembly would every level of complicated.

It's not glow in the dark, it's a white cake that they project onto. The chefs at Le Cordon Bleu recreated this icon in 2017 to commemorate the70th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. OMG - Google it! Somebody broke into the museum where a replica of the cake was kept, basically turned it upside down and doused it with red paint.

These are really beautiful, but I wonder how they taste... looks lak half of these are covered in like a solid 2 pounds of fondant lol

You'd probably have to remove some of the icing and/or fondant.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't invite my current pop culture obsession into a ceremony that's meant to last the rest of my life. A film series or video game theme seems really appropriate for a birthday party that's about a snapshot of your age, but it would just feel weird to be looking through old wedding pictures in the future and explaining that these are all settings and characters from some cartoon you watched 30 years ago.Incredible cake work on everything here, though!

But it depends on the couple. Perhaps they bonded over that particular theme, then looking at pictures in the future would be a wonderful memory. If it represents the couple and what they love, I see no problem.

Some of the cakes that look like $$$$$ make me think of the newlyweds who handed out food to the poor or donated the money for reception food to food banks.

These are not wedding cakes.... these are works of art. Theres no way i would ever want to cut any of them, let alone eat them

Usually, I get bored with these long lists of things and stop looking because there's a marked drop off in quality as the list goes on. Not here, these are all stunning.

These cakes are beautiful. Lots of time anc effort. And money. I hope that the vows spoken are seriously ready to devote the time and energy required to get through a lifetime. Weddings have little to do with why we have them. I'm all for a great party. The exorbitant prices associated with all things bridal are insane. I just can't imagine forking out $18-20k for a wedding gown. All these Cinderella's who wake up the next day and realize they have nothing to plan or arrange or do like they had for the past year or more. And a year later they can't stand each other. Then there's the opposite, me, who never got married because of my fear of failing at it. Got asked, but then lay in my bed looking just like Billy Crystal did when he finally slept with Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally". So let's all just eat the cake anyway. Dressed up, dressed down, married or not. Their artistry can not be denied.

Don’t understand why you’re getting downvoted. I totally know what you mean. I know several people who were more concerned with having a huge fancy wedding and expensive dress than they were with their actual marriage and spouse. Regardless these cakes are beautiful works of art and should be celebrated for that reason.
