If you’re asking friends to help you move, have everything packed and stacked and ready to be loaded before they show up. Pay them with food and drinks. You should be completely ready to go even if you hire company movers, because you pay more the longer it takes to get you moved.

Types Of Firewood
With EPA stoves moisture content should be 16-20%, Oak splits will take 2-4 years to season. I heat primarily with wood, I also try to keep 3 years ahead CSS so I always have a supply of seasoned wood. I burn different species depending on outdoor temperature so I don't waste high BTU wood when I just need to take the chill off. Never take someones word for it when buying firewood that they say is 'Seasoned". Moisture meters are cheap, check it yourself.
I was raised with a wood-burning stove for heat in the Big North. It burns? YAY!
This is very region-specific. We don't use any of these woods as firewood where I'm from...
Same here. Gum trees (eucalyptus), wattles (acacias), ti-tree and paperbarks.

Never never never build an indoor fire with all pine wood - that happened once when I was a child & luckily my mom knew to slowly sprinkle water on it to eventually put it out - we could see the wallpaper pattern behind the wood stove thru the stovepipe! Dad had to replace the stovepipe afterwards.
No matter what kind of wood, you only need to punch it a few times to make it drop!
If you're lucky enough to find a pine stump, it has oils in it that make for a great fire starter. I think it's called "fat wood" or something like that. However, do NOT burn pine in an indoor fireplace. They put of s**t tons of creosote which will collect in your chimney and then have good odds at starting a chimney fire. It's okay to burn pine outside but don't cook with it.
There is a handy poem for firewood: Beechwood fires are bright and clear If the logs are kept a year, Chestnut’s only good they say, If for logs ’tis laid away. Make a fire of Elder tree, Death within your house will be; But ash new or ash old, Is fit for a queen with crown of gold. Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright and do not last, it is by the Irish said Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. Elm wood burns like churchyard mould, E’en the very flames are cold But ash green or ash brown Is fit for a queen with golden crown Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke, Apple wood will scent your room Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter’s cold But ash wet or ash dry a king shall warm his slippers by.
This is somewhat true. My grandparents had a farm (small holding in today’s language) on the Shropshire hills. Softwood (pine, cedar etc) doesn’t grow up there. It’s mainly wood from the Wyre Forest which is Beech, Birch and oak, some Hazel. You started your fire with birch twigs and leaves. Then you made a nest above it of seasoned oak twigs. Then, finally large oak logs that had seasoned in the barn. Last of all, just before you went to bed, you’d put on a larger oak log that would smoulder all night. At Christmas we’d have a Yule log. That’s a large oak root that’s been kept since the last time a big tree fell, could be anything from 5yrs to 30yrs ago. It was always a root because that’s the densest wood. That would burn all Christmas from Christmas Eve until at least St Steven. No one EVER burned hazel wood. It was hugely unlucky to even have hazel in the house. Definitely a no! If you used hazel twigs for weaving you did it outside. No hazel in the house!
Teak is an exotic hardwood which is over-harvested. It really should be reserved for decorative veneers and marine use aboard boats. Definitely not for firewood.

This is the UK tax system. It is not quite accurate in that it doesn't show National Insurance payments, which is another form of tax, but it has a lower threshold and upper limit, meaning that the middle tax band is more like 33%. The 40% tax band starts after N.I. ends. There is also talk of a 50% band for really high earners. What annoys me is that stamp duty (a tax on house purchases) doesn't work the same way - if you go over the threshold, you pay a percentage on the total - which is really unfair for any properties valued close to the thresholds.

I am from Texas. Some years ago, about twenty, I was in California and I was going to cook supper. I decided to buy a couple of porterhouse steaks. So, I went to the butcher's. I asked the man behind the counter for a couple of porterhouses, about three pounds, total. He looked at me and aid "you're from Texas, right?" And I said "yes" and he said "thought so, we don't sell those in California, I have some nice round steak, no fat, but we tenderize it." I said "what steaks do you have?" And he said "honey, this is California, they eat Prime Rib, hamburger [less that 2% fat], round steak and some roasts. Mostly chicken and fish." I left.
