This is why the Houston school district is making all the teachers at the lowest performing schools re-apply for their jobs. Need to weed out the flat-earther geography teachers and the creationist biology teachers.
When i was 21, i dated a girl from Boston who were attending the same french university as me. She told me that when she was 12 to 15yo, the history teacher of her school was originally hired as the baseball coach, but when the real history teacher died suddendly, he took the class to be sure the kids got their history lessons... He stayed in place for 3 years because it was cheaper for the school. Add the fact that the guy was a concentration camp denier, a flat earther and a huge fan of the Mayflower story (he based his "lessons" mostly on it, because for him all world history could be explain with this part of History)... Erin was clear on the fact that except the few kids who took time to learn history on their own, all kids failed in history when a real teacher was hired.

The world is flat, but only because we can't see the curve of the earth between 2 cities that are 30 minutes away from each other. Otherwise it's a round egg shaped ball filled with minerals and chemicals that allow us to live in a vacuum that would otherwise kill us all.
Only the crazies are willing to put up with the kids today. Zero respect, accountability and the parents are even worse. We need to worry less about gender ideology and focus on education/ learning (not memorized propaganda) and building morals and social constructs while providing a safe/secure learning environment

As someone born and raised in the USA, this makes my heart hurt. We could be and do SO MUCH better if we'd just be willing to admit that: 1. Some of our systems are broken 2. Some of our systems were designed to elevate some and oppress others 3. Maybe a bunch of guys from 250 years ago who believed that it was ok to own people and would be mystified by a light switch MIGHT not have had all the answers for how things should be operating in 2023 4. Capitalism isn't the answer for everything 5. Any group's religious beliefs should NOT be the basis for laws and policies 6. Voters should be able to pick their elected officials. Elected officials should not be able to pick their voters. (End Gerrymandering) 7. Money isn't speech and corporations aren't people. 8. Loving your country means admitting its faults, working to correct them, and making it live up to its ideals; not just waving a flag or standing when a song is played.

How horrific. When Americans say how great their country is I just shake my head. They're so anti socialist and yet any of these things could happen to anyone in the blink of an eye. Thank god we have a health and social service to fall back on, it's far from perfect but I don't regret any of my taxes going to where it's needed.
