Here’s How 30 Well-Known Actors Looked In Their First And Latest Movie Roles
It's quite rare to see a wannabe actor starting their career with a big feature film role. With their first jobs in modeling, commercials, and small roles in TV series, most world-renowned actors had a long way to go until they became successful. We here at Bored Panda decided to take a trip down memory lane to see where world-renowned actors started their careers. We compared the actors' first movie role to their latest role to see not only how much they've changed through the years but also how far they've gone in their careers.

Jason Momoa: Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003) - Aquaman (2018)
Just a moment while I grab a kleenex... or several... Damn!! Bring in the shop towels!!
Alan Rickman: Die Hard (1988) — Eye In The Sky (2015)
And no one would have been a better Snape. Never even knew it was him in the first movie.
Load More Replies...Love him so much. The first movie I saw with him was Robin Hood and I liked him way more than Kevin Costner ;)
I forgot about Robin Hood! Thank you for reminding me! Sad to think of him in the same film as Costner!
Load More Replies...Robert Downey Jr.: Pound (1970) — Dolittle (2020)
Yes especially since it wasn't even his own fault.
Load More Replies...He prob started doing drugs around the time of the first pic. His father thought a good bonding experience would be to do drugs with his son. He gave him his first joint and drink before he was 10.
Load More Replies...I give him mad props that he was able to find a way to stay sober that works for him, which is great; truly. I think he's super hot in the recent photo, but him as a kid is so cute!
Robin Williams: Can I Do It 'Till I Need Glasses? (1977) — Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb (2014)
I can't think of a single actor whose work I love more or another I miss more. RIP Funny Man!!
I loved him in Night of the Museum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Teddy Roosevelt as well!
Meryl Streep: Julia (1977) — Little Women (2019)
Have you seen DEATH BECOMES HER? She's screaming hilarious!
Load More Replies...Very beautiful & graceful lady! I'm always captivated by the beauty of young Meryl!
Keanu Reeves: Youngblood (1986) — Always Be My Maybe (2019)
I've had a celebrity crush on Keanu since 1988. My sons discovered him in 'John Wick'. I go: Oh! He's my 30 year crush! Sons: No way. You're old! Gross! Just goes to show you Keanu's transcends time.
Same here Ruby. I had to prove to my 20 & 19yr olds that he was my crush first when I was a kid drooling over him in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure! They then replied, "Ew." They meant that for me, & then claimed he belonged to their generation now.
Load More Replies...Tom Hanks: A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood (2019) — He Knows You're Alone (1980)
I forgot he had really curly hair in his early days. He definitely seems to straighten it for a lot of roles... but if you have a good look at him out and about you can see he has the curls still, even though his hair is short.
Load More Replies...Tom Hanks is pretty awesome. I guess it really is true that our nose and ears continue growing all our lives.
Carrie Fisher: Shampoo (1975) - Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
That pic is from Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which was her last role. She was incredible and reminds me so much of my sister.
I don't know why you were downvoted because you're right, the pic is from the last jedi, which was her last movie
Load More Replies...Rene Russo: Major League (1989) — Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Jamie Lee Curtis: Halloween (1978) — Knives Out (2019)
She still rocks! Born of Hollywood royalty still up there with the best!
Liam Neeson: Pilgrim's Progress (1978) — Ordinary Love (2019)
To be fair the costume in the first picture isn’t helping.
Load More Replies...Leonardo Dicaprio: Critters 3 (1991) — Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood (2019)
It’s the young girlfriends, he probably feeds off their blood.
Load More Replies...Harrison Ford: A Time For Killing (1967) — Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
He looks good for being as old as Methuselah. I still love him though!
In the 2017 photo he looks exactly like my father-in-law. Have to ask him if he has some secrets to tell
Clint Eastwood: Francis In The Navy (1955) — The Mule (2018)
Does anyone else here remember Paint Your Wagon? I LOVED that as a kid (when I hated most musicals and still do). One reason was he had one of the most beautiful male singing voices I've ever heard. I showed it to a couple of people over the years, and their opinion of me was lowered due to my liking it. I thought it was very funny.
Funny, the Frances from the “young” picture was a talking mule, and his “old” picture is from a movie called The Mule. (I’ll leave quietly.)
Anthony Hopkins: The Lion In Winter (1968) — Now Is Everything (2019)
Was going to say the same thing. The man earned his title, use it.
Load More Replies...Mesmerising as a young man and still pretty sexy now. His intensity and talent is so appealing.
Can you think of any woman (other than Whoopi Goldberg) as unattractive as this guy who's as big? (Although I actually thought Whoopi was quite beautiful in a different way, though never pretty.) I mean, lots of men and women are happy with unattractive men in huge roles, as they should be, but how often does that happen with women (in movies or TV shows).
Unless she's playing an evil character, but they female evil characters are very, very rarely the main character (it's not that common with male characters, either). But ugly evil women can sometimes play a big role and are well known.
Load More Replies...One of my favorite movies—if you like sarcasm, see The Lion in Winter.
Natalie Portman: Léon: The Professional (1994) — Lucy In The Sky (2019)
Ryan Reynolds: Ordinary Magic(1993) - Free Guy (2020)
Watch the trailer for "Ordinary Magic". He plays a white boy who has been raised in India and has an Indian accent. It looks like a sincere and sweet movie, but feels so weird seeing that accent on him.
I looked up the trailer on youtube. It looks like a really interesting / philosophical storyline (which I love in movies). It also looks *very* 1990's.... but could be a cool addition to my movie-night. Thanks for the recommendation. Would never have known about it otherwise.
Load More Replies...Gillian Anderson: Class Of '96 (1993) - Sex Education (2020)
Wisdom lines and beauty bumps all work together to create a beauty much more than skin deep.
Daniel Radcliffe: The Tailor Of Panama (2001) - Guns Akimbo (2019)
Think he wishes that he didn’t do Harry Potter......now look at him &think ‘oh harry!’
Will Smith: Where The Day Takes You (1992) — Bad Boys For Life (2020)
Johnny Depp: A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) — Waiting For The Barbarians (2019)
I think he enjoys the bizarre roles. And he's damn good at it, too.
Load More Replies...The recent picture threw me right to Edward Scissorhands. Just the face.
Well yeah...that was the same face he uses for all his films0_o
Load More Replies...Scarlett Johansson: North (1994)-Jojo Rabbit(2019)
Kate Winslet: Heavenly Creatures (1994) — Wonder Wheel (2017)
Don't know why you were downvoted, she is voluptuous. It's great to see a female actor with natural curves and, of course, awesome talent.
Load More Replies...Robert De Niro: Three Rooms In Manhattan (1965) — The Irishman (2019)
That's funny, because in the Irishman his face is adjusted by cgi to look younger :)
...not in all scenes as the movie spans across several decades
Load More Replies...Hugh Jackman: Paperback Hero (1999) — Bad Education (2019)
This wasn't even his first role at all. He was in a tv shows in 94-96 and Erskineville Kings was released before this movie.
Similar is true for a number of the celebs here, however, as noted in the first paragraph, BP is explicitly comparing first and most recent -movie- roles only.
Load More Replies...You can't forget the greatest showman! That, (In my opinion) is his best movie. The message with Phillip and Anne is great, as well as the whole movie, I think.
Milla Jovovich: Two Moon Junction (1988) — The Rookies (2019)
Does anyone think she has a Joker kind of look in the right one? Don't get me wrong, she's attractive, but she could probably pull off a good Joker look
BOTOX after a certain point/age mainly raises the outer eyebrows giving that weird satanic look.
Load More Replies...Love her for so many reasons - independent, multi-lingual, multi-talented, and intelligent.
She's one badass woman on and off the screen. Beauty and brains.
Kathy Bates: Taking Off (1971) — Richard Jewell (2019)
I worked closely with her for a few years and she is a truly wonderful lady & an amazing actor.
Matthew Mcconaughey: Dazed And Confused (1993) — The Gentlemen (2020)
Like Paul Rudd, he seems like he's the same age now. I think they have a secret youth-serum. Maybe The Picture of Dorian Gray could've been a true story.
And the oh-so-creepy quote from Dazed and Confused : "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age." Like..... ewwwwww!!!!
Dustin Hoffman: The Tiger Makes Out (1967) — Into The Labyrinth (2019)
He's just not at all a good actor, I don't think. Never understood why he was considered as such. Even in Rain Man, when he did a lot of research into it, the character was more of a charicature. I guess The Graduate was so huge that people just loved him and didn't care he couldn't act. He was pretty good in Tootsie, though. (But I think many other actors would have done much better and not had that ridiculous voice affectation, which was very similar to his voice in Little Big Man.)
Reading about how he treated Meryl Streep during filming of Kramer vs Kramer put me off him immediately.
Nicole Kidman: Bush Christmas (1983) — Bombshell (2019)
Yeah her nose changed a lot, didn't realize she probably had it done until now. I liked her old nose.
Load More Replies...Geena Davis: Tootsie (1982) — Marjorie Prime (2017)
Doesn’t stop her choosing awful movies though.
Load More Replies...She's also a world-class athlete, having come 24th out of the 300 who were qualified for the Olympic tryouts for Archery.
Beautiful Mother of twins, married to a successful surgeon and STILL find times to provide us with entertainment. Talk about multitasking!
Just like her husband is a handsome father of twins, married to a successful actress / athlete, and STILL finds time to provide us with medical care!! Talk about multi-tasking!!
Load More Replies...Denzel Washington: Carbon Copy (1981) — The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Threre's change.... But it comes in the form of 'Wisdom Lines' and those are nothing to be ashamed of.
Helen Mirren: Herostratus (1967) — The Good Liar (2019)
I love that IF she's had ANY plastic surgery, it's subtle enough to be non-existent. The nose, eyes, lips, jawline etc ALL the same. Naturally aging beauty trumps the plastic pop tarts any day.
Christopher Walken: Me And My Brother (1969) — The Jesus Rolls (2019)
I saw a short he acted in from 1958, when he was a child, called "The Boy Who Saw Through". It's not a feature, so I suppose it doesn't count for this list. It's a weird little picture, but he's so angelic in it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8K79uZBgL4
Samuel L. Jackson: Together For Days (1973) — Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Why does he look so different? Besides the obvious aging effects... Nose job?
Dwayne Johnson: The Mummy Returns (2001) — Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
This is a test.... This is only a test... Apparently this is how BoredPanda weeds out the Robots that are trolling their site.
Load More Replies...Christian Bale: Mio, Mano Mio (1987) — Ford V Ferrari (2019)
That movie, Mio in the land of Faraway, is the weirdest production ever. It's a Soviet-Swedish-Norwegian film, starring both Christian Bale and fricking Christopher Lee (Saruman). The soundtrack was made by ABBA members and is basically an ABBA song. And get this: They recorded in Ukraine near Chernobyl when the incident happened and had to relocate! Christopher Lee apperently hated the time he spent with the production. "The food was uneatable and sanitation unspeakable" and he's not known to be a diva so you know it must have been bad 😂
Technically, Empire of the Sun was his first. It was released 12/25/1987 and Mio in the Land of Faraway was released on 05/1988
Mio was actually released in May of 1988. Empire of the Sun came out Christmas day 1987. So Empire of the Sun is technically his first movie.
Angelina Jolie: Lookin' To Get Out (1982) — Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (2019)
She's not really a 'supervillain' in Maleficent, she's kinda the anti-hero and misunderstood.
Load More Replies...Anne Hathaway: The Princess Diaries (2001) - Dark Waters (2019)
Makeup in the late 90s was matte and very heavy on the eyes and lips-- which kinda makes people look older. Then it got more natural and lighter which makes people look younger. Interestingly, that heavily made up look is kinda coming back, (at least in youtube tutorials etc) so I wonder if it will have the same effect.
Load More Replies...Anjelica Huston: A Walk With Love And Death (1969) - Waiting For Anya (2020)
Anjelica plays the evil queen/nature goddess in the mini Michael Jackson movie "Captain EO"!
Jessica Lange: King Kong (1976) — Wild Oats (2016)
Tom Hiddleston: The Life And Adventures Of Nicholas Nickleby (2001) — Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Jack Nicholson: The Cry Baby Killer (1958) — How Do You Know (2010)
I see his (and many others') cameos in so many of the 1950-60's black and white sitcoms. Surprising and almost like being let in on a big secret.
Cate Blanchett: Police Rescue(1994) — Where'd You Go, Bernadette (2019)
She was on heartland the year before. Dude do you Aussie research better.
Was Heartland a movie? No? Then it's not relevant as they explicitly stated they are only using movie roles.
Load More Replies...Liv Tyler: Silent Fall (1994) — Ad Astra (2019)
Jodie Foster: Napoleon And Samantha (1972) — Hotel Artemis (2018)
Bill Murray: Meatballs (1979) — Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
I love the pics chosen for this post!! Not only does it demonstrate Bill's physical beauty but also his comic beauty!!
wait... he's in Doubletap? I clearly haven't seen it, but (spoiler alert) he died in the first Zombieland.
It's a quick cameo in a credit scene set at the start of the outbreak. It is also hilarious.
Load More Replies...Benedict Cumberbatch: Fields Of Gold (2002) - 1917 (2019)
Couldn't they have got a photo for the left side that wasn't terribly blurry?
Joaquin Phoenix: Spacecamp (1986) — Joker (2019)
Wasn't he in some made for tv movie before space camp? Something about child predators? I know it wasn't a big movie or anything, buy I could've sworn that was his first movie role.
Jake Gyllenhaal: City Slickers (1991) - Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
I think Donny Darko is one of those movies you either love or hate. I personally love it but I can see why some people don't. Each to their own, nothing wrong with not enjoying something everyone else does.
Load More Replies...Jim Carrey: Rubberface (1981) — Dark Crimes (2016)
Uma Thurman: Kiss Daddy Goodnight (1987) — Down A Dark Hall (2018)
Jennifer Connelly: Once Upon A Time In America (1984)- Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Matt Damon: Mystic Pizza (1988)-Jay And Silent Bob Reboot (2019)
Wait, was he in Mystic pizza? I love that movie, I was probably so fixated on Julia and her lover interest ob2iqbze8m...4b8ecd.jpg
Macaulay Culkin: Rocket Gibraltar (1988) — Changeland (2019)
He looks more like he did as a child now than in the intervening years. He looks great now. Love seeing him looking healthy.
Chris Hemsworth: Star Trek (2009) - Men In Black: International (2019)
Are you serious he was on Home and Away before any of his movies. He was also on Neighbours and the saddle club.

Load More Replies...Martin Freeman: The Low Down (2000) - Ode To Joy (2019)
Jennifer Aniston: Camp Cucamonga (1990) - Murder Mystery (2019)
I love her in Murder Mystery, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Just Go With It and literally every other movie she's in! I have yet to see The Morning Show but that has Jen, Steve Carrell, and Reese Witherspoon in it so that HAS to be good!
Brad Pitt: The Dark Side Of The Sun (1988) — Ad Astra (2019)
Ryan Gosling: Frankenstein And Me (1996) — First Man (2018)
Charlize Theron: Children Of The Corn III (1995) — Bombshell (2019)
And that reverse panda under-eye makeup... though I feel like thats coming back.
Load More Replies...She's so beautiful it hurts to look at her sometimes! I secretly hope she's a b***h, though, because if she was nice, it would be too much to take.
Thank God she lost the eyebrow pencil!! Unfortunately it reproduced and found it's way into the hands of a generation or two that have chosen to abuse eyebrow pencils in obscenely grotesque ways.
Lisa Kudrow: Married To The Mob (1989)-Booksmart (2019)
I love that she ages with grace. Not that hard core plastic surgery like many others. She looks great
Monica Bellucci: Vita Coi Figli (1990)- Spider In The Web (2019)
Edward Norton: Primal Fear (1996)-Motherless Brooklyn (2019)
To this day, every time I hear his name I still think of Art Carney’s character on The Honeymooners. (Before you start hating, it’s just the name. I actually think he’s an excellent actor.)
Russell Crowe: Prisoners Of The Sun (1990) — True History Of The Kelly Gang (2019)
true, but this article is looking at his first movie role. :)
Load More Replies...Ben Kingsley: Fear Is The Key (1972) — Spider In The Web (2019)
I always wondered what he looked like with hair. He looks better without it.
Sandra Oh: Double Happiness (1994) — Meditation Park (2017)
Zoe Saldana: Center Stage (2000) — Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Penélope Cruz: Jamón, Jamón (1992) — Wasp Network (2019)
Christoph Waltz: Tristan And Isolde (1981) — Georgetown (2019)
Ah, Tristan and Isolde. Myths and legends are so very complicated. I took a lot of Latin so I was intrigued by the story and its inspiration of many others to follow it. Affairs are hard for me to stomach though.
Tom Holland: The Impossible (2012) — Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Salma Hayek: Mi Vida Loca (1993) — Like A Boss (2020)
I'm not sure I can appreciate her "Like a Boss" look as much as her natural Hispanic look. She looks almost plastic... Like she's trying too hard. **I realize it's a movie character and not her normal inclination.**
Fortunately, she looks more like her younger self than in this role. Really beautiful.
Daniel Day-Lewis: The Bounty (1984) — Phantom Thread (2017)
He was in Gandhi - 1982 small role but well done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8mfOyCySKg
A true method actor, down to his core. He actually becomes his characters. It’s amazing to read about.
Adam Sandler: Going Overboard (1989) — Uncut Gems (2019)
Mel Gibson: Summer City (1977) — The Professor And The Madman (2019)
Elizabeth Hurley: Rowing With The Wind (1988) — An Elephant's Journey (2017)
I wish they’d allow softer (less made up) faces in roles. Can still portray strength without heavily lined up eyes and bold shadows. I adore the left photo of her. Natural brows need to come back too. Healthy skin should be the goal, not “perfect/ideal.”
I dont know.. I think I support women doing what they think is best for themselves, whether it's makeup or no makeup. We just don't get to see that portrayed much in movies/tv.
Load More Replies...Yeah... I am questioning the accuracy that these are pics from their FIRST ROLES. Perhaps their first movies but not roles. I specifically recall a number of these people playing minor roles in 50-60's sitcoms, black & white to color. Long before they are credited here.
Load More Replies...Patricia Clarkson: The Untouchables (1987) — Sell By (2019)
Keira Knightley: Innocent Lies (1995) — The Aftermath (2019)
Terrible camera angle in the later photo. She's still young and stunning. I don't think that's her image from Young and Stunning. Mouth, eyes, nose, brows and chin are different.
Mila Kunis: Make A Wish, Molly (1995) - Breaking News In Yuba County (2020)
As hard as I try not to, I can't help but always see her as a teenager. Thus, the idea that she has been in the industry for 25 years is just impossible. Is somebody pulling my leg??
Regina Tylor: Clockers (1995) - The Good Fight (2017)
Al Pacino: Me, Natalie (1969) — The Irishman (2019)
Naomi Watts: Flirting (1991) — Luce (2019)
Renée Zellweger: Reality Bites (1994) — Judy (2019)
haha just saw this the other day for first time in years!! A 'Slacker' movie if there ever was one
I mean its not a great screenshot.. but yeah. The worst part is, she got some kind of plastic surgery a few years ago and instead of looking younger she just looks.... kinda weird. It's so sad. She had the cutest round face.
Load More Replies...Ashley Judd: Kuffs (1992) - A Dog's Way Home (2019)
BoredPanda missed the mark on a number of these. Perhaps they meant First MOVIE Role rather than First ROLE in general.
Load More Replies...Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Troll (1986) — Stars In Shorts: No Ordinary Love (2016)
Demi Moore: Choices (1981) — Corporate Animals (2019)
Jim Belushi: Thief (1981) — Wonder Wheel (2017)
Jared Leto: Cool And The Crazy (1994) — The Outsider (2018)
Margot Robbie: Vigilante (2008) - Birds Of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn ( 2020)
Tom Cruise: Endless Love (1981)-Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Kevin Spacey: Heartburn (1986) — Billionaire Boys Club (2018)

Not to mention that lots of actors and actresses undergo drastic physical changes purposefully for specific roles. Christian Bale is famous for this, but also Joaquin Phoenix lost a lot of weight for Joker. And then there are the Marvel and DC heroes....
