“Love thy neighbor” sounds lovely. On paper. But it’s an extremely hard idea to follow when your neighbors act like weirdos that can’t help but get up all in your business.
Drama between folks living next to one another can (and does) arise over pretty much anything and everything. Christmas lights that are up too early. Tomato plants that some confuse with pot plants. And who can forget the classics like getting angry that your neighbors don’t mow their lawn as often as you do?
The ‘Best of Nextdoor’ Twitter page does what it says on the tin and collects the most off-the-hook examples of neighborhood weirdness from the ‘Nextdoor’ app that’s meant to be a place for neighborly concerns, updates, and complaints. For the founder of ‘Best of Nextdoor,’ the project isn’t about the cash—it’s about the laughs. Or rather, sharing them with as many people as she can. She greatly enjoys making people’s day better and welcomes all of the positive feedback. So if you enjoyed her content, be sure to drop her a line and say ‘hi.’
Last year, Jenn would get around 50 submissions to look through each day and would narrow those down to the very best. Her rule of thumb is to look for peculiar stories that have funny and lighthearted elements to them. Anything that borders too much on the gritty side of realism is out of the question.

To me that is actually a lot. Don’t see many Aussie flags at private residences/businesses. They are mainly at government buildings like schools, council offices, universities etc. They come out of the woodwork for Australia day though.

I was a nerd at school and did actually study non-stop for 6 months for my finals. Let me tell you it‘s not healthy and if anyone does this, they need help. But sure, lady who probably never worked a day in her life, berate kids for daring to take a break. Especially at such a run-down place!

When neighbours start talking, bad things happen. Very bad things. This is why I refuse to be on any neighbourhood groups/chats/lists. As a matter of fact don't talk to me in person either. I am not your friend. I just happen to live near you. Please leave me alone.

I have a rule wherever I live. I NEVER get to know my neighbours. If something goes wrong such as a falling out, you have to spend the rest of your time avoiding them. Nope, polite smile and a nod is enough for me.

I got booted from next door b/c of a crazy woman who got mad b/c I said I don't eat at Chick Fil A and that I didn't think we needed yet another fast food place in town. She threatened to report every post I made (b/c I "wasn't letting people have their fun" by expressing an opinion apparently)and she did. They don't have any real admins so no one to look at her threat or why she kept reporting me for nothing. Just booted me out b/c I had a high rate of reports.

Most of what I see in Next door is "Suspicious car seen parked out side taking pictures, driver is male, dark skinned", with a reply "Blue Honda? He's my real estate agent". And lots of "Lost cat, last came home last week" along with "Coyote sighting, he must be finding food around here". (hint, keep your cat inside if you don't want it to become prey)

I signed up for Nextdoor. It’s almost entirely missing pet posts. I think they talk about other stuff but you have to subscribe to each topic, and I don’t give a shït about those people and their opinions on gardening and baking or whatever. But I will help them find their lost pets if I can.

What happened to all the BoredPandas with a sense of humor? Our Nextdoor group has many ridiculous posts that never fail to amuse. They invariably are greatly appreciated. Many of the ones here are meant to entertain but instead have elicited stunned commentary or continued the rude trend of using the perfectly normal name Karen as an epithet.

I just joined Next Door a month or so ago. About a week ago, someone reported that the DNR had killed Penny, a wild turkey that was known to hang out by our Burger King. Such an uproar. There are still posts about it. People put up a cross, flowers, candles and such as a memorial by the gas station. Fascinating stuff. I have only posted one thing on Next Door and it happened to be asking about that turkey (which is when I found he was generally called Penny). I haven't seen anything interesting on there before or since. Oh, except one where someone asked if people had noticed all the cats parking on American Blvd. She meant "cars", but it was such a hilarious typo with equally hilarious responses that I doubt I'll forget that particular thread for quite a while.

Funny - A woman from another part of the state joined my town's Patch page. There is very little communication between residents on the site. This woman starts complaining because several beaches were closed to everyone but town residents, due to COVID. Her accusations were nasty, saying town residents are the worst behaved, etc. The entire thread disappeared in a few days. It was tiny. For other reasons, the town government decided these beaches would be open to town residents only, 7 days a week, permanently. This is a small beach with very little parking. It makes sense to limit beach cowds. There are large beaches with lots of parking nearby. These are better equipped to support large crowds; there is an admission fee to pay life guards and the cost of maintaining the area. Nobody is denied beach access.

Nextdoor does not bring out the best in people. Whoever named and created the neighborhoods in Boston clearly doesn't live there. The names were especially a problem. My neighborhood had the same name as a small, apparently less desirable town. When I contributed to posts, people actually made fun of me, accusing me of not knowing where I belong. The site organizers said they couldn't fix it. Took two years to permanently get off their mailing list.
