“Depression Chicken”: I Created These 22 One-Panel Comics About My Depression, Anxiety And Being Single (New Pics)
Hey, my name is Adam and for the past two years, I've been drawing comics about my depression, anxiety and being single. Meet my alter ego: Depression Chicken, a dark soul in a fluffy yellow body.
Through my comics, I want to tell funny little stories and deal with my troubles and worries. It makes me happy when people identify with my stories and that sometimes I can make them laugh. Through the reactions of my community, I have the feeling that I am not alone in how I feel.

Is Your Stomach Flat?
Is that… a fish bird? A bird fish? It’s a bish. No, that’s not right. A fird?
I actually call him Birdfish 🐟🥰
Load More Replies...I work as a social media manager and I'm really lucky to like my job! I also take advantage of some experiences to post my comics on social media. After work I like to build LEGO (I think it's a very meditative and creative activity that helps me forget my worries), I love going to the cinema and I like to read books (currently I'm reading Fire and Blood, I really enjoy it). Comics, however, are currently a hobby that I like the most and that consumes most of my free time.
My Trauma Or My Favorite Color?
For me it’s: Polite answer or shįt long answer that is probably pg-13
Load More Replies...As someone with ADHD, I would probably go into both. And then my social anxiety would make me crawl up and die.
Fun Fact
I wake up an hour early when nobody is awake to enjoy the peace and nothingness before anxiety kicks in.
When I create my content, I often take inspiration from Instagram reels, but I prefer to stick to my original ideas. In this article I show you one of my favourite comics with Chicken and Birdfish on the beach (are you curious? Look below!). Birdfish is also one of my favourite protagonists - he is Chicken's best friend who lovingly (but also sometimes harshly) accompanies him.
Interval Training
My turtle escaped this morning, and I had to chase it down the street. That's enough exercise for the year!
Hahaha hilarious! 😂 It would make a very funny Chicken comic! 😂

Normally I draw one-panel comics and create small animations, but someday I would like to write a graphic novel about me and Chicken, where I describe my experiences about my mental health in more detail. From time to time I also dare to try some more "serious" drawings apart from cartoons. I also know that I'm not a professional, but the comics I do now are super fun! I started on paper with watercolours and now I draw my comics on my tablet. It's a real game changer that I would recommend to anyone who wants to start trying their hand at being a cartoonist themselves. You don't have to be great at drawing - the most important thing is that you entertain your communities with entertaining stories!

It's Yours
After all, I'm not a pro either. But I hope you still like my content. I have already received overwhelming feedback from my community on Instagram. I am most happy when I get messages and comments from my followers telling me that I made them laugh when they are having a bad day. Many also write to me that they can identify with my stories. That is very valuable feedback that makes me very happy, because then I know that I am not alone.

Neurodiverse
Yeah, pretty much. But neurodivergent is easier to explain.
This is so true! I wish more people could accept that we are all just screwed up instead of always looking for a "neurodivergent" explanation. Like if you don't get that diagnosis it somehow invalidates your experiences. No, we're all struggling. Your struggles are real. Even if you don't get the latest diagnosis. Diagnoses come in trends I've noticed. Right before my residency it was multiple personality. Then it was bipolar. Now it's ADHD and neurodivergent. Whatever. We all just need help. And if viewing it from a particular angle helps you- God Bless You. But don't get too hung up on your diagnosis. These change over time. Just figure out what works to help you and go with that!
